Well, "429 Too Many Requests" at elektronauts. site now.
Just noticed that. Elektron site is down 🤯
We are delighted to announce the release of Syntakt – the 12 track drum computer and synthesizer that fuses digital and analog synthesis together in one music megabox.
Enter this sonic metropolis and experience epic sounds from the past, while pulling others into existence from the future. Syntakt is a drum specialist, full of percussive possibilities, but its four analog and eight digital tracks can be used for melody, harmony, and bass sounds too, giving you a musical melting pot with dozens of machines at your disposal.
Affect the sound of each machine with the intuitive and playful graphics. Add analog distortion and filtering to your mix or separate tracks, using the FX block. Run wild and free with the four expressive modifiers. Access a variety of different scales via the keyboard mode. And create dynamic soundscapes with its phenomenal sequencer.
The streets of Syntakt are never-ending, the neon lights are never-dimming, its underground is fathomless. Discover worlds within worlds.

Looking at the specs it looks like you’re right !
It’s not for me but that makes little difference as I’m sure it will fly off the shelves.
Seems like a new monomachine, might have to sell my mk1 Rytm. I use iOS/Drambo for samples now mostly.
My beloved original Machinedrum suffered catastrophic damage recently, so seeing what looks like the MD's successor gives me a little pause. I've found it hard to get into the post-OT Elektron instruments, though. So clinical.
Maybe I'll pick one up once the "this doesn't sound like an 808!" chants begin, because it happens every time:
A4: Doesn't sound like a 303! (y'all remember those days?)
Rytm: Doesn't sound like an 808! (here we go again)
Digitakt: Doesn't sound like an MPC from 1985!
Digitone: Doesn't sound like a Yamaha from 1986!
Analog Heat: Doesn't sound like a $4,000 channel strip!
Overbridge: Doesn't sound!
etc.
Well, got in a pre-order at Perfect Circuit. Anyone seen an actual release date yet?
[Edit] April 26th, according to this listing
Definitive Review:
Looks like this is going to be a nice little machine to pair with Drambo + DigiTone in the coming weeks
Seems nothing new unfortunately
Great Album of Syntakt music:
Totally agreed. It might have been an interesting box 10 years ago.
Not even physical drum models but rather the same old stuff again.
But I can imagine that for a number of elektron die-hards that's enough reason to buy the third brother of the DT/DN/ST bundle.
Loopop in-depth review
absolutely amazing machine .. synth/sound designer's wet dream ... fantastic .. instabuy
just for processing of input audio.. not a sampler .. pure synth-based engine ..
I think this will fit in nicely with my setup. I've always wanted Rytm and Analog 4 and MachineDrum. It will pair up nicely with the DN, OT and Drambo
So good sounding to my ears:
i've been looking for quite a while (years really) to find a suitable replacement for my machinedrums (its to the point i dont want them to leave the studio), and I haven't found one yet. I don't think this is it either.
Just bite the bullet and get another one. Your not ever gonna lose money on it. And with the MCL, the differnces between mk1's and mk2's are pretty much non existent. Plus you get all the modern elektron sequencer benefitsthe MD didnt have OTB.
Probably stupid question 🙋🏻♂️…
What does “analog” mean in this device?. There’s 4 analog tracks with analog machines and analog effects… I mean, there’s no “real” analog vco’s, filters or distortion on this unit, right?. Im confused. Does analog mean “analog sounding” but all in digital domain or is there some analog circuitry here?.
BTW I love this thing.
I mostly agree: this just straps all the versions of bread and butter drum synthesis elektron had historically done into an improved/fine tuned Digitakt form factor. But that makes for a very flexible and attractive package..
I don’t feel like elektron’s selling point lately has been ‘interesting’. Most of their boxes feature familiar bread and butter sound engines, and effects. I feel like electron is all about the workflow and performability.
The Takt form factor with overbridge is still a killer feature set. Just the multitracking feature is huge.
I'm not sure I'm the target audience for such a box. All the sounds in the BoBeats video so far sound like everything I rejected in GR16 and Elastic Drums. It has made me reappreciate the Digitakt, which has fallen out of favor during the past few months of all guitar, all the time.
@tahiche does appear to be actual analog circuits for the analog tracks. Not sure about the effects but some of them may be analog as well.
Thanks! . You know you’re a noob when you read this and wonder “how does it fit?” 😬🤦🏻
I’ve doing some extensive research 🤓
This is an analog synth, right?. Being a guitar person I tend to think of valves when I hear analog… I know…
I love the Digitakt and this Syntakt sounds great and seems like a lot of fun. BUT the fact it’s not polyphonic is very limiting. Like Loopop says, why not dedicate 3/4 tracks to be able to play chords with a keyboard?. That would really expand the use case.
Because step sequencers generally don’t play well with polyphony... it can be done but a lot of hassle and ends up being convoluted... just doesn’t sit well with a box designed for immediacy/performance...
If that is an analog synth depends on what you mean by analog. Those all look like logic gates and a timer (clock). They get used to put out an analog signal, but the parts aren't any more analog than the CPU in your iPad is (which is all analog).
Elektron probably use all surface mount parts for the analog paths in their synths. The SMD parts are incredibly tiny. I have to use a binocular microscope to solder the big versions of surface mount parts. They can pack a ton of op-amps and transistors into very little area on a PCB. Surface mount versions of the old VCA, VCF, and VCO IC's are really small now too.
Not for me, but it looks pretty rad. I like that it has a mini Analog Heat inside. I also wonder how the analog FX differ from the digital reverb and delay.
The digital FX are send FX, like the other digiboxes, and at least one video says the analog FX are NOT send. But the UI sure makes it look like they get sent. I wonder how Overbridge handles all that. One of the worst parts of Overbridge for me is that all FX end up on their own dedicated track.
Sequencer-wise, I still think the OP-Z is way superior. It’s more immediate, and you can use trig conditions on FX, not just on the trigs.
Still, this looks like a great Elektron groovebox.
yeah .. fantastic .. i'm hyper excited .. instabuy, just need gather some funds firtst lol ... bought A4 mk1 2 months ago and was promising myself it's last purchase this year ... but .. it's electron, it's addiction, can't resist
Yep. I agree. It’s going to be a great instrument.
Noob question, but I'm interested on what "immediate" means in this context. From what I've seen on the tubes, it's easier to finger drum on the Digitakt than on the OP-Z, and for my lizard brain that spells immediacy
As with a couple of their recent products, this looks amazing for everyone except existing Elektron owners. As the owner of a Rytm, Octatrack and Analog Keys, there’s not enough ‘new’ here to get me on board, unfortunately, and the stuff it leaves out (most notably song mode) is unfortunate.
I’m still looking for the perfect all in one groovebox, and won’t buy another until there’s a proper game changer. I think the Deluge is still best in terms of hardware, for now (simply because of how much it does, regardless of the Syntakt probably sounding better)… and Drambo in software, obviously!
For anyone who doesn’t yet own an Elektron, though… wow I’m jealous, you’ll get SO much out of the Syntakt!
I would say it's more about subjective preferences, we are all different .. i can't imagine anything more "immediate" than Elektron workflow on DT/DN .. i didn't experienced such immediacy never in my life (making music fo 25 years) - i turn ON those boxes and ideas are flowing like river, immediately materialised. And it was like that from day one i purchased them Have them for one and half of year now and never found single one caveat, no cons for me. Perfect tool.
Quick example-if you want to have a trig play only once every four times around, on Elektron you hold the trig, and turn a knob while looking at the screen to get the right number. On OP-Z it’s a quick button combo, no looking required. It’s a subtle difference, and as @dendy says, down to personal preference. And I personally prefer the OP-Z for this.
The Elektrons are great though.
