Doug’s video is great. What a cool app.
I just love this app, you really can create unique and natural sounding beats in a matter of seconds.
Two features I would love to see:
1. add own samples
2. and even better imo: midi out
So you can export the midi from the smart drummer of GB? I did not know this.
I am really really loving this app. I own most of Klevgrands plugins, and use Skaka, Ting, and Slammer way more than I should, but this one might take the cake. It’s excellent.
For me this app is most like Lumbeats "Mid-East Drummer" since most of the options are world/ethnic hand percussion and the bulk of the beats are poly-rhythmic as opposed to Jazz brush on snare patterns (though those are also included).
It also overlaps a lot of the ethnic percussion provided by DrumJam and Lumbeats "Brazilian/Latin Drummer" with cajon and dozens of standardized latin patterns.
I'd love to hit the AUM Start transport and have multiple instances start for me and it appears that I need to send the Borsta instances specific MIDI Notes to trigger a host sync'ed START. Host STOP seems to work but there's no MIDI clock or Ableton setting offered to generate a START event except for an incoming MIDI note from another app.
Is that correct? and if YES what app would you recommend for sending a MIDI note... I'm sure I own most options and will start to look into a simple solution and update this comment when I find one I like but I'd take any clues...
UPDATE: I tried LK and couldn't get it to just send a "C" (NOTE = 48) on host start but I could get it to send a C with every Loop but a long note didn't trigger Borsta.
I tried Polybeat and also found it would send a note every loop.
So, I picked the "MIDI Swiss Army Knife" Moziac and used this simple script:
Since Streambyter is free we should convert this ON/OFF code into that scripting tool too.
Here's another version where Knobs 1 and 2 change the selected pattern on Borsta instances listening on channels 1 and 2. If there's any interest, I'll add channels 3 and above... and maybe look into changing instrument presets using AUv3 parameters. Just playing with 2 instances and pattern changes it's proving to be a nice extension for quick randomization of 2 instances.

This thing has a particular washboard genius. Very good.
Really, I thought it was one sound per instance? Or Maybe I’m misunderstanding you.
I imagine it’s coming soon since Thumbjam is AU already. I can’t wait either though. I have all 3 of their apps and love them all. Thumbjam in particular is a favorite.
Hmmm. Really? Don't see it from NS2 or AUM....would be a dream, but unless I'm missing something....
I wanted to grab Ting and Skaka a while ago but couldn’t decide on iOS or Desktop. It’s annoying. They’re just expensive enough on each platform that I gave up and still haven’t bought any Klevgrand yet on either platform. I got a sweet Kontakt library from Rattly and Raw- Will Fry’s Percussion which is great.
I downloaded Borsta to demo on desktop So we’ll see.
It’s probably me but I’m hearing sync issues within AUM. Timing is off // I’m doing something wrong
I saw 2 posts over on GS or KVR saying it wasn't synching properly in Logic and Digital Performer on desktop...
Edit: I think don’t think there’s any issue on desktop after all. I don’t think they entered any midi notes in their DAWs.
Also this app is sick!
@Poppadocrock You are correct, it is one sound per instance, but that sound has four variations which can sound very different from each other.
Sample one open & closed and sample two open and closed, plus overall pitch control and EQ, reverb and room simulation.
And complete mix control over everything, both open and closed samples and the brush effect, the brush effect can also be used independently from the samples, the brush effect actually has three mixer positions.
@iOSTRAKON It may be a long shot but the sync issue may not be an issue at all.
Borsta gives you absolute complete control over the timing of everything, it may be that the sync tab has not been activated.
This option will let you snap everything to grid, or, on the other hand you can just turn it off and move everything freely, or mix and match, this works for both sample sequencers and the brush sequencer too.
Then it also has swing and a timing randomiser which lets you introduce human like drift, if this is set too high then it will appear there are sync problems.
Damn this app is amazing. I have made Drambo my main drummachine and thought that i wouldn’t need another but this one really stands out.
Ah guess I was mistaken. I probably read where they were working on it and wrongly assumed it had already happened. I don’t mind using IAA so it’s not a huge deal for me.
Pulled the trigger on this one yesterday after reading all the hype and, wow! This might be my new favorite Klevgrand app. I played with it a bit last night making shuffles for DnB beats (it's freaking brilliant for that), and the possibilities seem endless! At first I was confused by the need for an external sequencer to sync starts, but once I started playing with a piano roll and moving between notes within a bar, holy cow! Can't wait to hear what other people make with this app. Kudos to Klevgrand!
Am I right in believing this can modulate tempo (think custom swing), as well as velocity? Cause I’ve been on a quest to simulate samba swing (for instance) with MIDI, ever since I can remember.
I really hope I’m right about this, cause I bought it yesterday. Just skimmed the manual and Doug’s video. I’m just eager to join the fun.
What would be REALLY cool would be the ability to record your own swings. Like record a bar of audio, extract transients, and apply to any instrument.
Edit: and cooler even, if this was impaktorized
@pedro
What do you mean? Using it live - or drum replacements?
Yeah, this app is killer!
I meant drum replacement. Playing percussion, and have the audio converted to midi to drive Borsta. Can probably be done using drambo, but I haven’t tried yet. I’m still figuring the manual and how the app works
Just hooked it up with my minilab, and straight out of the box the keys trigger loops, and the pads trigger one-shots. I’m in love

Rain Sess: Tinkering in AUM
With Borsta, Skaka, Slammer, Hillman, Model D, Atom 2, and Scaler 2
It would be awesome if Klevgrand created an traditional acoustic drum app with their sampling technology/UI/UX!
Beautiful Mike so lovely and chill. I'm digging it! Cheers, ED
Thank you!
