BTW, I still have the older "Tera Synth" installed.
I presume that I can delete this now, hoping that it did not offer something that the "Pro" version doesn't have.

Yes, all the features and functions that were present in the previous Tera are present in Pro but in refined form including all the original Tera presets.

I'd still say that if one interested in more advanced additive synthesis Cube Synth Pro and Addstation offer some extra features NOT present in Tera Pro such as option to sequence multiple waves together (Addstation) or in the case of Cubase Synth Pro 4 Additive corners with a complex vector envelope.

AddStation also has more options for the additive oscillators such as per-partial envelopes which are not present in Tera Pro.

The Spectral oscillator in Tera Pro has two additive oscillators somewhat similar to those in Addstation and Cube Synth Pro but with a few cut corners.

But yeah, I've 'reduced' my Virsyn app flora to ReSlice, AudioLayer, Matrix Vocoder and Tera Pro, I have more but those cover most bases for me when it comes to Virsyn 'sound' :sunglasses:

  • AddStation is awesome and can absolutely not be replaced by Tera Pro.

  • CubeSynthPro completes the Trinity.

I really didn’t want to ask this here but how can you mark a preset as a favorite?
I’ve been through the manual and can find nothing.
    @VirSyn is this possible?

It is not. It would be a very useful feature.

Agreed. Even if we could create a folder. Anything would be great.

  • Thanks for the M1 update, VirSyn. Another app which state saves correctly in both directions between iPad and Mac when used in a MultiTrackStudio project.

If anyone else is struggling to find the app on their Mac like I did (does not appear in searches) then try going in via the web App Store link https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tera-pro/id1578464219

Thanks for the link. The Mac Store however wants me to pay again!? That goes for Cube Synth Pro as well but Addstation I could just download to my Mac as it should be. I don't know if that is an Apple issue or if you can do something? @VirSyn

As tja says, this is the thing that happens sometimes with apps/IAP where it looks like you need to purchase again. As long as you bought it on iPad then you will get a message after "purchasing" that says you already own it and so get it for free. I don't know if the developer can influence how this works.

On the Mac, the thing you need to be careful of is purchasing apps which are for sale on both the iOS App Store and also the Mac part of the App Store ("Mac Apps" section). I got caught by this by the apeSoft app iDensity which I already owned on iOS and ended up paying for again as this was a separately payable Mac app.

I do agree actually with both @Samu and @espiegel123. if someone is specifically interested in exploring Additive synthesis in depth there are some significant extras in Cube Synth Pro and Addstation but if you just want a great all-round synth that does most of what they do (to an 80:20 level) and much more besides I'd go with Tera Pro. Personally I'm finding I can reproduce the additive patches I created in the previous two synths in Tera Pro although I would certainly like the additional Wave Sources that are available in Cube Synth Pro to be made available in the Tera Pro Spectrum Oscilator (please @VirSyn :) ). It probably depends a lot on what kind of patches you're trying to create though...

If there's one 'thing' I feel is missing in Tera Pro it's a 'sample oscillator'. It doesn't have to be as complex as AudioLayer a single sample with per oscillator would do making it possible to layer a few samples.

Adjustable/Modulatable parameters for the sample oscillator would be Start Offset, Playback Direction, Loop Mode (Off, Forward, Reverse, Ping-Pong) and option to edit the loop parameters per preset. It should be possible to use the imported samples from any preset (ie. the samples end up in a global 'sample pool').

But that's wishful thinking on my part...

  • Yeah, agreed, a sample oscillator would be awesome for uploading single cycles or single waves files.

  • Also agreed!

Just be careful as the next quite obvious step is baking in features from ReSlice.
Creating a transposable 'slice/wave/offset sequence'(Think WaveStation Light) as an oscillator with control over the pitch of each slice etc. etc.

    Cheers!

  • Oh, man. A sample oscillator would be amazing. The icing on the cake.

Yeah, considering Poseidon and ReSlice are also sample-based the 'know-how' on how to properly do it is already there :sunglasses:

Any chance of Serum-compatible wavetable support, @VirSyn ? I know that’s a whole other thing.

  • Wavetables would be cool too for sure.

  • Personally I'm more than happy with the Drambos wavetable engine and all it's shaping options :sunglasses:

  • Hi :)

This is my first post here, and Tera is probably my favorite synth on iPad, congrats :)

Here is a patch I made some days ago

    -fx

  • I wish for a table comparing Tera Pro with Tera Synth, Addictive Pro with Addictive Synth, and Cube Synth Pro with Cube Synth. I own licenses for all of the original “synth” versions (no Poseidon or Addstation). I am not opposed to upgrading and supporting the dev, but I sort of want to know the differences ahead of time.

  • Tera Pro, Nambu... we're swimming in great synths recently.

Yeah, a good idea for sure to make a better decision. Let's start with...

What does Tera Pro have that Tera Synth doesn't have:

    1) Additional Sound Modules

    • Spectrum oscillator ( borrowed from the heart of Addictive Synth )
    • Wave shaper / folder opens the west coast synthesis
    • Vocal Morphing filter
    • Waveguide with new "Swarm" mode ( 3 detuned delays )

    2) Revised engine

    • Analog Polysynth Voice Modelling with characteristic subtle voice variations of timbre, pitch and temporal behaviour to get you "The" Analog Sound.
    • 128 vs 32 voices polyphony
    • Seamless Sound Switching: change presets during play without cutting off the sound.
    • 8 times unison for really heavy ambients
    • Envelope generators with Buchla style "end of cycle" trigger for generative music
    • Stack/Split Sounds
    • New effect section
    • MIDI Polyphonic Expression ( MPE )

    3) Redesigned User Interface

    • Collapsible modules for clear view of modular structure
    • No more nasty popups for LFOs/Envelope generators
    • Realtime oscilloscopes added to selected modules

    4) New Presets

    • About 1000 additional presets in there. Tera never sounded this good...

Has anyone had luck with Tera pro on Mac? It doesn’t show in my purchased items on the App Store on my laptop, but I guess doing the fingers crossed purchase thing will install it without charging me again… (or is there a separate purchase for a Mac version that I’ve missed?)

some apps don't show up on purchased list. just search for Tera Pro and choose iPhone&iPad Apps from the result. you can download from there.
Tera Pro works great on M1Air+M1Max

Ah wicked, nice one thanks :)

  • @VirSyn Thank you! Sometimes less is more, but that is a very compelling list of new features.

  • Just curious, can I DL Terra Pro on my M1 MBA if I already purchased it on iPad? It comes up as to be purchased and I'm pretty sure it will eventually say DL for free if I go through with the purchase, but wanted to double check first!
