With these new functions it's possible to "fatten up" the sound. Some smart additions from the developer. ;)

Agree, I had a couple of patches that were cool but a bit tame. The preamp helps punch them up.

Also very good for reducing certain frequencies and balancing the sound out more across a wider range of the keyboard. I love sine waves in the mid-lows, mediums and towards the highs, but they can get very boomy and muddy towards the bottom, so hopefully being able to shave a little off the low end will help keep that kind of thing in check. It'll also help with certain things getting a bit harsh towards the top end.

    Another sweet update! 😃👍

    Exactly !

  • Fingers crossed that the next update includes panning options!

  • @Paulo164 said:
And the corresponding presets to load in Nambu, for those interested.

Hell yea, not sure how I missed this thanks!

That didn't sound like it was very feasible based on earlier discussions.

I believe this synth is named after the developer's favorite physicists, but in the course of searching for more Nambu videos on YouTube, I learned Nambu is also the name of a style of WWII Japanese pistol. Who knew?

I believe All Iceworks synths are named after famous scientist

  • Soooooo, for those of you who bought this, what’s the final verdict? This is the only app by IceWorks that I haven’t bought yet, I have a few FM synths but don’t find tweeting or making presets frequency modulation as easy as I do other types of synthesis. If I hear a sound in my head I pretty much know how to get there, for me with FM synths it’s kinda just a guessing game and let’s see what happens lol. Should I still get this or am I good with KQ Dixie and NFM?

This is a mix of fm and other synthesis styles, and is very flexible.

    6 Operator Types

    • FM Operator

    • Noise Operator + AM

    • Oscillator Operator(Analog synthesizer style oscillator) + AM

    • Texture Operator + AM

    • Filter Operator

    • Resonator Operator

    Plus the matrix etc

It's well worth getting. The presets aren't the best but it's genuinely not that hard to make your own very interesting sounds. Give it a go!

This brings more to the FM party. It's basically the opsix for iOS, so definitely worth getting. It's also the best designed icegear synth, even better than Lagrange. Even though they are all awesome. The interface is easy to use, but yes designing sounds is definitely not as easy as subtractive VAs. But get it to enjoy the ride.

Once Spidericemidas’ presets arrive, the developer should make a deal to incorporate them into his app.

Totally agree, whether as iap or just throwing them in for free is up to @Spidericemidas

Oh, can't believe I missed this but buried underneath the factory presets, there is a Templates folder with a bunch of sound types including those for subtractive sounds. Makes the starting point so much easier. The templates should be outside of the Factory folder, because these are great.

Yes, I found those after I seriously reviewed all of the presets.

  • Feels like they are recent addition, because I don't recall seeing those earlier.

You're right. Looks like the developer added those about a month ago in version 1.0.4.

I think it's IceWorks' best and most versatile synth.
Forget about the FM side of it if you're not confident. That's just a small part of what it can actually do.
Think of it as a 6 layer hybrid beast, and approach it as a modular system.
Build and route whatever you like using the matrix.
You can build some great subtractive setups with a couple of filters.
You can mix it up with some FM and subtractive.
    Throw in some textures.
Send a portion of it through the resonator.
There is incredible flexibility and scope for complex sound design.

E.g. You could make one patch which starts with a bell sound from 2 ops FM style. Accompanied by a sweeping pad using 2 OSC sources routed into a filter subtractive style on another op slot. That still leaves you with 1 op to add some sparkle or tinkling from a texture source.

You don't have to use the matrix only for producing FM sounds, you can simply use it as a mixer for 6 sound sources. Or a combination!

It's ridiculous what you can do with it!

There's so many lovely sweet spots to be found in the sound sources because you can twist and shape the standard waveforms beyond their normal shapes.

I'd liken some of the results as similar to what you could find or make on a D50 or a Wavestation.

  • ^^^ 👍 ^^^

  • thanks for this, mate! Time to revisit the Nambu! Never clicked with me. I deeply hope some some nice presets down the road of this synth :)

@Spidericemidas any eta on that preset pack I’m sure many have been eagerly anticipating? Not to rush you, just curious.

@Strizbiz its a really nice synth, not a ton of presets but enough. Sounds great, and is unique. I think the more one knows about sound design the more you will love this synth. I think Sound of Israel has a preset pack for sale on Gumroad and as mentioned above @Spidericemidas is working on a free bank too. Cheers!

Well, I set a target of 50 and I'm at 45. There's a couple I might replace though. Then I have to go through them all and give them names! 😆

  • not sure if it was already mentioned, here's a preset pack from DMT CYMATICS:

It was mediocre, but worth the 4 bucks. At least to give me some stuff to play wit until Spidey Or Rick Yot drops the trill hotness

  • Did anyone miss the new Nambu bank by @Spidericemidas ? See: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/40738/ask-the-artist-spidericemidas#latest

I don’t have Nambu, but know that a lot of people where waiting for this, but it might have slipped under the rader?

Yes, it completely slipped under the radar for me. Thanks !
