I thought it sounded too easy.
I'll get one anyway and see if it is doable.
I also came across this which already does what I'm aiming for.

It should work. Just get a few more different resistor values to play with, while you're ordering the parts from the BOM.

Another question if I may.
I’ve been researching ways to power a small Eurorack and the thought
occurred to me what if a Eurorack could be powered by usb and then I found this.

I also found this
https://www.synthrotek.com/products/modular-circuits/usb-power/
and finally this
https://www.rakits.co.uk/product/go/
Oh that really depends what you want your power source to be.
There are so many USB power banks and +5V power supplies (wall wart style) in today's world that using these at home is an option if you don't need symmetrical 12V supplies (which is usually only required for audio or CVs >5V).
Amazon has the Wekstatt-01 kit for $149 new. Tempting.

Moog would be the obvious choice for me as it’s built for cv connectivity rather than diy builds. Looks far too much hassle for me
If you have a bit more I’d look at the east coast and west coast synths from cre8audio as they have plenty of cv connections plus midi
Yes, the East Beast and West Pest look very interesting and are almost within the same price range and include CV, Midi and a sequencer.
I’m fairly certain I’ll get a west pest, though the make noise offerings are also tempting, just a lot lot more cahoonie£
Update,
The new distortion pedals have landed and they sound really good and
now I’m contemplating getting some guitar compression pedals.
The vactrol replacement idea is a good one but
it’s going to need proper research to get it done correctly.
It’s certainly not a one size fits all scenario.
I’m still looking at both the NTS-1 and Werkstatt 01 but some thoughts occurred to me.
Why was I looking at either or both of these synths?
It was and still is mainly because of the oscillator and effects so
I started looking at Eurorack oscillators and then thought to myself.
if it’s just for the oscillators then there’s dRambo - MiRack and any of the synths
that we have available on the iOS platform and not forgetting the Jens Guell Jaf Collection
which has over 30 filters and oscillators.
I don’t know how close the Model D or the Model 15 are to a real Moog oscillator
but it’s close enough to real thing apparently and both MiRack and Model 15
have a filterbank which is a lot of fun.
So I thought to myself just load up the iOS ones instead.
Next I ended up looking at some Low pass gates and I had found some
low cost passive LPG’s for around £35 and then I had a look at MiRack which I have already.
MiRack has low pass gates.
All the other functions such as the attenuators, voltage dividers etc I do within dRambo and MiRack
anyway so the NTS-1 and the Werkstatt are now on the G.A.S list and not on the immediate list.
So on that note I’m going to practice some more with dRambo and MiRack and continue to see
the parallels between what we have available on the iOS platform with the stuff that’s out there.
Model D is pretty close to the hardware:
I’d assume Model 15 must be similarly close, as Moog seem to be pretty hot on accurately modelling their hardware in their apps.
Nice one.
I listened back to this on headphones.
In a blind test the Model D sounds really close to the hardware.
One would presume so.
What’s also really useful is the filter from the Model D.
Apparently it’s the combination of the oscillators and filter that give it it’s characteristic sound.
I have had both and prefer the Werkstatt cos I do more with modular. I also have the model d and it sounds really good too but I think the Werkstatt filter is my favorite and doesn’t require a gate to open it if you just want to run some audio in to process. But it’s filter can seriously scream, it’s awesome.
Thank you.
It’s the filter that I’m interested in actually.
I placed the NTS-1 on the back burner because you can’t route
external audio through it’s filter unless you use a third party “plug-in”.
I think the closest oscillator/synth in the Werkstatt price range is the Crave
which has a step sequencer etc but I have more than enough step sequencers.
Quick update.
On my travels I found this
It’s a 0HP module, it’s a passive filter and it’s made by Mystic Circuit.
There are two variations,
one is a low pass filter and the other is a high pass filter.
It’s currently out of stock but I’m awaiting news for when it’s available again.
and I think it’s going to be worth the wait.
Here’s a trailer.
Yesterday I listened to all of the 'analog-sounding' VSTis on my Windows laptop. Arturia V Collection, Korg Legacy Collection, NI Monark, NI Blocks, AAS Ultra Analog, Cherry Audio MG-1...and none of them sounded 'analog-enough' to my ears. That's why the $149 Amazon deal on the Werkstatt-01 is so tempting, just for those fat creamy Moog basses and leads. I owned the Korg Minilogue, and thought it didn't have 'that' analog sound either. Different beast of course, but Moogs are nice and thick and familiar-sounding.
I wouldn't know actually about the "analogue" sound.
Before iOS I wasn't particular interested in synths
except for presets and the occasionally tweaking for tracks.
We don't have that Amazon deal here in the U.K.
The lowest price at the moment is about £160 retail including postage
for both the Werkstatt and the CV expander.
Different beast of course, but Moogs are nice and thick and familiar-sounding.
It's the only thing about software synths which is the "analogue" sound
hence why pro's route stuff out and then back in.
No matter how great the studio, they will always have some outboard to hand.
It does make a difference.
Even when a theoretically perfect sine wave goes out and returns
via D/A 's and then A/D's, the converters smooth the edges so to speak.
Talking about that routing stuff out and back again,
my distortion pedals turned up and they sound fat.
I've also got four compressor turning up most probably
next week which is going to be interesting.
I've also been looking at LPG's which are quite affordable actually.
Have a look here.
This one has a tone switch

and this one doesn't.

I was going to get them but I realised that I didn't exactly know how
they functioned properly so I'm playing with the ones in MiRack at the moment.
I'm trying to figure out if they could double up as standard VCF's as well.
I'm sure they can't but it's the thought that counts.
Cool thanks for the LPG links.
Also check the classifieds for 'Meng Qi LPG', that's another inexpensive passive dual LPG. He is on Etsy and Reverb I believe. I bet the ones you posted and this one are optimized for 'modular-level' inputs and outputs, so you may have to amplify a line-level source like an iPad. Not sure though.
I've only used the Make Noise Optomix and LXD and they were fun, but one thing to note is that an LPG may kill the high treble or 'brilliance' of the incoming sound, and may soften the attack transient. But they'll warm things up in their own way.
I’ve got a CV compatible audio interface which gives me
four CV outs and an extra two with the correct DAC via SPDIF.
If I really wanted to go anymore than that I could get an
Expert Sleepers ADAT thing which will give me an extra eight CV outs.
That’s good to know.
Yeah I absolutely love the filter, I’ll route Pure acid to it using a CVPal and just get lost in some acid for hours. I have been curious about the Crave and may end up getting one eventually but haven’t had the strong enough need for it.
Also if you do any DIY, you can find some really affordable LPG kits. I have an active LPG I use in my setup and the hype for them is definitely real
Okay.
On my searches I found this.
Does anyone know if this could power a Eurorack?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Regulated-Switching-Voltage-Converter-Universal/dp/B07RJJJJZ6/ref=asc_df_B07RJJJJZ6/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=427942048748&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11293407171978574474&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9044970&hvtargid=pla-786414775115&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=108041153028&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=427942048748&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11293407171978574474&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9044970&hvtargid=pla-786414775115
Yeah, I saw a couple of LPG's for only 30 squids and
plenty of kits so I'm getting one soon enough.
They seem to be important for the Eurorack crowd
so now I'm going to find out why.
What did catch my eye is a dual VCF so I'm looking for
a power supply which can power one module or two.
Okay.
The distortion pedals sounds wicked on 808 kick dRms.
Now patiently waiting for my compressors to arrive.
Heading into vactrols, wish me luck.
See ya on the other side.
The Werkstatt is V/Hz isn’t it?
(The NTS-1 is digitally controlled only)
Why not Crave ?
Vactrols are ace, I got one of the takaab ones in my setup a while back for somewhere around the twenty five notes mark… that psu might work but I wouldn’t personally make my first move into euro with it; I took the cowardly route and got the cre8audio case, I should have probably left the bundle well alone as the modules it can’t with weren’t the best, though I will use the chipz one as it’s got lfos and it’sa basic sound source to boot…
Yup.
Yup and it has capability of becoming CV controlled using an Arduino mod.
Much more involved.
@dendy
Because I’ve got so many step sequencers available now because of dRambo
I really don’t want anything that has a step sequencer anymore.
I’ve already got 8, 16 and 32 versions of this for instance
hence why I’m going for oscillators rather than completed synths.
https://doepfer.de/a155.htm
@Krupa
Good advice.
For the time being I only really need three modules.
One dual LPG and two dual VCF’s.
The LPG and Mystic Circuit 0HP Low pass filter are passive and so
my power requirements are really for the dual VCF x 2 because
I want an external stereo filter.
@Gravitas one plan I had was just to use a little IKEA drawer cube thing with a cheap built psu - this sort of thing

My resolve didn’t hold to such a simple solution, but I have faith that yours might 😄
Let’s see how long my resolve lasts for shall we. 😁
Where it’s at 😬
(Could be worse I’m sure)
