  • AudioThing "Dials" now released with special "intro price" until March 10th, 2023.

  • mela 3
    v3.9

    Arpeggiator Module:
-Added the Retrig parameter, when enabled the arpeggiator pattern restarts on the first note-on.
-The new Sync and Offset parameters replaced Arpeggiator's Rate parameter. This aligns with how the other modules work.
-The Sync parameter allows you to set the Arpeggiator's timing in powers of 2.
-The Offset parameter allows you to make the Arpeggiator rate triplet or dotted, or anything in the 50-200% range.
-Modulate these parameters to achieve interesting results.
-Renamed the Length parameter to Gate to reduce confusion about its functionality.

    LFO Module:
-Added the Tilt parameter to the LFO module for the Triangle and Square waveforms.
-When Tilt is at -100% and +100% the Triangle morphs into the Ramp Down and Ramp Up waveform.
-For the Square, the Tilt parameter sets the pulse-width amount.
-Creatively modulate it to generate even more interesting and weird LFO shapes.

    Other MIDI Module Improvements:
-Now it's easier to set the sync’s Offset parameter to triplet and dotted values. In the following modules, Arpeggiator, LFO, Note Echo, Note Length, Random and Strummer, you can tap on the Offset parameter's label and select either the Triplet or Dotted item from the pop-up menu.
-Improved the design of MIDI modules' on/off toggle.
-Fixed Note Length module causing stuck notes when a note-off event would fall beyond the host's loop end beat position, while the looping was enabled.
-Fixed Note Echo module sometimes erroneously accumulating notes to repeat when the host has looping enabled.
-Set a maximum number (32) of notes Note Echo will track for repeating.

    MIDI Buses:
-Added MIDI Buses to the Mela MIDI plug-in.
-In addition to having external MIDI I/O now you can route MIDI messages between lanes.

    Other Changes:
-Fixed checkmarks not showing for selected items in the PopUpList on macOS.
-In Settings, the Audio Engine section now also displays which type of Mela plug-in is loaded by the host: Instrument, Audio Effect or MIDI Effect. Double tapping it will show aumu, aufx or aumi respectively.
-Improved plug-in's beat position synchronisation with the host.
    -Added new presets.
    -Updated the User Guide.

It’s a great app, especially for that price! Unfortunately no sake on the IAPs it seems.

Yea I believe that’s the new price, with the Au as an IAP.

I have been eyeing this app, but I really haven’t wanted to spend the money. Sometimes, when a sale like this comes along, my first thought is, “no, I can’t buy every app that comes along,” and then I think “man if I was to start walking around I would totally spontaneously pay two dollars for a drink or something like that.” So why not just buy it?

Interesting one. Has IAP's that don't work and are not listed in the App Store. Maybe trying to go sub, or IAP but haven't quite worked it out?

Exactly how I think about it! Imo, this one is totally worth the price. Even comes with some pretty good internal sounds so you can jam stand alone or make some good loops.

Wow I remember when this was controversial because it was so expensive £150 at launch if I recall correctly

    Yeah - I remember that. A US$299-00 launch price in 2014.

As the developer said: " Since waves are the primal source of all cyclical motion in the Universe, it makes sense to tap into them for musical purposes other than synthesizers. Not only can waves create sounds, they can play sounds too! Basically, we have discovered the “Fountain of Drumming” and we are sharing our discovery with the world! "

I'd really like to sympathize with @technemedia's early approach to pricing. First, keep in mind that Peter is clearly an upper echelon of the intersection of creativity, philosophy, mathematics, music, programming, and more specifically iOS programming. Different Drummer is clearly a well-intentioned, and ambitious vision.

Put this ambition and vision into context when Different Drummer was released in the early days of iOS.

Nobody really knew how to price anything. (For better or worse, I think that developers have become much more consistent in pricing models that work for them, whether a single price, or a subscription). And even that early, many of us were dreaming about desktop-like apps on mobile (e.g. Auria, Modstep, et. al.) Developers were trying to figure out how to price. Finally, we all were very excited about how the uniques touch interface might transform applications and experience.

Peter probably thought about all of these things, and felt like his app was the calibre of desktop apps that demanded that kind of pricing. Keep in mind, he developed the (also ambitious) QuarkXPress app, and Quark cost like a billion dollars back then.

Overtime, we all learned, even Peter. The app is an absolute steal at this price. It is deep, deep deep. I highly recommend picking it up even off sale. If you're on the fence, search Youtube for tutorials to see if you'd like it.

Oh, and check out some of his music. Cray cray!

  • Different Drummer is genius and part madness - you might have a bit of a go wrangling it but it’s so very unique and flexible.

For the sale it’s a steal
