People just don't track vocals on iPad yet... does this work on desktop? that might be a selling point...
People searching for autotune on ios will find this, it's the 6th result for me on youtube using incognito...
I will spam the first 5 videos in support of @dwrae xD
edit: done... the first two were in spanish so I hope that brings some sales your way!
With all respect, since I raised the price to $9.99, sales fell down, so I'm going to put it to what I thought it should be, which is the same price as AudioTune or perhaps a dollar higher and see what happens. The market ultimately decides the value of a product. In this case, that probably means $9.99 is way too high.
It might even have sold better when there was no trial system, but unfortunately that experiment cannot be done.
Unrelated, but what I find remarkable is that half of the people that download the app do not even start the trial (or purchase), so I guess these people have no payment option set up since I cannot think of any other reason.
Well, that's the thing. 1 out of 10 (online) magazines has published the press release and I posted it on the iPad Musician and iPad AUv3 Facebook pages. Jade Starr did a very extensive YouTube review of it. I believe 95% of the users do not watch any Facebook page or YouTube show, so search in the App Store is what matters most. Unfortunately the [auto tune] keyword for doing search ads advertising is 7 euro per TAP, not even install or IAP.
Yep…most people doing vocal stuff or actual band recording are desktop-based, I guess. And all devs need to do some marketing, whether via YouTubers or more traditional channels.
Thanks
Part of the equation with the market is marketing, so I wouldn't blame sales or lack of them, on price. We are talking about a Starbucks beverage price here lol. I would argue its current price is nearly none of the factor for sales figures. I would bet making it $0.99 wouldn't result in 50 downloads a day, or 20. It's gonna require market saturation and education (its a new product that hasn't been marketed) but all that said, I still feel it's under priced.
Nevertheless, it's your business/product and I totally understand that there's a big difference between coding a product and marketing it, just as theres a big difference between making music, and marketing it. Sometimes we like to create and not get into the world of promo etc so I understand. Do whats best for you & your business. In any case, I wish u success.
sheeeeesh
Well said. But if you’re going to be an indie dev, unless you’re basically making apps for yourself, you need to market them. Most creative people don’t enjoy the bureaucracy aspect. Do I, as a youtuber, enjoy the making thumbnails, end screens, cards, timestamps, descriptions etc that are required to make a vid that YouTube will like? Hell no. But it’s essential. The music making, the creation, the exploration is enjoyable, the rest, not, but it’s what you’ve got to do if you want to make even a few tiny beans in this terribly niche market.
Marketing is tricky...
If it's 'too much' it feels pushy and desperate...
...if it's 'too little' it won't reach enough potential buyers.
Continuous 'reminders' that an app exists may sometimes be needed as well.
From what I've seen most initial marketing efforts are done prior or during the launch and after 3-6 months nada, no traces of the app or its existence and the 'chatter' (if it's not truly 'exceptional') has most likely faded away...
Considering that I personally HATE the 'auto-tune sound' I'm definitely not part of the target audience.
(When needed I may do some minor off-key corrections in Logic).
Buying ad-space on social media sites is quite expensive and most likely out of reach for most smaller developers...
...this could reach potential end-users who are not already part of different groups but have a social history foot-print related to the app category.
It's tricky indeed...
Agreed that very few are doing vocals on iPad…seems to be mostly a beatmakin’…synth tweakin’ Daw-less lovin’ senior citizen audience 😭
Old people can sing too lol
One scary thought here is that those who get too used to using auto-tune never learn to sing properly as the mindset be cemented with 'I can always Auto-Tune It later'
@dwrae @MobileMusic Vortex will host a new 'Trap' contest starting Feb 1st so It might be good to get in touch and get the Vocal Tune Pro AUv3 some exposure during a live-stream?!
I'd say give it some time and it'll find it's target audience!
That's not scary, that's fun
I prefer to slap a +12 semitone pitch-shifter on a live microphone for people who think they are 'cool'
...or tweak the pitch on the fly...
in practice what I’ve observed recently is the opposite…vocal producers making up-and-coming artists record live through autotune so they can immediately hear (and wince) when they drift too far off pitch, the pitch correction arrests them on the spot..
Hehe, in those cases it's more used as an 'analyzer' than a 'fixer'.
I can clearly hear when a person sings 'off key' (Within +/- 50 cents).
No need for apps to identify that, it's painful enough as is especially when it clashes with the rest of song arrangement
Oh I certainly can hear it too…and pitchiness disturbs me beyond belief. …but this is for the singer’s benefit…they hear the correction in their own headphone…and causes them to self correct in realtime…..progressively they end up getting more and more naturally on pitch, and start to celebrate the producer turning down the pitch correction “sensitivity” over time.
That's cool and proper usage of the tool...
What I can't stand are tracks where the auto-tune it's so obvious it makes me vomit
Can someone explain the difference inside AEM of the app vs the AEM iap?
I guess you mean the difference between the IAP inside AEMS and the separate app? One is price, the other is that if you buy the separate app, you can use it as Audio Unit in any software supporting Audio Unit effects.
Please note that some software does not list Audio Unit effects that also can handle midi input, as is the case with Vocal Tune Pro, so please check that first if you want to buy the separate app.
Thanks. What I was more wondering about is the functional differences between the Separate app with IAP and AEMS with IAP. Do they both integrate the same into AEMS or is one more integrated into the DAW as opposed to being a plugin that must be loaded and have received the file before editing can commence.
There is no functional difference and they integrate the same.
Thanks. In that case I don't understand the price difference but just wanted to make sure when I double tap a clip in AEM it will open the editor without demo limits if I buy the VTP IAP. Thanks.
Vocal Tune PRO is not Vocal Tune Studio. Vocal Tune PRO is a real-time vocal pitch correction effect. You can see by its UI, that it does not feature an editor. Vocal Tune Studio is the much more expensive vocal pitch and time editor. Vocal Tune PRO is available inside AEMS at a reduced price compared to the Audio Unit version of Vocal Tune PRO that can be purchased separately on the App Store (and can be used in other apps).
All in-app purchases inside AEMS are presented at the moment you see their functionality. For purposes of improving the app, I am genuinely interested how someone can think that by going into effects, pressing Vocal Tune PRO, seeing the Vocal Tune PRO effect UI and getting presented with the Vocal Tune PRO purchase dialog would get you Vocal Tune Studio which clearly has its own way to reach and its own try/purchase dialog.
In my case probably a combination of stupidity, not knowing what if anything is behind the interface of the VTP app, not being up to speed on the different terms or varying functionality between the 2 apps or the current state or even existence of ARA type tech within the iOS environment.
Looks like what I want is the AEM IAP. Sadly more than I wanted to spend but I can see the value, effort and justification for the price. Thanks for clarifying.
been using vocal tune pro lately and sounds FANTASTIC but there are some constant clicky/popping sounds that i really cant seem to get rid of… i use it in aum and have tried everything (so it seems). anyone else run into this issue and how did ya fix it? thanks!
A demonstration might be useful.
Also this currently doesn’t work on BM3 on audio channels because for some reason BM3 sends a C note every time an audio clip plays so Vocal Tune gets rightfully confused trying to match every note to a C
What are your buffer settings in AUM? Clicking and popping usually indicate buffer settings that are too low for the device to keep up with.
Guys, the price on the appstore shows $6.99 and the IAP on the appstore also shows $6.99 does that men the total price for the app is $13.98?
