Oh, my. These are amazing. Thanks so much, Spider.

“Chrysanthemum Fountain” sounds like Vangelis distilled into a single patch. Wow.

That patch is fantastic. Big up @Spidericemidas very inspiring sounds and beautiful sonic journeys ahead

That's one of my better and favourite patches from this exercise. It's the kind of sound I've wanted to make for a long time, but has not been possible for me on iOS until Nambu arrived. I think with some further time and digging, Nambu could get you pretty close to sounds like a D50 or Wavestation.

In fact, it delighted Satoshi no end when I mentioned to him that shortly before Nambu appeared, I was in the market for a D50. But after having an initial dabble with Nambu, I realised it could be possible to get some way towards D50 type sounds and beyond. So Nambu cured my gas for a D50 and a Wavestation! 🤣

Yeah I noticed quite a few Vangelis-esque vibes amongst the patches.

I think my favourite so far is "Apollo" with that lovely chiptune-esque shimmery glissando. It's an effect I've tried unsuccessfully to create in other synths, so delighted to hear you've pulled it off so well ... ever since I heard it in the game FEZ and in the music of Borealism (wind to about 40-50 sec) I've wanted to be able to recreate it. :#

@craftycurate That sound is just a sine wave with a squarewave LFO on the Course tuning. The LFO phase is slightly offset, the LFO amount is at Max, and the LFO send is at Max. I think I offset the LFO phase slightly to reduce some popping or cracking from the harshness of the squarewave effect. The AMP env trails off pretty quickly to nothing so as not to clutter and overpower the pad and other tinkles that roll in shortly after.

    Great thanks - I'll take a look!

Just wow, @Spidericemidas! Just went through the presets, they are awesome, thank you!

    Cool, thanks! 😃👍

  • Soooooo. I heard all kinds of great things about the @Spidericemidas Nambu presents, but was awaiting a Nambu sale.

Well, it wasn’t as good a deal as the previous sale, so I was disappointed.

Then I read this thread again and said screw it and bought Nambu anyway — just like I purchase any synth I don’t already own simply because Mr. Midas created patches for it. 🤗

Well, these presets are so incredible that I’m now kicking myself for not just paying the full Nambu asking price to begin with.

You are the true synth patch design master, and we are not worthy. 😉

Thank you so much for your musically advanced contributions.

  • @SNystrom, thanks for your comment. I also saw the sale, but this synth had lots of hype I was waiting to hear some positive things about it during this sale. Without a doubt @Spidericemidas is amazing!

  • I totally love the synth, and I haven’t even gotten past the @Spidericemidas presets!

He truly is the gold standard for incredible synth sound!

  • Looks like I forgot to link Doug's lovely demo of the presets here.

    Cheers!
Nambu is my kind of synth. Love its hybrid and versatile approach to sound design.
Glad you went for it in the end. It's definitely one of the special ones on iOS!
I'll be having a go at more presets for it in the future.

Comparing your Presets to the Factory preset prove that @Spidericemidas is the synth whisper.

It seems some code up powerful synths but they need someone to tame them for public riding.

    “Bring in the Synth Whsiperer.”
    “Yes, your majesty.”

@Spidericemidas and Ice Gear… guess it’s something in the ice, because you’ve done it again. You bring these synths to life!

I do enjoy the Icegear synths a lot. Nambu is just brilliant.

  • @Jefe0820 It's good to see Nambu picking up some much deserved love now. I think there's a few other packs out there for it. I know Sam Izrael got some gems for it in his earlier pack. Hopefully we'll see more coming out for it in future.

I tried to just open it and share it to Nambu, can’t get this preset bank to show up. Not sure if it’s a bug or I’m not doing something right. Should they work like other presets? Usually I just either open them or share them with the app…

@gregsmith "How do you start on designing a sound? Do you know before you start what you’re going for, or see where your creativity takes you?"

Most of the time, I know what I want before I start. But sometimes I will get sidetracked along the way which results in something slightly or even wildly different to what I originally intended.

Like when making a filtered pad to accompany something. I might intend for it to be a bright sound, but then while tweaking the filter, I may find it also sounds cool at more closed filter settings, which may then give me another idea for a mellow patch and lead me down a totally different path. Whenever that happens, I save the patch at that point as a copy. I then follow the new path to wherever it leads. And then I go back to the previous saved copy and finish what I originally intended it to be! 🤣

I suspect that happens a lot for others too.

Wonderful to get an insight into your sound design process @Spidericemidas.

Yeah, the Icegear import method is the same on all their synths and usually very solid and reliable. Should just work by clicking on the link, and from the three dots menu it's usually "open in" "share to" or "export". If Nambu doesn't show up, try selecting "more".

Yeah I tried that and just opening the file into Nambu. Didn’t work. I bought another preset pack for Nambu and it worked fine. If I remember right I just opened the file.

I just tested it with the link in the thread and it works fine for me. It opens a Dropbox link where I select the three dots menu and choose “Export”. Nambu then shows up in the little list of options as “Copy to Nambu”.

Yep that worked! Didn’t have the Dropbox app, was just using my browser. Installed other presets from Dropbox the above ways. Haven’t installed very many so I didn’t know I had to export it like that. Thank you!!! Sounds amazing so far!! Great work! Love your stuff!

  • These are so, so good. What a pleasure to play them, and what a synth we have here in Nambu. I mean good grief… wow!
