I didn’t have a “punch up”. That person first made personal insults against an American lawyer (not the sort of thing you’d want to do on a public forum, but there you go), then directed them at me, so I flagged it. The one I think you’re questioning could be about 30 nautical if memory serves, but as in a lot of cases they can’t lock on to targets, so as to determine a specific distance, which if the object is ‘jamming’ lock on, within protocol itself can be construed an act of hostility, maybe even war.
Regardless of where they are from, we have to work out where we are going, do we really need the Wizard of Oz to give us the solution when all along we’ve known we are the solution to our own problem?
This is what troubles me about a lot of the narratives around all this. Not only does it suggest we are inferior in some way, but opens the question of where they would get such superior knowledge from. It really supports the current direction we’re taking of infinite growth, and is certainly a distraction from our actual problems. The won’t be solved by an injection of extra knowledge from outside, but a proper acknowledgement of our place in the universe and how we deal with that will…
