I don't need this at all but I want it just for the calm, slick looking UI.

    Crazy UAD deal.

    https://vintageking.com/universal-audio-uad-signature-edition-bundle-crossgrade

You can cross grade from the free LA2A they’ve been giving away for a while (and available from plugin boutique if you don’t have it with any purchase). But ilok. And cloud ilok at that which is the worst.

One of the best things about iOS is no ilok.

  • edited November 2023

Never had any problems with iLok and I have a lot plugins there for quite a while now.

This UAD deal is crazy indeed. Got it yesterday too, from Audio Deluxe, where it seemed to be a temporary glitch as it went on and off twice in a short time. Didn't really need it but couldn't resist the offer. Lots of good stuff in there.

u-he sales. Other resellers might be listing them also. Haven’t tried the JRRShop discount codes yet https://www.jrrshop.com/u-he

Code FORUM works. Just picked up Filterscape 1.5 for $57

  • U-He produces some of the best software synths on the market.

  • UAD plugins require an internet connection to work. Pretty disappointing. If I knew that I wouldn't have bought the bundle that's on sale.

A constant connection? I thought they were iLok protected if so constant connection isn’t needed.

  • edited November 2023

Yes, a constant connection. Otherwise you cannot use them.
My internet drops out constantly and when that happens, their plugins are greyed-out.

Thanks for the information, that’s just insane I only connect to the internet intermittently to check for updates and routine downloading and so on, I hate software that operates in this way.

Some interesting things in there! I noticed that the products have a “Rack Extension” and a “vst” tag, but the “vst” one is grayed out. Do these require some other software in addition to a DAW?

  • UAD has great effects but the constant internet connection is annoying. I almost wish someone would crack their plug-ins just so I can use what I own without the internet connection

  • Does anyone know what the UAD Sentry folder that gets created in the Ableton Project folder when installing their plugins?

  • edited November 2023

@StudioES sentry is a software development tool, it collects errors and sends them to the developer. I cannot 100% guarantee that this folder is that, but I’m 99% certain this is related to https://sentry.io .

Thanks, that makes sense. The word 'sentry' just seems intrusive.

For Rack-extensions You need any version of Reason (I think light will do). You don't need to use Reason as a DAW though, because you can run the Reason Rack plugin in most Draws.

Also, and worse still, if you have two computers everytime you use a different computer iLok signs you out of the other one so you're always having to deal with iLok cloud. It's ridiculous.

The only solution is to pay (!) for an iLok USB key which I can guarantee will always be stuck into the wrong computer. And USB keys and laptops aren't a good mix (at least not for me) either.

There are many, many other reasons I prefer not to use iLok protected software too. But I won't go into them further here.

There are plenty of non iLok plug-ins available for me not to miss those that are. Helps keep my spending down too

Cubase on the Atari had a dongle. Unless you stole it.

The UAD plugins are pretty great though, so it phoning home is a minor inconvenience. After fighting with installing old Waves plugins I think I can handle anything. Waves is crazy, you cannot uninstall 1 plugin, you have to uninstall by the Version, and I have hundreds of old V9.92 plugins, which I refuse to buy a Waves Update Plan to ugdate those V9.92 plugins to V14. They want $180 from me just to update those old plugins, which is too much, and the old V9.92 plugins still work fine on Windows 11.

I know, it caused constant crashes, unlike the pirated copy.

    Thanks for confirming!

I poked around the internet and it seems like Lite is discontinued. I did find this on Etsy, so got Lite 11 for $16 just to try.

  • I use a laptop, so it's limited in the number of USB ports for a physical iLok without the use of a USB hub, which are sometimes flaky. I just want to make music, not be a tech master, but I learned a lot about Windows while troubleshooting plugins so there's that. Some of these plugin companies make it tough for us.

  • I just recently had trouble with UAD and iLok when trying to install a freebie. I was able to solve it, but it was a bit of a pain.
