Was going to buy fac drumkit this week but think I'm opting for this. Not saying it's better but I think it will add something different to my setup
Apple event then watch Doug.
I see the function to export a preset in the online manual but I don't see the export button in the app itself. Anyone else find it?
Mac too! This looks fantastic. Really handy
Love it. Drum apps from Klevgrand are amazing.
Not to rain on the parade, but remember that Apple not so long ago introduced a brush jazz kit to their GarageBand drums? And they are quite nice.
Apple can kiss my ass. This is way more versatile and creative.
That seems somewhat excessive!
That said, I can't believe the control over the percussion in this app. It's really next level, even for Klevgrand.
Doug at the sound test room just did a great live video that just finished up. Warning ⚠️ watching this video will most likely make you purchase the app. Lol. Borsta is currently 25% off on Intro pricing at $14.99
I know it’s a different approach then Slammer, the apps are set up completely different but both are about drums. I’m curious if you could only get 1… Slammer or Borsta which would be preferred? I want Borsta but I’ve always wanted Slammer as well… ughhh can’t decide… lol.
@Jumpercollins what would be the kick or closest thing to a kick… the bucket or pizza box?
I think Borsta is more unique, and more useful. Just IMO though, YMMV of course.
Seeing as we're talking drums (and Apple is large and powerful) it is probably more like "Apple can kick my ass".
I love the brush drummers in GarageBand but this is something different entirely and I’ll use it in a much different way then I do the smart drummer in GB. Both have their place for me.
Love this app so far. I’ve usually always seen Klevgränd get really warm responses with their apps, but noticed some haters lately. I love their stuff.
Neither !
Really. Huh.
@sharifkerbage not to be a jerk but it probably be a good idea to update thread title to something like “Borsta new brush drum app from Klevgrand” so people see it and know right away it’s out, and what it’s called. Just a thought.
This strikes me as having potential for more laid back drum & bass as well. Bought.
Ha!
Actually, my ass is quite average…
True! Will do
Thank you kindly. Cheers!
On a scale of 1 to Soft Drummer by LUMbeat, how great is this app?
This is a brilliant question and one I wished I heard the answer to before buying (I have) and playing (I haven't)...
It’s totally different IMO. This app really lets you dig into the beat, you have a lot more control, but of course that means it’s more work.
Soft Drummer is quicker to get going, Borsta gives you total control.
@Poppadocrock A good way to get a kick effect is to lower the pitch and/or play with the EQ, also checking the the open and closed versions of each sample, Borsta give you four different sounds, plus the brush stroke for each preset🌞
Perfectly encapsulated. And Borsta is AUv3 obviously.
Soft Drummer is a natural sounding automatic accompaniment with automatic fills using a whole drumkit and a selectable drummer’s style. It is uses great samples. Some aspects of the drummer style are customizable. Drum patterns can be set up to trigger from pads. It can play songs too. Everything can be controlled from MIDI.
Borsta is a MIDI-controlled pattern and one-shot player for one instrument at a time. Each pattern has a unique independent envelope sequencer for continuously controlling the brush/stroke intensity or phrasing. Multiple Borsta instances can then apparently be used together to function as a drum kit. Many presets are included. Also, sounds terrific.
Soft Drummer uses samples from Jazz drumkits, while Borsta uses a mix of classic and more exotic percussion instruments.
Both are great to use and easy to get started with. SD has a little more focus on getting out of the way and just playing in the background, while staying interesting with automatic variations and fills.
If you want more classic Jazz drums, then SD is probably right. If you want more variety and control of the brushing / strokes, then it’s Borsta.
Darn, I am just a dabbler, but I don’t want to miss out on either. Yep, they are lovely.
Both are right up there at the LUMbeat end of the scale.
