sorry. should have said ChowTape in the feedback loop of a digital delay, like Drambo's delay rack or using feedback in AUM. ChowTape is such a flexible tape emulation this could get close to the sound of a real tape delay. i've done this sort of thing on a pc with good results.
You can resize the window and then it snaps to the frontside view without the top.
Fully agree
Good to know - would still be nice to have those at smaller sizes
As some one who thinks the Echorec is one of the most aesthetically beautiful pieces of music equipment ever made I for one appreciate looking at it spinning away, especially as I’ll never be able to afford to own one given how insanely expensive they are these days! I’d love it if GSI did a Roland Space Echo emulation next![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
They did the Space Echo about a decade ago as VST![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
If they port it, may depend on the success of this unit in IOS eko-land...
I have sent them a request email about the Roland Space Echo, who knows..
Just checked - maybe a misunderstanding here. There’s no way, even in full size view in AUM, that you can see the knobs in the edit panel along with the main interface, which was what was being asked for by the person you replied to.
That's right: I was suggesting a way to put all of the knobs, which are currently spread across two screens (EDIT and SETTINGS), on one screen.
This isn't a dogma with me: I like skeuomorphism; I really like the old Binson typeface that's been used here. I just think it would be easier to dial in a sound if you didn't have to flip between panels.
I was replying to @Slush who said: You can resize the window and then it snaps to the frontside view without the top. Again, maybe some miscommunication here. I agree with you - all important knobs on one screen at all times would be ideal.
My bad, right, so all the knobs in one view instead of the lid graphic. I’m with @ghost_forests that I love the aesthetics of this machine, but maybe it’s better to do it the way Auditory does it (see image) with their ECHOES T7E MKII (Mac/Win), which has a slight less tilted view without the lid, so there will be enough space for the setting knobs. And still an eye candy to look at![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
(Yesterday I send an email request with a suggestion for a future update to add an option for the T7 unit version, so that you can switch between the T5 (the version we have now) and the T7 unit with more options).
That GUI is confusing, but they don‘t seem to have much knowledge about the units they „emulate“ anyway. Their (much applauded) UM232 is just a faint attempt...![>:) >:)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/naughty.png)
scnr
I’m all iOS now, but that UM232 seems a very interesting unit, I had no idea it even exists.. I can’t judge the emulation quality but I hope we see more of these vintage delay remakes for the mobiles. I’m happy we now have a very nice Echorec!
oops, bad typo it‘s UM 282, for Ursa Major Spacestation SST282, one of the very first digital reverb units.
There has been a version for Pro Tools (iirc Princeton did it for Eventide) and probably the same code was used in a SST206 desktop unit. Reverb has a couple of them in the 4k range atm, the 206 way overpriced.
https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=ursa major
It‘s based on an FDN algorithm (feedback delay network), and while the basics are well documented, some details have never been revealed.
Sean Costello (Valhalla DSP) mentions in his blog he miserably failed on it...
A couple of years ago Relab released a 50% version for Sharc DSPs that covers the delay part, but leaves out reverb. It still can do magic on vocals, one of the best delays I ever attended.
Bottom line: it takes serious expertise to emulate such units, more than a front panel pic and a Pure Data patch.

ps: I‘m also enjoying the Echo B2
Very promising reply from the developer about my request for porting their Roland Space Echo VST to iOS:
“We have many plans for the future, including the porting of GS-201 Mark II to iOS.”
That would be fantastic!
Hell yeah
I'm hugely enjoying this. That's why my video is delayed. Coming up with so many interesting examples of it in use.
Looking forward to your video.
I use it for Dub Techno, it’s just great for creating those minimal dubby chord delays. Anything dub will do. It has its own character that sets it apart.
Definitely dubby stuff hit my mind first. I don’t do much in that domain but was a big fan in my early 20’s. This is certainly great fun on drums and percussion, but also on drones etc. Slowing the ‘drum’ in the app helps with getting the right delay rhythm, even if it takes some experimentation
I’ve owned a valve and solid state Binson. Used them quite extensively. I still use tape echo on occasion, though not disc/drum wire echo ( it sounds different than tape ), it’s a valve swissecho by uniton ag.
Based on my memory of the hardware valve Binson echorec sound, the ECHO B2 is quite accurate. Hardware Binson’s can all sound a little different depending on how well they’re functioning./how well they’re restored.
I’ve used the ERS echorec emulation on the desktop, as well as the recent iOS version that ddmf took over for Harrie ( ERS ). The ERS/ddmf version is very good as well, though fiddly. The main issue is the warble. I’m assuming the Binson echorec that ERS/Harrie was using for measurements/scoping/modelling had an idler wheel with some issues. The rubber idler wheel can become misshapen if left engaged while not running. The rubber idler wheel can also break down/harden. It required regular cleaning with rubber cleaner conditioner.
Anyway, the ERS/ddmf version is worth having as well. it sounds a little different. I wish you could turn off the warble, but I also like warble/imperfections. The ECHO B2 is more accurate to my ear, and no warble. Both preamp emulations are useful.
@BroCoast the Klemt echolette S ng51? They sound lovely when overdriven! Maybe you could emulate the preamp stage with the SGA Phoenix? 2 or 3 12ax7’s in series?
Will finally have a vid up on this baby with a super nice giveaway, at 3.30pm UK time, 10.30pm New York time (1.5 hours from now. Will do it as a premiere, come join the live chat if you're free. This thing sounds damn good. Haven't heard anyone mention it yet, but it can also self-oscillate, and I will demo that in the video, walk through the controls as well as do demos on synths and drums. 👍
It is fantastic, fully agree. And great to hear it from you because I know from former posts that you don't give praise lightly.
Fantastic Blathering, much appreciated. (Incidentally, isn’t “ Fantastic Blathering” the best band name?)
Daveypoo & The Fantastic Blatherers... 🤔
A bit late to the party but I have a question. I am already on the fence to get their Varispeed app because like all of you guys, I am a sucker for vintage delays and this copikat seem to sound very good. BTW, anybody knows how it compares to the Lofionic Duplicat app available for quite some time (which I own and like too)
Anyway I just saw the announcement that GSi will release very soon their Roland Space Echo and their spring reverb and these two will be no brainer because, first, as I said earlier, I am a sucker for vintage delays and reverbs just like you, and second because if @Telefunky says these apps sound good on desktop, it means they DO sound very very very good (god I trust this guy's ears!😀).
So ... Drumroll.... the question is, can I pass on the GSi Echorek if I already own the DDMF Echorek2 ? I love the sound I get from the DDMF app but I suspect these 2 apps might sound very similar, even though they are emulations from different models. Or do you vintage delays diehard fans will tell me to empty my already almost empty pockets and get it anyway, because " you know it is a f.... good vintage Echorek emulation and if you claim to like vintage delay man, you should get it anyway."
This post sounds strange, but I am going to post it anyway, sorry. And no, I am neither drunk nor high on any kind of prohibited substances as I am writing, it is just that I am highly excited by all those delays coming lately on iOS and that my music nerdy brain secreted way too much endorphins.
"Hi everyone, my name is Jean, I am an appoholic" 🥺
I don't have either of those - DDMF or Duplicat. Definitely the GSi B2 and VariSpeed both sound great, and sound different. Do u need both, obviously not. Will you buy both, probably grin 😁
In the meantime I just wanted to post this interesting documentary about the Echorec.![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/hWxirGNeBvc/0.jpg)
Gavin, you're not helping my addiction at all. In fact, if we ever meet in China or Japan, you will have to treat me in a very fancy restaurant, your tutorials cost me a lot of 💰 😉. Very cool video, thank you for posting.
