    Lmaooooooo you caught me

  • 10 is a bit too generous what about limiting it to 3? :sunglasses:

BM3, Drambo and Sunvox would be my picks...
...now if we were only allowed ONE app things would get a bit more difficult.

If that was the case I would most likely go for GarageBand and fully embrace it with all its current limitations.

    Cheers!

    mate. 😉

On a more positive note, it would be entertaining to watch the honourable members here to try and squeeze out everything from their 10 apps during the couple of hours their ipad battery would last.

  • @Samu - I’m intrigued with sunvox being in your top 3 - would you be willing to say what you use it for? Is it the tracker workflow or something else? I’ve not spent enough time with it and am now thinking I’m missing out on something!

Sunvox can be used for many things...

It can be used to process incoming audio (apply and process the incoming audio when loaded as an AUv3 effect).
It can be used as a multi-timbral synth / sampler module (each module can be set to respond to incoming midi).
It can be used as a step-sequencer to control other apps (it has 4 midi out ports with 16 channels each).
It is what you make it. You don't even have to use the tracker, just treat is like a modular sound source :sunglasses:

Considering that both Sunvox and Drambo are AUv3's they can both be hosted inside BM3.
I can host SunVox in Drambo if/when needed and all 3 apps work perfectly as stand alone with good export options with everything accessible thru Files.app (except the AUv3 content but it can easily be moved back and forth).

So yeah, those 3 apps for maximum flexibility regarding sound design, shaping and processing.

It does help to have a 'mental picture' on what one wants to do, it really does help.

    Cheers!

It becomes a bit easier if you 'Kill Your Darlings'(ie. remove favorite one-task apps) and focus on the core functions you need.

With Drambo as an example I would not really need any external synths apps as most features can be re-created using the built-in modules. The WaveTable Oscillator with all the Wave Effects leaves most iOS WaveTable synths in the dust and you can mangle the basic waveforms to a degree where there's no need to even create custom wave-tables and everything can be modulated. And one doesn't have to stop with one of them on a track, stack as many as the CPU can handle :sunglasses:

If I need to 'draw' waveforms I can always use Sunvox and chain the *.wav frames together and create a wave-table (ie. draw a 2048 sample long *.wav frame) and paste it into another sample until I have all the frames in one-file and export the *.wav.

The 'Sampler' (not Flexi) in Drambo can be used in a somewhat similar fashion as Koala to sample multiple sounds.
(ie. it records as long as you hold a key, then you just pick another key until you've got all your sounds recorded).
Sure it ain't Koala but for quick beats it works incredibly well and you can tune each of the samples in the 'multi-sample'.

Flexi's Slice Mode can used in similar manner. Record all sounds in one go and add slice-markers.

Both NS2 and Cubasis (with all it's available IAPs) also go a long way.

BM3 goes a long way for anything related to sampling...
...it's not as fast as Koala but can do most of the things with ease.

It does help to have a mental picture of what one wants to do and pick the tool that is 'good enough'.

    Cheers!

This is similar to my mindset at three.
    1. Drambo: covers synth, modulation and processing
    2. Koala: covers sampling
    3. AUM: covers routing

It’s hard for me to exclude all Moog synths and SWAM instruments but these are definitely “Darlings”

  • @Samu
I would most likely go for GarageBand and fully embrace it with all its current limitations.

But it’s free and has no IAP’s. You just killed my reason to live and read this forum. There’s not much left. Oh yeah… desert island torture quiz. I’ll go with Wordle so I have a reason to get up.

  • It's probably just being picky but I'd want a solar panel before worrying about any apps. Although, I'll just take an acoustic guitar anyway.

    Good point 🤔

The battery would last the longest with “Caustic” or maybe “Sunvox”.

    1. Cubasis 3
    2. Drambo
    3. Koala
    4. Web Audio
    5. Barricade
    6. MDE stereo
    7. AUM
    8. Volcano
    9. Timeless
    10. MagicVerb

Going mostly for utility since this would be it, these would cover just about everything I’d need really
