I too was a full on fruity looper back in the early part of the century, gigged with it and wrote loads of music with it, but somehow lost my perpetual licence and never went back for it… I should give this a go sometime, does it have the original drum machine interface at all, or is it fully piano rolled up?

Yes, it has a drum sequencer. Not exactly ike FL Studio, but the same idea.

Ah cool cheers Wim, maybe it is time to fruit the loop once again :) I should have made sure I held onto that license, one of the $99 ones!

There’s very little resemblance between FLSM and FL Studio Desktop. A FL Studio license is a sad thing to lose. Definitely worth trying to recover. Image line is very good about helping with license issues. If you even remember the email address you registered it under you will probably be able to get it back.

I really liked the very early versions of floops, hardly any distraction by Tom’s of options. I used to mainly use it for writing tunes to go with skate videos we did for magazine cover disks, and I did a few live sets with it too at times… unfortunately I think I’ve lost the email address I used at the time- I can’t even recall whether it was a company one or an old yahoo, plus me mate paid for it on his credit card as I didn’t have one at the time, in exchange for, get this, my old pocket minidisc player 😅

  • @Littlewoodg : Damn, you killed it on this thread! Nice job and thanks for the insights

  • The idea that each track is an essentially limitless rack of equipment is interesting.

And they now have separate volume and pan controls for every individual instrument and effect in the rack so you can make a patch that plays every synth and effect with one note, including arpeggiation on the synths that support it, and mix them in stereo however you like. And everything can be controlled with automation.

I've also always liked the stock 909 drum preset -- so much so that now that I've gone back to FL Studio (Mac) I sampled them as my default drum kit.

But even on my Mac I like to fire up FL Mobile (it's compatible) when I simply want to plug in my guitar and play with a simple effect chain that instantly performs (full FL's always had a bizarre audio routing scheme that I still feel clunky with).

  • If you treat it as just a all in the box DAW with the limitations that brings then yes.

  • Nothing else sounds quite like it..

Very deep, very elegant, very under appreciated (if not hated on).
My #1. I occasionally ship stems from it out to desktop version, but integration with the desktop FL is not my main use case. It is my main iPad DAW. People that throw shade are usually under-informed about it’s features and capabilities

Exactly this! I bounce between FLSM and Zenbeats but IMHO FLSM is the closest any iOS app comes to the NS2 workflow but with audio tracks. Each has their shortcomings but either I can work around those missing features or just take a different approach. These are the only two DAW’s I have on my iPad.

@anickt : That’s a great combination as Zenbeats has all the ZR1 and Zc1 sounds plus auv3 and FL just has “the sound “.. So full and punchy .. Love it

I'm not a fan of FLSM, though I'm glad to see it seeming to gain in stability and getting some traction with users. I reinstalled it the moment I heard that they added 3xOSC. Man, what a synth! I don't know what it is about that one, but I can dial in great patches that sound like I expect them to so fast. The FL Studio desktop one was the first synth I ever learned. I didn't know a good synth from a rompler back in those days, but I did know I could make convincing patches in no time.

One of the first things I do with any new modular like miRack, Tera Pro, Nambu, and Drambo is to see if I can construct a satisfying 3xOSC clone. It never works. :D I get some great patches, but my creations just don't have that 3x0SC vibe and immediacy.

I'd pay good money for an AUv3 version of 3xOSC if Imageline ever put it out.

  • @wim “I don’t know what it is”..
NOBODY does … There’s just something about it, huh? Sounds incredible .

A good synth is something different than a good DAW! In my experience they have never been on par with the usual suspects in iOS land - and never will be. To me it seems that they are still trying to catch up and bolt features on top of a mediocre architecture...

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • FL Mobile just added individual clip splitting in the timeline (yes, it should have been there long ago) and multiple sends, with effects busses having sends of their owns, and I'm seriously considering using it for my projects instead of full FL Studio on my MacBook Air. I also have it on iPads, iPhone and bought the Android version for a Chromebook -- it's the same on every platform.

  • A couple of years ago I hated FLMS. I was a beta tester and had to quit. While I liked a lot of it, it had some serious dealbreakers for me. Fast forward to mid-2021 or so.

Gave it another try. Now this is more like it! A lot of the things I begged them to improve (like especially file handling) had been updated. Once I took the time to figure out where everything was and how to access it (which I would do on any app) I was up to speed.

Speaking of finding out where everything was, that is often a roadblock for me. If some basic feature is not accessible without digging in to a manual, I just shut down. I don’t believe in (IMHO) unnecessarily obtuse approaches to basic functions which is what I find in many DAW’s.

I won’t go into what I like about it specifically other than to say I now consider it the best iOS DAW for my needs, not unnecessarily complex but not too simple either. And I don’t know what others are hearing, but there are plenty of useful sounds in its long list of presets.

It’s not perfect, and it has its quirks, but I’ll take it over everything else until NS2 gets audio tracks. 😆

IMHO of course and YMMV. Happy Holidays! 🎅🏼

  • Does the mobile plugin only appear in FL Studio on desktop, or is it a VST / AU that works in other environments, ableton etc? I just installed the demo to see but could only see it in FL so far…

    Only FL Studio afaik

If your goal is cross platform projects with a auv3 plugin in a desktop daw, like Ableton, I’d use Drambo.

  • Now my answer is an emphatic "YES" all around, lol. Using FLSM to create my second lofi ep "Lounging in Another World" as well as most of the tracks on my "Wintertime" ep, it's just a wonderful app overall. :) Do I wish it had AUv3 capabilities? Yes. But what's already included in the package is excellent. :)

Cheers, it would have been a bonus, might just grab anyway as walled gardens are sometimes great for creating the limitations inducive of creativity…

the entire FL Studio appears and is usable as a VST in other environments, so pretty sure you then can open Mobile in FL then in your other DAWs. And a few updates ago Mobile in FL. became Multi-out to the FL mixer (each track in Mobile became a separate track in FL) and the FL VST is multi out Im pretty sure.. will check

  • Fl studio and FLSM are like two different boats to two different places…I’ve never been interested at all in the mobile one, but I like the OG version

Agreed but I exclusively use FLSM on my iPad for music because it’s a lot more convenient/portable and my work is (and has been for over 30 years) all computer based. It’s good to get away from that environment. I can do pretty much anything I want on FLMS. 😎👍🏼

    I can relate!

  • I use it on my ipad and android phone, depending whichever device is in my hand. Can easly port projects between devices and pc. All in one approach is sometimes more stable than plugin use.

  • I still struggle with the drum portion of the app but it’s getting better. This for me is probably the only app I use where I can design drums and create my own samples for other apps like koala. This and garageband are very underrated on what you can do if you get creative. Flsm rabbit hole on YouTube is pretty deep.

Does FLsm have multi core processor support ? And how do you like it these days personally?
