Very impressive (in term of price drop). Is it still interesting to have this in 2023 ?
Honestly? No.
Sample tank is a bit janky to be honest. I have most of the sample tank libraries as part of the 25 year group buy thing (total cost to me £109 for a hardware UNOSynth).
Musio1 for $299 is a much better deal for libraries that are actually good if you like orchestral stuff.
Spending €89 on spitfire originals in a sale is way better too. Different league.
The only really good deal for IK stuff is Total Mac Studio which you can regularly get for as little as $199 and that includes all of T-Racks, all of amplitube, modo bass, modo drum, b3 etc etc.
Sampletank is old and buggy and the content is less than stellar.
The only IK sampled stuff I use is sampletron. I do quite like Shipwreck piano but everything else is mediocre at best. And shipwreck is easily bettered by a spitfire originals piano into FAC Alteza or Valhalla Supermassive.
Thanks for this very precise and irremediable feedback
Yeah, I really like it, for 20 bucks, go for it.
How does it compare to discoDSP’s?
And just a reminder that the discoDSP OB-Xd is $49 for desktop (and it is excellent): https://www.discodsp.com/obxd/
I have downloaded the evaluation version of Musio 1. It is very good and very tempting…
PSP is giving away a delay, all you need is an active account
Acustica is giving away a free saturation plugin if you have an account or want to sign up with them https://halloween.acustica-audio.com/
When you compare what you get with Musio to the price of the Cinesamples libraries they are derived from the price is astonishing.
Just CineBrass for example costs more than Musio1 which includes CineBrass.
The CineSamples libraries have more mic mixes (apparently coming soon to Musio and will be included for all libraries that are in Musio1 as a free upgrade — with Musio1 you get all the updates to the player for free and any updates to included libraries).
CineSamples also has more features in some libraries from the Kontakt player that use specific scripting available only with Kontakt but you’re getting the same actual samples with Musio.
If you have an interest in orchestral samples it’s a ridiculously good deal.
It’s cheaper than, for example, one choir library from Spitfire. And you get a great choir with Musio and the north men choir. And coming soon you will also get the Northern women library and voces8 library.
They have promised everything on the current ‘coming soon’ list will be included with Musio1 for $299.
I sound like a salesman for Musio. But it really is a great deal :-)
My trial is soon to end and I will definitely be getting Musio1.
There’s a subscription option as well for $9.99 a month. But I will just get musio1.
They have said that upgrades will be similar to NI Komplete. If you buy Musio1 you keep everything and there will be an upgrade available to Musio2 when that eventually drops.
One more thing (sorry for the sales pitch!) Musio works a bit like a streaming service. You only download what you need when you need it. And the resources are way, way less than the full fat cinesamples libraries. I’m sure that will remain the case when they release the extra mix mixes too.
If you’re using a laptop resources are obviously limited. Something like Appasionata strings from spitfire is over 40G on its own. And you may never need the vast majority of it as there are multiple microphone mixes which you have to download whether you use them or not.
And if you make a project on different computer, when you open the project on your laptop it will automatically download all the required content.
So for me it’s as close to a no brained as a £250 plugin can be. Still a lot of cash but huge value for money.
Sales pitch over
Kuassa Amplifikation 360 Bundle $29 at Dontcrack.com
($29.05 with code PDZKUASSA down from $299!!!)
Audiomodern’s new Freezr plugin is free with any Audiomodern purchase on Loot Audio at the moment. This includes the Playbeat expansion packs right now. I just picked up the Cosmic pack for a couple of bucks and got Freezr plus some other freebies with it.
https://www.lootaudio.com/category/plugins/audiomodern
The SSL Fusion plugins are all $29.99 for the next few days. Best option might be to buy from Audio Deluxe where you get a few extra $ off (and additional 'Deluxe Bucks' to use on your next purchase).
I took the Stereo Image (which is great and gives a little room and depth to your mix) and the Transformer.
But they're all pretty good, especially at that price.
and the EQ from Izotope's Ozone 11 can be had for free or as part of the also free Komplete Start from Native Instruments
Hornet has their Track Utility for free for 24 hours https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/hornet-trackutility-mk2/
I use this a lot on my desktop, it’s a great utility plugin with a lot of useful tools packed into one window
Thanks for the tip! If you don't want to use Loot the same thing works on the Audiomodern site too...👍
Well spotted. I was fancying Freezr after Doug’s demo but not available on the phone. I’ll have to get Playbeat later 😉
In interesting delay for name your price starting at a $1,
https://puremagnetik.com/products/stages-dual-golden-ratio-delay
In fairness, the other Audiomodern plugins can also do a kind of freezing out of the box. Playbeat decided to not find some of the samples to its own presets and go totally silent on me just yesterday. Not the first time or the first of their plugins to do this, either.
I got it as soon as I watched their video. Haven’t even had a chance to download it yet but it will be fun to play with. I always love Puremagnetik stuff
They’re all kinda weird, kind of cool, narrowly focused, but good. Great style, identity, like different crayon colors in a box of 64.

Soundtoys Little Plate is FREE until December 1st!
https://www.soundonsound.com/news/soundtoys-little-plate-currently-free
…after which it will return to its usual price of $99
I have the collection but anyone wishing to upgrade, the free ‘little’ versions in the past counted as purchases thus reducing the cost of upgrading.
They’re really good plugins in themselves too.
Indeed they are.
Hell yeah I missed the last time they had little plate for free, thanks!
When I’m looking to add ear candy to songs that are almost complete I will set up a track with a guitar part from the song and record the output to a new track while running it through many of the PM plugins one by one as well as others like Unfiltered Audio and then select the best of all the weirdness and add as guitar effects.
