  • No iPhone mini? Hah! I’m satisfied with my mini 12 (the height of which fits across the width of my relatively new iPad mini 6)

  • The criticism I have with iphone cameras and phone cameras in general is they’ve all gone crazy with wide-angle, super-wide angle and stupidly-impossible ultra-wide fields of view, but really what I want is a standard lens field of view.

I went through my Flickr photos which goes back to about 1979, and found that the majority of the shots I’ve taken and that I particularly like are shot with a 45mm or 50mm lens (in 135 film camera terms, usually actually shot on one).

A phone camera that had the main camera as a standard 45mm or 50mm equiv lens would be excellent. If it includes wide and wider ones, just make those the lesser cameras, the main one with the best sensor should be a 50mm lens field of view.

  • Spoiler alert: they said at the beginning they would be talking about Watch, iPhone, AirPods. Thats it…

Probably no Mac or iPad announcement today

  • Apple Helicopter - that’s nice

    Probably expensive though

  • That dynamic island is absolutely brilliant - excellent way of hiding the front cam blob. Very clever work

  • Agreed on the 50mm equivalent lens, especially for portraits

    I'd prefer a 85-105mm for portraits with ~f/2 lens.
But yeah, I've been shooting full-frame DSLR for too long...

    £800 for a watch.

With all due respect a new, low cost Rolex is $7000 and only tells time 😂

Not to mention the Apple Watch has saved many people’s lives with the heart rate monitor and more: https://screenrant.com/lives-apple-watch-saved-how-many/

Now added, fun for many of us sound explorers - field recording!

  • oh man, the pro model with 128 (base model) is here in Germany 1300€ wow.
the 256 GB Model even 1430.

insane but bold move when considering most people on earth are struggling to pay the most basic things (energy and stuff)

No way. I met a guy on the street downtown just last week that had them for $50.

That’s ridiculous. Just checked the prices, totally insane. This trend should be stopped. Customers should wake up and stop spending thousandish USD or EUR for a f…ing phone…
    This made me so upset.

  • especially since the prices are the same as last year. Euro is breaking apart and apple cashes in ;)
I am out. simply cannot afford it. its a phone with a nice camera but my line was drawn at max 1200 (for a 256 base model and this is insane; stupid apple fanboy me)

  • I'd consider paying it if they removed the phone part of it.

  • Everything was boring except from that Ultra watch which I must get ASAP 😢

Apple makes high end products which are resistant to economic ups and downs. When you sell to a consumer market which has money, they can spend that money at any time. This has always been the case.

  • I'm fine not being in Apple's ecosystem for phones. I see no reason to pay more than $400 max for a phone and absolutely no reason to upgrade every year. Get Motorola phone with a case and it'll last you years.

I was hoping for something new on the iPad end of things, but yes, that Apple Watch Ultra was pretty nice.

I know. I've got a series 5 Apple Watch. Just the thought of shelling out £800 for the updated version.

With phone cameras delivering better and better resolution, I would vote for wider angle lenses like Apple did.
    Same in DSLRs:
My current 24MP cam with 90mm macro & telephoto lens has made my previous 12MP with 200mm lens obsolete. And resolution gets even better when I'm using an AI based raw developer, especially at high ISOs.

  • just wait until they start the subscription model for hardware usage of products you "own".

i think they are starting sometime in the next year or two...

I noticed they showed no nighttime photography, only some examples of low light. Anyone ever try to take a shot of the Moon with their iPhone? The contrast blows out the image. Even when I try to shoot the Moon during dusk, it looks terrible.

But in other low light situations and with a longer exposure, sometimes I get some pretty decent shots (such as cityscapes).

Moon shots are challenging. A typical case of HDR - one shot of the scenery and one with much reduced sensitivity for the moon, then merge the shots.
On a phone, it's probably easier to stick a nice moon from elsewhere into the pic 😄

Dont even care about the terrorism, getting mugged or shot over costume jewelry seems a bit of an avoidable situation.

  • This must be the smallest thread ever here after an Apple product release.

😂 I feel like it takes a lot to get us excited these days

  • I completely forgot about the Apple event to be honest. I just wanna know if the regular non-pro iPhone 14 was announced and what its battery life is like without having to sift through one of their boring presentations that takes too long to announce some simple features. 🤣

I'm definitely going to be in the market for a new iPhone since my SE 2's battery life is so-so. (I need more reliable battery life.)

  • It looks like about an extra hour of battery live over the 13 models, depending on which ones you are comparing:

    https://www.macrumors.com/2022/09/07/iphone-14-battery-life/

Not worth the extra $100 in price on the base 14, so I’ll be happy with a 13…
