I want to try a BLEASS app, what is a good one to start with?
I'd love to try a BLEASS app. Do you have a personal favorite? I have Monolit and it seem so well thought out and sounds great and I was thinking of getting Megalit as well. Mostly seeking unusual but beautiful rich complex sounds. Or beautiful rich simple sounds.
Comments
By app, do you mean synth, effect, or any of them?
Granulizer or Dragonfly. Skip the synths and bread and butter effects. There are always better alternatives. But those two offer unique glimpses into effects.
What are your musical goals & styles?
Omega is great - fresh take on FM and easy to discover new sounds.
What are better alternatives to Motion FX, Motion EQ and Slow Machine? I’m just curious…
SlowMachine is akin to Halftime or Grossbeat on Desktop
Motion Fx is a suite of sequenced fx
Dragonfly is a sidechain-able dynamic tremolo
Granulizer can input 4 busses and make beautiful soundscapes and granular goodness
Phase Mutant uses Fm as an effect, akin to a resonator or ring modulator
Samplewiz 2 is the successor to an amazing granular sampler synth, cool If you already have a library of one shots
Omega is probably my favorite, Alpha’s great although a bit icey in timbre
You can always start with the free Monolit and check if you like the UIs?
I believe this is key, as much is I like some of their on products on paper, I just don't gel with their interfaces
That's my issue with Bleass too.
This was what I was leaning towards saying too, but wanted to be sure @gkillmaster wanted to know about all of them, or just the synths. (In the case of the latter, Monolit is still my favourite for Ambient fodder.)
I personally love Granulizer the most since it produces amazing textures and begs to be fiddled with in a live performance setting. I'm also partial to Shimmer since I'm obsessed with Shimmer reverbs. Bleass compressor is my favourite bread-and-butter compressor to use in AUM, although in NS2 I usually stick with its internal compressor fx.
That's how opinions diverge. I see it exactly the opposite way. Bleass UIs are most stringent across all of their products and in the iOS music world. If you know one or two apps, you know all of them and get along with them very quickly. The color scheme may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's one of the keys to getting familiar with their new apps so quickly.
Thank you! I mean any of them.
Thanks!!
Thanks. Always looking for new compelling atypical unusual sounds. Not sure how to describe. Kinda like if Martin Denny got into modualr.
Wow, thanks for the great breakdown!
I do really like the UI and the feel of working with it. It's what peaked my interest!
Yep, I'm aware, and I do appreciate that they're consistent across the different products. I just dislike how the sliders and XY pads behave. The advice still stands though, if @gkillmaster doesn't have an issue with that when checking out the free product then all is good.
Edit: @gkillmaster I just saw your reply above, enjoy!
Leaning towards Granulizer and Omega. I do have so many granulizers that its embarassing so really hesitate.
Right away, for me, something about the interface felt easy.
Yea, I’m a big Bleass fan. For ease of use, price point, sound, ability, quality, etc… but every one is easy to use, great ui’s.
You can’t go wrong with the filter, super quick and easy to use. That’s the first Bleass app I got, but only because it’s the first one they released. I use it all the time.
Maybe motion FX since it has like 8fx built in and the ability to modulate the fx with a sequencer.
Granulizer is great, a bit unique, but cool, definitely watch a video or 2 to see if it creates sounds you like.
Really I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them, just depends on what type of app, or what you are looking for… There’s only 3-4 Bleass apps I don’t have, and I’m getting the saturation next time it goes on sale.
Just like with reverbs, no two granulizers are exactly alike. Many different flavours out there from Bleass Granulizer to Fluss and everything inbetween.
That said, I do recommend Omega for easy FM synthesis! Megalit is decent (I haven't played much with it), and Alpha is a simple subtractive synth (my number one simple subtractive synth of choice being Zeeon, with Sunrizer in second place).
All that said, if you love modular synthesis, get Drambo instead of Bleass' synths. Yeah, I'm "that tosser" recommending Drambo in a thread unrelated to Drambo this time. 😂 It's got a steeper learning curve even if you're seasoned with modular synthesis (it took a while for me and Drambo to click), but once you learn it, the sky's the limit.
Haha, about the tosser! Yeh, probably great advice. I might even take this advice cause I've thought about it myself. I do really want to take the time to learn Drambo but a little scared about the rabbit hole.
Omega is certainly good for that, and the randomiser often produces sounds I would describe as "compelling atypical unusual"!
Oh yes mate it is intimidating, but take your time to watch Youtube tutorials about Drambo as well as allow yourself to play around in it. Also dissecting these various patches here https://patchstorage.com/platform/drambo/ can also help.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Go here:
https://www.youtube.com/c/TheSoundTestRoom/featured
..and do a search for "Bleass".
You'll find many demo videos - buy the app that takes your fancy.
Here’s another approach to dRambo.
If you’re into creating sound then grab the presets as some of them
are more complex and compelling than quite a few boutique monster synths.
If you’re into designing your own thing then dive into that rabbit hole
but the main thing is create music and on that note I have some of Bleass’ apps
and the Granulizer and Dragonfly are really cool out of all of the ones I have.
This too @gkillmaster .![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Thanks everyone! This has been super enlightening. So much appreciated!
Absolutely mate.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I agree that the general vibe of the Bleass stuff doesn’t jive with me. They usually sound like they look-modern and clinical. The exceptions are the more unique effects I listed earlier (and forgot to include Slow Machine, that’s a good one too).
Their vibe is not my vibe, unfortunately. Quality stuff though.
I love Bleass UIs. Dragonfly, Phase Mutant, Bleass Motion are probably most interesting to me. I prefer Spacefields to Slow Machinem. There are several things I don't like. 1. Inbuilt lfos are cool but until recently rarely had enough destinations. This has improved though. 2. Devs rarely go back and improve on their earlier products, even just by doing something simple like adding more lfo destinations.
Overall though I REALLY like Bleass FX apps, less so the synths. Just personal preference.
