  • i’m trying to decide if i want it just for quick music playground sketching

  • It's a very slept-on app. I used to sometimes play around with it, but I haven't bothered with it in about 3-4 years. I prefer Gadget 2 for quick music playground sketching. :)

  • Only as a companion to the desktop version. If you only work on mobile/tablet then don’t use FL mobile.

  • how do you use it as a companion to desktop?

I like it. Even though I am a noob to the 5th power I have been able to “put” together simple melodies in 15 minutes. The one below even has Yonak’s Kauldron as a synth for the bass.

Very deep, very elegant, very under appreciated (if not hated on).
My #1. I occasionally ship stems from it out to desktop version, but integration with the desktop FL is not my main use case. It is my main iPad DAW. People that throw shade are usually under-informed about it’s features and capabilities

do you have Kauldron open in the Fl studio app? or is it playing midi out to Kauldron standalone? from my understanding is that FL studio doesn’t use outside synth and effects in the app?

Exactly this! I bounce between FLSM and Zenbeats but IMHO FLSM is the closest any iOS app comes to the NS2 workflow but with audio tracks. Each has their shortcomings but either I can work around those missing features or just take a different approach. These are the only two DAW’s I have on my iPad.

  • I think it’s a great app if you just use the built in instruments and fx. It’s always been problematic for me when trying to use iaa apps or Audiobus with it, I’ve never been able to pull it off without it crashing on me. I’d love to see it support Auv3 instruments and fx but I don’t think it’s ever going to happen. Other then not playing nice with 3rd party apps I like it.

intresting. i have nS2, but the lack of audio tracks is frustrating. and zenbeats i tried but haven’t unlocked yet.

Agreed - AudioBus/IAA is not worth bothering with on FLSM IMHO. I have found that putting FLSM on a track in AUM locks up pretty well with other tracks so I just record audio from the non-FLSM tracks and import it to an audio track in FLSM.

I basically added an new “instrument” and I selected the Audiobus/IAA option. This allowed me to select the kauldron synth as one of the options available. After I clicked it, it opened Kauldron. I minimized it and was able to use the piano roll to control Kauldron in fl studio. It was simple, easy, and smooth for me, and trust me, I am the biggest noob ever.

Another tip - I like to use Koala to make weird little loops and then arrange them in FLSM. Kind of the best of both worlds.

  • I just realized that the settings on Kauldron do not save, so I guess it’s just controlling the app outside of flstudio mobile. :(

That's partially correct. IAA does connect the audio from the outside app, so it's doing a little more than just controlling the app outside of FLSM. But IAA doesn't have state saving so settings can't be recalled when you re-open the session. Some apps open to their last used state, but that only helps if you pick up exactly where you last left off.

You can export all kinds of ways, the resulting .wav(s) can be separate stems accessible in Files app, or a mixdown and there all kinds of options for quality etc

I have found IAA very workable, AB3 not so much. I can midi sequence an IAA instrument (through onboard or IAA FX) and include the resulting audio in a mix or stem export or “print” the audio with the Save utility (it appears in an in-app file location), for import into the project (or use that audio from an IAA clip in Slicer which is killer with various IAA sources).

They continue to add instruments FX and features. Im doing the beta and good s##t is coming, and keeps coming.

  • very cool. so when I look at the in app purchases in the app store. it said the slicer is an in app purchase, but there is no price. how much does it cost to add the slicer ?

I think you are looking at some samples and not the slicer itself.

From Koala you can go to the FLSM User folder in the Files app and save them in the My Samples folder where you can create your own folders to keep things sensible.

Yeah - that way of using IAA works well too!

As simple as Slicer is, you can just throw stuff into it and see what you get. Rearranging the MIDI adds another level of fun. 😎👍🏼

Whatever it costs it’s worth it. Might be $1.99. I don’t recall exactly but their IAP’s are generally pretty reasonable.

You could try asking on the FLSM forum. Devs are active there pretty much every day.

  • I think the slicer functionality comes with the core program
