Awesome - can't wait to try these out!

Sweet! I hope they give you some ideas for a richardyot bank. Nambu deserves your attention and sound design skills.

Although Nambu is advertised as a 6 Op FM synth, you don't actually have to do any FM with it at all if that's not your thing.
The matrix also acts as a mixer and a modular environment for routing and modulating 6 things in any way you like! When you realise that, you realise that almost anything is possible!!

Sadly I don't have time to concentrate on creating banks right now, I'd rather use my spare time to make actual music. I'm sure I'll get back on to making sounds again at some point though.

Anyway I had a play with these presets and they're great, some of your best yet. Really beautiful sounds that are musical the moment you start playing them.

Yeah it is quite a time consuming thing. I've got a number of music sketches which I keep saying to myself that I'll get them finished next....but then along comes another new synth to design for! 😅

They were fun to make. Nambu is so good to work with, quite relaxing and absorbing. Cheers!

Yes, yes! Incredibly detailed patches and so inspiring to play. Can’t get enough of Fallen Angel and Cosmic Rain. Thanks so much!

Thanks very much! Nambu is definitely bringing me a lot closer to finally being able to create my ideal sounds and the sounds I've had in my mind for a long time.

I hope you'll be able to drop a Nambu bank at some point in the future. Love your Addstation work!

  • Awesome...as always...

  • These presets are absolutely amazing! These really do truly make the synth. Well done. I put together a really quick demo of only 5 patches in less than 5 minutes using some generative apps and have to say without your patches @Spidericemidas it would be nothing. Thanks again. What a week for iOS music apps!

Thanks for posting this! Loving it! A really nice demo! Cheers! 😎👍

This is so good. I really like the sequence coming from Progressions. ZOA is a favourite. Reminds me, I also still need to get that Euclidean sequencer from Paul. Lovely demo, thanks again!

Thank you Spider. Going through them now….beautiful.

Thanks for checking them out. Nambu is doing quite well now for user presets. There's the DMT and SOI banks available too. Should be a much improved selection of sounds in Nambu's library to play with now between those three contributions. I hope other designers will follow suit.

    Thanks for the patches Spider!

I have made a few of my own and I agree - the possibilities really boggle your mind with Nambu. The stuff I’ve made sounds a bit thin and “FM-ey” whether it has FM in it or not. Looking forward to dissecting what you’ve created here!

Yes! If there's a sound in there you really like, have a good session of reverse engineering with it!
Nambu can be made to sound very rich, deep and weighty. It does have plenty of bottom end on offer. In fact, on a few of the patches, I had to use the on-board EQ to tame some of the bass! 😯😎

  • @Spidericemidas "tame the bass" should be a preset name :)
thanks for ANOTHER beautiful bunch of presets.

  • Thank you @Spidericemidas As always for these glimpses into your psyche so that we can ride the cosmic wave you have given us all access to:

  • They are really amazing Spider, thank you so much for this generous gift!!
I think you’ve mentioned the D50 before, I love that synth and feel the same vibe in your patches 😍

I still wouldn't say no to a D50, but at least Nambu can get me close enough and has cured my gas for one! 🤣
Will definitely make more presets for Nambu in the future. A hard one to resist! Loads more possibilities to explore. It's the most ideal and suitable synth on iOS for making the types of hybrid sounds I really want to make! 🤤😍

Oh, my. These are amazing. Thanks so much, Spider.

“Chrysanthemum Fountain” sounds like Vangelis distilled into a single patch. Wow.

That patch is fantastic. Big up @Spidericemidas very inspiring sounds and beautiful sonic journeys ahead

That's one of my better and favourite patches from this exercise. It's the kind of sound I've wanted to make for a long time, but has not been possible for me on iOS until Nambu arrived. I think with some further time and digging, Nambu could get you pretty close to sounds like a D50 or Wavestation.

In fact, it delighted Satoshi no end when I mentioned to him that shortly before Nambu appeared, I was in the market for a D50. But after having an initial dabble with Nambu, I realised it could be possible to get some way towards D50 type sounds and beyond. So Nambu cured my gas for a D50 and a Wavestation! 🤣

Funnily enough the first patch I paused on, the opening notes of bladerunner spontaneously played under my fingers 😅

  • These sounds great @Spidericemidas
    Right up my street 👏👌👍

Thanks! No doubt I will take what I learned from this first excursion, and make another Nambu pack in future. It's too good to resist!

Yeah I noticed quite a few Vangelis-esque vibes amongst the patches.

I think my favourite so far is "Apollo" with that lovely chiptune-esque shimmery glissando. It's an effect I've tried unsuccessfully to create in other synths, so delighted to hear you've pulled it off so well ... ever since I heard it in the game FEZ and in the music of Borealism (wind to about 40-50 sec) I've wanted to be able to recreate it. :#

@craftycurate That sound is just a sine wave with a squarewave LFO on the Course tuning. The LFO phase is slightly offset, the LFO amount is at Max, and the LFO send is at Max. I think I offset the LFO phase slightly to reduce some popping or cracking from the harshness of the squarewave effect. The AMP env trails off pretty quickly to nothing so as not to clutter and overpower the pad and other tinkles that roll in shortly after.

How do you start on designing a sound? Do you know before you start what you’re going for, or see where your creativity takes you?

  • @gregsmith "How do you start on designing a sound? Do you know before you start what you’re going for, or see where your creativity takes you?"

Most of the time, I know what I want before I start. But sometimes I will get sidetracked along the way which results in something slightly or even wildly different to what I originally intended.

Like when making a filtered pad to accompany something. I might intend for it to be a bright sound, but then while tweaking the filter, I may find it also sounds cool at more closed filter settings, which may then give me another idea for a mellow patch and lead me down a totally different path. Whenever that happens, I save the patch at that point as a copy. I then follow the new path to wherever it leads. And then I go back to the previous saved copy and finish what I originally intended it to be! 🤣

I suspect that happens a lot for others too.
