It’s quite strange, but each price in the AppStore is 2 or more euro higher (i.e. Germany) than the given dollar price here. That”s deprimierend.

One obvious point is that euro prices include VAT, which dollar prices do not.

Not the end of the world but the American concept of the price tag ("we'll put a number here that is patently NOT the price that you have to pay") is just silly, isn't it. 🙂

Different states tax at different percentages.

@ervin it is. It gets annoying. But it’s not arbitrary, it’s a sales tactic. People are drawn to pricing with certain numbers and see something as cheaper if it says 4.99 and not 5.

Well, they can do the same in UK pounds and euros etc. all over the world, so there's no need for before-tax price display to use the .99 trick.

I would just call it cheating instead, except locals are of course prepared for it, so it probably doesn't qualify as cheating. I guess the biggest effect is just making the whole thing much less convenient than it could be. Which is strange because America is mostly about making things more, not less, comfortable for the consumer. 🙂

True, yea i calculate my % when I buy something or the little screen shows me. Lol.
I also agree with the convenience of the pricing. I would love if more things rounded up to an even amount for convenience. Yea not cheating, but sales, psychology… heck. economics, taxes, government, and laws.

On a tangent… Dude every time I see your profile pic it reminds me of a great friend, roommate, and drummer from my college band. You look a lot like him. He’s no longer with us, but I have many fond memories of him.

    Edit
I originally misunderstood your comment @ervin i apologize. Let me try again. Lol. I decided to delete the old one. without getting to political/economic. It can, but it can work both ways.

    To quote @White
    “JAX Compander https://apps.apple.com/app/id1619225672

Notice: Currently a 14 days introduction price (of approx. 50%) is active, for all early adopters.”

Heads up: This was released at least 2 days ago so looking at 11-12 more days max.

They say everyone has their alterego somewhere in the world. I wasn't aware of mine. So far.

I didn't even see it, so smooth move mate, no harm done etc. All cool. I don't think our positions on this are far from each other tbh. As we were, I guess. 🤝

@ervin it is. It gets annoying. But it’s not arbitrary, it’s a sales tactic. Pricing is another aspect of Sales/Consumer Psychology. People are drawn to pricing with certain numbers, like the .99, or .49 and see something as cheaper if it says 4.99 and not 5.00. Sure it’s a penny cheaper, but the perception of value is greater then the single penny is worth. when you buy gas the sign says ie $2.57, but it really costs $2.57989 or whatever. People also respond better to pricing that is descending. So for example if you bought something expensive you might be presented with a price like $8,643, and not $8,689. One is less, but it also looks more appealing.

@anickt That factors in too, although at least in my country/state, the taxes aren’t shown at all until they are deducted, along with the app price shown from your apple account. Taxes are vastly complex, and vary a lot. In my state there are taxes on most items and services but not food or groceries. Unless its something cooked or prepared like at a restaurant, or a rotisserie chicken. So states can vary how much, and where taxes are applied. A state like Delaware has no sales tax at all.

Edit - right before Thumb print or Face ID it make say plus taxes or something like that but it does not show the actual amount of taxes that will be deducted. I guess most things don’t though, they just say plus tax. Lol, who wants to be reminded of how much in taxes they have to pay before a purchase, lol. I’m not talking about the value of taxes, just the fact that displaying that amount would most likely discourage sales.

jason and @anickt its not the VAT, apple increase the prices. Before 2022 there was the option to buy applestore card once in a quarter for 20% more value. You buy a 100€ card and get 20€ extra on your account. Now its nothing. Since this time ive bought nothing in appstore. Its 40% more.

@headmademusic i know. It sucks. They’ve done away with all apple gift card promotions and deals around the holidays. The best you get now is a $15 or $20 extra gift card to the store you bought it from, ie Best Buy, Target. I haven’t even seen the App Store 10% bonus in a long time. Where you load money and they give you 10% more. I use reward programs and points to get gift cards. Like Fetch, Ibotta, but even Fetch has recently raised the amount of points some gift cards, including Apple, cost. It was 10,000 points for years. In 2023 changed to 12,000.

How many will realistically buy these plugs at full price? Genuinely curious.
