I don't feel constantly bombarded here
Not sure there is really a problem with that here? I mean people post their own music in the Creations category, but that's kind of what it's for. Other than that there are the YouTubers, but their content is generally worthwhile.
There is maybe one person I can think of who does what you might call self-promotion, but they're easy enough to ignore![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I don’t feel like this has been a problem here.
I honestly don't recall any self-promotion happening here @Burner . Could you provide us with some examples?![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
.
I mean, I personally LIKE when people post a link to their SoundCloud or Bandcamp then hang out to discuss the creative process. And the YouTube cats around here are typically quite dedicated and thoughtful; I’ve subscribed to most of the regular posters because they’re good at what they do, and since this is the “central hub” for mobile musicking, it’s an important venue for finding their audience.
I definitely agree that the home page can fill up with more original music than I care to listen to, but given how often I stumble across something genuinely good, I’m happy to scroll a little more when I can’t bear to listen to another “Feverish Pony Take 17 — NS2 | Patterning | Animoog”
Edit: praying that I didn’t post an actual name of someone’s actual song — I promise that this wasn’t meant to be a dig at anyone in particular!
I don’t see the problem. I’ve seen a lot of toxic rubbish spewed at YouTubers who’ve done way more for iOS/mobile musicians than the people complaining, who could, of course, just put an ignore on the posters that rile them up so unnecessarily.
I for one am seriously indebted to the YouTubers who’ve helped me find my musical way through demos, reviews, tutorials etc, and I’m glad they post here in the teeth of such hostility from what I sincerely hope is a minority of forum members.
Similarly, I’ve been amazed by the quality of work posted in the Creations category, and I regret the fact that often I don’t have time to check all of the posts out.
It’s not entirely clear what you are referring when you write about self promotion, but my assumption is that it’s either YouTubers or music creators, and I’m glad they’re here.
Just ignore anyone that bugs you. Simples…
I know what you're talking about, and yeah it can get a little annoying. There's only a handful of people who can't post their music in the right forum, or only stop by to drop their latest YouTube link though. Easy enough to ignore or hide, but still too bad they can't seem to figure it out like the rest of us did.
What’s promotion? Someone showing off a track? Someone letting know they released an app? Someone letting you know they released a YouTube video? Someone telling you they just updated an app?
If someone has items they promote, are they allowed to mingle in non-promotional sections of the forum? What if there’s a thread about an app, somebody has a question and the developer races out a new feature to meet a need? Is that promotion?
How about someone telling you they watched a YouTube video someone else created and it was great. Is that promotion too? What if they happen to know the creator? How well do they need to know them?
Looking forward to having all my questions answered. ❤️😄
There are all sorts of people in this world doing things for all sorts of different motivations. I have my suspicions occasionally about the motivations of some people, but it's a big wide world and a long as someone is not causing harm by their actions I can live with it. Thankfully we all have the choice as to who we pay attention to. If you find someone particularly annoying there is the ignore function in your profile which can help in removing that individual from your immediate gaze which I have found useful in the past when I have let someone get under my skin. But, it's really my problem if that happens and so I deal with it appropriately and move on....this is still a great site to visit and to interact with the people here.
i vote yes on this completely. it also gets to the point where i feel a little tricked by some of the titles people put for their songs thinking its gonna be a cool app or something but its just a soundcloud link![:/ :/](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/confused.png)
I personally think it’s better to just discuss with someone directly if they have likely overstepped some mark. That’s what I did with the person I’m pretty sure is the one who triggered your post on this today. That person took it well. As others have mentioned, things like YouTube videos are very useful tools and most people are happy to have them appear in general app discussion. You could always do a poll on it, but in the end I think Michael would have the final say.
Again, when it comes to people using clickbaity or misleading titles for their creations, just call them out either in the thread or by email as appropriate. I think a bit of unnecessary drama is being created here, not that there’s no validity to the post, but drama - frankly - is usually the most annoying thing about this forum
Ps Burner, u have 56 comments in this forum, a large majority or which revolve around this topic or your posts yesterday / today depending on timezone regarding the posts that annoyed you. Again I think you had a valid point to make but I am less sure your words will carry a lot of weight when it comes to jumping right in and telling people how the forum should be run
+1.
And that’s not necessarily as uncomfortable for others as it is for you.
Personally, my way of enjoying the forum is to browse the general discussion, ignore a lot and latch on the the few threads that consistently interest me.
Every forum goes through cycles where the ratios between interesting, not interesting and annoying vary. A few weeks later things shift around again. 20 years down the road you can still usually recall the post that annoyed you the most and the one that resonated with you the most.
To be honest, the only reason I’m joining in this particular discussion is that the 20 year old post from a totally unrelated forum that annoyed me the most was from someone seeking more rigidity in forum dynamics. It was not a good thing, and killed the group vibe way more than the promotions I don’t care about guys ever did.
I just find it way easier to scroll past stuff I don’t want to read, than to monitor rigid categories for items of interest while threads bulk up with discussion of whether something is off topic.
I could see how it could get annoying if someone is borderline spamming with yt embeds in a thread not originally intended to be a showcase but I think the easy ability to scroll past them overrules going through the trouble to be more….compartmental
Amen.... I ignore tons of stuff here and it takes seconds and is no big deal
Good, no big loss there
