Definitely the sound + available presets. Even just the ‘simple’ ones like the brassy patches evoke Vangelis unlike any other synth I can think of. After all these years Tera is the first synth that has beat Zeeon imo of the most analog sounding.
Then there’s the flexibility between which synthesis modes you want to use.
Just starting off with a default patch and having an osc in FM mode, I spent a lot of time just enjoying step automation on the Ratio and FM IDX parameters. I think this is a great way to learn any synth but even more for one as in depth as Tera.
Try the ‘Berlin Session’ preset and play with params on the 2nd osc.
Listen to the different combinations of FM and PM while tweaking the LFO modulations on the Pitch, Phase and FM Index. It’s gorgeous!
As far as the interface, it is clever and a good balance to deal with the modularity of it…to be really nitpicky about it I may find the constant opening and closing of modules eventually annoying, but a lot of that might just be the delay time you have to hold down on a parameter. Overall I think it beats having to do a lot of panning and scrolling like you have to do in MiRack. Not sure there’s a better way you could go about it apart from having dedicated pages….
And as much as I enjoy designing my own sounds I like knowing that there’s a treasure trove of presets to go through when I just feel like exploring. It’s like a big bag of candy you can reach into blindfolded and get something you might not have tasted before. Also it’s not like you have to start from scratch but find something as a starting point that you can then massage into place.
I can’t wait for it to be on mac so I don’t have to care about whether I want to listen to it directly from ipad for a limited time or keep it plugged in and listen to it through screen mirroring. It’s a vampire but it’s worth it.
So anyway, tldr, sound quality, vast sound design options, how it sounds when you tweak it, presets as a security blanket / fun of spinning the wheel. I haven’t even checked the random generation yet…
Thanks Virsyn!
EDIT: sry I forgot you don’t have it so you can’t tweak it. If the intro price is still going…..
I’m certain if you started from a blank patch and started designing, the sound will overrule whatever feeling you have about navigation. It’s not that bad.
Yeah if I didn’t get sucked into a conversation I would’ve been following my own advice and still probably be soending time diving deeper into Tera since I was getting excited to when writing about it lol
I just wanna say... I love the karplus sound, never heard of this synthesis mode before and it sounds so magical.

New update 1.1 is finally working on Apple Silicon Macs: stand alone and as AUv3 ( works in Ableton Live 11 beta )
😍
This is really great news, @VirSyn Thank you!
Yes, it’s awesome news. Especially as I’ve just ordered a Mac Studio. Can’t wait!
This doesn't appear in my account list of purchases on the Mac and is asking me to pay again - what do I do?
Just buy it, it will confirm that you already bought it.
Pierre is correct. I don’t know why this App Store bug still hasn’t been fixed, but items already purchased will not double-charge you.
It’s a right pain that bug to be sure; I got a bit happy with it the other day installing stuff on my new laptop, and so only when I got a credit card notification did I realise that the one I’d just given permission to was a desktop version of something I owned on iOS and hadn’t realised was a separate thing 🙄
Does anyone know if the app was tested in GarageBand as an AU?
It works as an AU in Garageband on my Macbook M1 Pro.
Thanks!
And it's performing flawlessly so far in GarageBand. Nicely done, Harry!
No, it doesn't make them obsolete. And I recommend AddStation.
Ah ok, cheers both.
It doesn't make them obsolete but Tera Pro is pretty much a superset of these synths. Offers most of what they have and a lot more besides. Addstation was my favourite iOS synth until Cube Synth Pro surpassed it but Tera Pro is now my number 1. It's the way you can so easily dial in modulation to any parameter that's the killer feature.
I really didn’t want to ask this here but how can you mark a preset as a favorite?
I’ve been through the manual and can find nothing.
@VirSyn is this possible?
It is not. It would be a very useful feature.
I find the sounds and flexibility of AddStation far more appealing. In fact, for me it really comes down to just a few patches in particular why I prefer AddStation! There is a bass patch and a patch that sounds exactly like a vocal and I use these patches on many songs. Wild, complicated sounding patches have little place in my projects. Tone and playability are everything for me.
You can form whatever criteria you like for your own recommendations. Do not presume to be the arbiter of taste for others.
I don't have CubeSynth Pro but I would say that Tera Pro and Addstation are different enough that I would not be thinking of Tera Pro as being a superset of AddStation. It isn't obvious to me that Tera Pro does all the things that AddStation does and the workflow feels quite different to me.
