Best modulation apps?
Hello,
which apps do you prefer for modulation? Favourite flanger, phaser, chorus, tremolo etc. I am looking if there are any new (or old and so far overlooked) apps our there, which I should add to my collection.
So far, I am using FAC Chorus and PhaseThree by Audio Damage. I am interested in the Bleass Flanger and the Undulator by Eventide but also interested in which types of modulation you guys can‘t live without?

Creates subtle magic!
BLEASS Motion FX and Audio Damage Quatromod are two I've been using a bit lately.
WhatsApp do Thea do?
Huh?
BLEASS Motion FX

Audio Damage Quatro Mod

I often find what I need in iFX Rack. I got both the app and the 17-module bundle on sale, and it really is pretty nice. Includes two choruses, phaser, flanger, optical compressor, (a few) cab IRs, tons of reverb IRs (FantasyVerb), and other nice features. There's a bit of a learning curve because there is no documentation. I've pieced together some notes from various sources.
This doc shows all the modules (excluding the newest ones).
For tremelo I’ll say Bleass Dragonfly ❤️
Bleass fx are really nice. Dragonfly and motion fx come to mind.
Fac Phaser
All Eventide apps are sweet. Check out undulator, rotary mod.
Fac chorus is nice so your probably good there.
I just got Woodscaper today, and it's awesome! super deep and versatile.
I just looked in the App Store to see if I own Quatromod, and it wasn’t in the store.
Add my vote for Bleass Motion FX. I won a copy - and I’m using it way more than I thought I would !

QuatroMod is iPad only.
Lunar Lander can mostly be tried for free - IAP unlocks the last 30% of features - I think delay with modulation isn’t locked, nice sounding effect!
Edit: On a similar tip, Nembrini Delay3000 has modulation.
I'd have to say the Bleass modulation effects are great. And easy to use. Audio Damage do some pretty killer modulation as well. If you want something simple EG Classic FX is pretty nice as well.
Just noticed that QuatroMod is gone from the Swedish App Store...
It’s not in the UK store either
Ref QuatroMod, that’s weird. It’s still part of AD’s desktop lineup and is still listed in my old purchases but the link to the App Store results in a 404 (I'm in the UK too). I wonder if AD is even aware of the situation. I also noticed that the AD bundle is no longer available, and if memory serves right QuatroMod was part of the bundle at one point.
Same. I bought it, and used it more then I thought, lol.
I was going to mention the Au guitar apps that have lots of pedals and fx inside. Thu, ToneStack Pro, boas fx 2, etc..
Also tonebridge which is Au, you pick a popular song and you can use the main fx from a part of that track. It’s free.
Agreed.
I got Dragonfly and it’s now my goto for panning effects
except for the ones I put together in dRambo.
From subtle to full on, it’s just lovely.
I was put off by it for some reason, I’m going to give this one another go.
Thanks for the reminder.
And be sure to get the IAP. The larger plate is magical.
I tried it again on a track last night.
Still not convinced.
To each their own.
Agreed.
FAC Chorus. I was reluctant at first, bought it and it’s a blast. Even if it only had the starting preset and no knobs it’d still be worth it. Makes bass sound amazingly deep and lush.
+1 on BLEASS Dragonfly, it’s dynamic, creative and fun.
BLEASS Phaser or Nembrini phaser are nice.
I will add Tonestack Pro.
It has quite a selection of modulation effects.
When it comes to guitar hardware pedals, I dislike chorus, phaser, flanger, no matter if it's vintage recreation or a more modern take. I only can stand the Univibe kind of effect, I have an Earthquaker devices pedal for this.
On IOS I have chorus, phaser and motion from Bleass, trichorus and undulator from Eventide, Audiodamage QuatroMod, and this weird free app from Klevgr, SVEP. And some combination efx like Turnado and Effectrix.
That gives a lot of options, for guitar signal I still use only a little bit.
On synthesizer sounds, for me these kind of effects sound a lot better. But in a lot of synth apps there is already chorus, phaser etc. build in the synth effect section, so using this is more easy.
Only flanger is an effect I still cannot appreciate for my own music. Maybe nice for a club DJ, run your master signal through the flanger to make the crowd crazy. Or 70-s style stoner rock. like Monster Magnet, than it fits well.
And what I have read somewhere, Andy Summers guitar sound on Police records sound like a chorus but is actually a flanger effect. So I should try it a bit more.
The Uni-Vibe is a phase shifter with a somewhat weird spacing of all-pass filter cutoffs and an interesting LFO. In a digital setting, looking for a way of modulating several all-pass filters with various LFO types might be interesting for you. The Uni-Vibe can also cut the clean signal path. So, a phase shifter that gives you control of that parameter with a continuous setting might be fun for you to play with too.
Yeah Summers mainly used and EHX Electric Mistress. But, a flanger and a chorus are very similar. The flanger has shorter initial delay and a feedback path. So, If you turn the feedback down and raise the delay, you can approach the sound of a chorus while retaining a bit of the flanger sound. In digital, a single effect can cover the range between the two and give you even more flexibility to where you can set the ranges of the controls.
With enough flexibility in the controls, flanger, chorus, vibrato, and modulated delay with feedback are all the same thing. So, playing around with an effect that gives you more control of where the differences in settings are can yield some pretty cool sounds.
Thanks for your explanation, nice.
You mention vibrato and that is also a difficult one for me. I get the feeling the notes or chords are out of tune, when used with other instruments. So I have no real purpose for it.
Tremolo can be cool at a very high rate, like the lead guitar on the first Interpol albums.
