Wow I was just thinking of making a top 5 desert island thread so perfect timing. Now gimme a few days to think of my answer haha. I think for right now it would be:
Borderlands.
Thumbjam.
Gauss.
Fundamental.
Scaler 2.
Skiiid.
Playbeat.
Cubasis 3.
Sampletron.
Synthmaster 2.
Gadget 2
Module Pro
iWavestation
ODYSSEi
Electribe Wave
iMono/Poly
iM1
iMS20
iPolysix
AudioShare
AUM, miRack and FRMS should cover it...
Drambo and BM3 are all i would need to make great music, if fate would be kind enough to leave me undisturbed for a few months/years.
Funny... reading through the choices in this thread it almost reads more like a dating app profile.
So it's good to know Samu would be happy on my Island (and look good in a hula skirt too, i bet).
...and he can bring his SunVox. I still have 8 unused app selections.
In no particular order:
BM3
Drambo
MiRack *
Borderlands *
Samplr *
Drum Computer
Thumbjam *
OtherDesertCities
AudioStretch
PaulStretch *
An interesting exercise. Not that I haven't entered more than my fair share of 'Desert Island' threads, before. But this time seems different.
I only own 5 of the 10 apps I've listed (Those marked with stars). But in thinking about what would make the cut, I now know which to prioritise buying and which to dedicate time and energy into really learning.
Dating app profile indeed!
BM3, Drambo, Spacecraft and Lunar Lander - after that it becomes a blur (could be I just have the feedback up too far). Sounds like I'm heading on a trip somewhere else.. Quite honestly BM3 on it's own would probably do it. Drambo just adds a little extra interest. I hope that doesn't sound too boring.
And I could spend days finger-painting wavetable-frames with SunVox and exporting them as WaveTables to use with Drambo's insanely good WaveTable Oscillator
Actually there's almost no ned to create new wavetables since you can add as many wave-effects as the CPU can handle and all of them can be modulated.
The Procedure is pretty simple create a Sampler in SunVox.
Add a new sample to it (32-bit floats 2048 samples).
Duplicate the Sampler and connect it to the output.
Enable 'Loop' and 'Pen Tool' for the 2nd Sampler, draw your frame playing the keyboard to preview it.
Select All, Copy & Paste the 'Frame' into the 1st Sampler and repeat for all the frames you need.
Save the 1st sample containing all the frames (first frame is last since 'paste' inserts by default) and import to your favorite WaveTable synth, done.
It's geekery at its finest
1) GB - not full featured enough but MIDI timing seems best, and it’s UX is the least annoying.
2). Korg Module Pro - OMG so delighted by the sounds and playability: Scarbee Rhodes, Ivory Grand and KaPRO / orchestral, Organs etc
3) Mixbox - priceless instant gratification
4) Crystalline - whoa - never head of of Baby Audio before but they are on to something special.
5) Moog ModelD - authentically rich, and the GUI is just about right
6) Scaler 2 - Chord binding FTW, something GB almost got right with its chord strips
7) FACDrumkit - AUv3 GUI is near perfection. Just wish there was an easy way to get my imaschine libraries into it.
I just started “dating” Cubasis finally, got me feeling things 🙃
If it's just 3?
Riffler (to generate guitar parts and midi)
Rhino (to make the guitar parts METAL)
Cubasis (to record, for drums and other sounds)
If I get 7 more?
AUM (my musical sandbox)
Rock Drum Machine (best rock drum app)
Aphelian (for arpeggios, bass parts)
Pure Acid (for the sequencer)
ZOA (to create random melodies, lead guitar)
Scaler (for chords and to learn theory)
AudioLayer (for guitar sounds, other samples)
NanoStudio 2
My Desert Island Apps
If only 3:
The other 7 would be:
Still would miss a lot other great apps but I guess this list gives me plenty to explore to be satisfied
No Celluar connection there, so no Scaler 2
I would rather bring a coffin full of books and a solar panel with a world radio receiver.
If I had one choice it would be FLSM all day.

This
I would rather throw my iPad away and enjoy the sunshine than get stuck with FLSM it just doesn't click with me...
I would enjoy the sunrise with Sunrizer..
My top 3 apps for workflow are FLSM, NS2 and Caustic. Nothing else on iOS clicks the same way for me. Funny how the brain works. 😎👍🏼
NS2
ButterSynth
MiRack
PureAcid
Zeeon
ShockWave
Korvpressor
Saturn 2
FAC Transient
Woot
but rather instead of iPad just my Digitakt&Digitone, headphones and solar batteries - and incan stay there for 50 years 😂
Horses for courses as our friend @JohnnyGoodyear might say here.
Funny that FLSM is the only app on this thread got any pushback-
it would be interesting to start a new thread “apps I’d rather throw my iPad away than use”
I am upset about the absence of Earhoof and it is our fate to want that the most which is unavailable to us. I am tempted to be spoilt and not throw this machine into the sea (who would do such a thing after all?), but simply say balls to it all:
but the truth is, and here on this lonesome island, I shall stick with Loretta and all she offers until rescue is at hand:
There are a lot of apps that people here gush over that I just don’t get. I understand them and can use them, but they’re just not fun. Like I said, the brain is an interesting thing. 🤔
Good point: Real life desert island I’d opt for solar batteries, my MPC One, Werkstatt, MicroFreak, MicroBrute, KeyStep 37, BeatStep Pro, Launchpad Pro, Midi Fighter 3D, Midi Fighter Twister, Roli Lightblock, Strymon NightSky and my Beats Pro… poor batteries 😆
I would probably be using the iPad as a frisbee and enjoying the lack of technology. A couple of flutes and some percussion instruments wouldn’t go amiss though.
sounds like you may need this

🤣
Paring it right back:
Cubasis 3
MixBox
I’d also want a drum sampler, I’ve not settled between FAC Drumkit, Sitala or even Drambo yet.
I think it's difficult for most people, save for those who are able to do everything in one app.
So, anyway...Your 'Top Ten'?
