This is why I keep on top of this excellent thread and support @Poppadocrock’s Patreon. I picked up Grand Finale 2 for $6. I just used it on some finished work and it improved the results with very little effort. It also offered the “export” results as aif, wav or mp4 and bit-depth of 16 or 32 bit.

I especially like the stereo width control since “bigger is better” but with app purchasing “lower is best”.

It's still 14.99, which is 7 dollars off the usual price, I guess you misread Poppa's post. Weirdly, I made the same mistake when I first skimmed it

  • Since it’s on sale, what’s the consensus on Chameleon? I have nearly every sampler on the App Store except this one. Does it offer anything new or is it kinda similar to AudioLayer?

I found Chameleon very intuitive to record my guitar plucks using iPad mic. Didn’t have to read the manual and I thought I would struggle. AudioLayer just confused me. features, it has pads, simple effects, stand-alone, more of a workhorse imo

  • I like chameleon, particularly for taking one shots of different notes from an instrument or Synth, and placing them across the keyboard to create a sampled playable instrument. I have a bunch of free synth packs and paid synth sample packs that I made instruments for in chameleon. Reverb.com has several free synth series packs of famous synthesizers that will come in handy if you do. TBH I don’t use it as much as I did for the first couple years after release, but still go back to it.

Wow, I like this a lot.

  • @HeavyWater @Poppadocrock

Thanks! Seems like it’s a lot easier to make samples instruments with Chameleon than AudioLayer so I might grab it while it’s on sale. AudioLayer is not very intuitive at all for me.

I was going to compare it to Audiolayer in my comment but didn’t for some reason. It’s like a simpler, but not as deep version of AL. AL can sample multiple velocities, of every single note across the entire keyboard, where Chameleon is limited to 16 samples per instrument, so I usually use a note every 3-4 semitones, across 3-4 octaves or so, or whatever, depending what samples I have. It’s kind of hard to compare them since there are many differences, but in a general sense it is a more basic version of AL.

Edit. I mostly use AL for presets and patches I found online. In chameleon I’ve built a bunch of patches. If you are familiar with 4P apps you should be fine diving right in, maybe watch a video and you will be good. Cheers.
