  • When I were a lad , €1500 would buy the field .

  • I was watching “The Menu” last night and it kept reminding me of the TE filed table crap.

Even if this is just trolling and some weird sense of humor, I’d compare it to the tacky assholes that buy 600$ champagne bottles just to pop them and shower it all away. It’s obnoxious, disrespectful and bad taste.
They might be trying to position themselves as a luxury brand or whatever their plan is. It’s just stupid IMO. They were a company that produced very fun and cool products that happened to be expensive. Now they’re an expensive brand that does whatever.
The good thing is that being so overpriced they’re easy to boycott.

  • If it’s gonna help funding their next great product, then it’s totally ok. But I wish they’ve gone with a different brand name because clearly the music people is not their target audience for this table, unless it’s a joke.

  • Also makes wonder how many 'Teenagers' actually work at the company?!

  • Whilst I like TE’s design aesthetic and own several of their devices, (OP-1F, OP-Z, OB-4 and their M-1 headphones) the thing I dislike about this desk is not the price (although it’s mega expensive) it’s the build quality. I’m pretty sure as soon as put half the things on my current desk (pair of SL1200s plus mixer, a S2400, monitor, speakers and laptop, set of drawers etc) it will begin to bend in the middle as the desktop itself is simply thin plywood.

  • Wait till they drop the chair lol

  • It seems so polar opposite of their original vision where things like Pocket Operators can be affordable and accessible for almost everyone

  • Or just that they are offering products that fit in a wide range of prices, doesn't have to be an either/or kind of thing.

That’s 800$ for the recicled toothbrush stand and an extra 4000$ for the cushion, made out of TE-enthusiasts donated belly button fuzz.
It’s going to fund the next product research, cos the products are obviously underpriced and they need to get the extra funding from where they can…

  • Here is an interesting interview with Teenage Engineering co-founder David Möllerstedt.

I enjoyed that, thanks. There's some good reads on that site.

  • Does it pass the WWF test where a huge wrestler gets slammed on top of it?

The real risk the company runs is that some people will see this desk and their other overpriced products and conclude that all TE products are overpriced and not worth the money.

This sort of nonsense can tarnish the whole brand.

Teenage Engineering’s comically high prices are literally the reason I avoid everything related to them. I will never watch a vid on their products. The second I found about them and saw the prices, they became my least favourite brand.

I only clicked this thread so I could have a laugh at what I already knew it would be about - completely detached from reality prices.

Huge no thanks to the entire brand from me.

…they are. And economic crisis often means more poor people, who struggle to make ends meet on one side and more rich people, who can afford luxury goods on the other. Almost no middle ground left. The core problem is polarisation and division.

    true.
"The core problem is polarisation and division."
This is the result of Capitalism and Neo-Colonialism
but I don't want to start here...

    As someone said once
    the problem is that
    we live "together"
    but we don't live together.

  • In use the OP-1f is deep, fun, inspirational, and sounds beautiful. It would easily pass the WWF test, it's incredibly well made. I'm really happy TE exist and follow their muse. The article was a great read.

There are instruments for everyone these days, pick what suits you. I'm happy for all of it- Behringer, Sequential, Moog, Fender, Harley Benton, TE, Korg, Roland, Apple, Yamaha...almost all of these companies make gear that costs much more than anything TE makes, and they all have a broad range of products at different prices.

There are so many things to be upset about in the modern world, Teenage Engineering just isn't one of them. They don't represent anything different than Behringer or Roland or Apple do, they all make stuff, lots of expensive stuff, that nobody really "needs". If you own an iPad, you already own an expensive inanimate object that billions of other humans cannot afford. I don't go through life drawing a line in the sand immediately behind where I'm walking.

  • Just wait for Berhinger to make $150 clone of it!🙌🏾😅

  • Looks like an IKEA desk 🤦‍♂️

Won't happen. Premium pricing is a tactic and it works. Look at most fashion brands. TE is a fashion brand.

Yes, it is a tactic but it doesn't always work. Look how many fashion brands have gone out of business in the last 5 years.

As I said, it was a risk they run. But probably not a big risk as their main products (the music gadgets) are good products.

It costs them 30 dollars for those desk parts from IKEA. There’s very little risk here

    🤣

OMG maybe we can start describing the music we make like TE describes their products:

    Song: Pretentious
Produced in a Scandinavian tunnel under a solar farm in the highlands utilizing a bass guitar with strings made from rare, Himalayan sheep herder rope…

I disagree with this - I think they're representative, in spirit, of a large portion of what is wrong with the entire world.
    Greed.

Teenage Engineering and their comically high prices are so reflective of how every company and government wants to take every last cent you have. They want to bleed you completely dry, and then start coming after your offspring, friends and other family members.

Obviously that's a joke, but they're still symbolic of that incredibly harmful-to-society greed that we see throughout so many corporations and companies, and unfortunately even on the individual level.

Since covid hit and everyone jumped on the "charge everyone 100% of their wages for everything" bandwagon, the world has turned into a complete cesspit of everyone with their grubby little hands out wanting all your money.

It's a huge no from me - it goes beyond simply being expensive or a little overpriced.

  • I understand what you're saying, I respect the passion. Not buying TE gear is your choice, but you own an iPad. You're as guilty as the rest of us. I would argue the internet is a much bigger problem than a little Swedish company with sixty employees. But here we are.

The world is a huge unfathomably complex violent dirty mess. No one is going to save humanity by buying Roland instead of TE.

If my post is too political, by all means mod, delete it.

  • I often had GAS for the OP-1 thanks to Red Means Recording. He made it look so easy to use. Then the OP-1 Field gave me more GAS. I loved the idea of committing sounds to tape, destructive editing, happy accidents, etc. Then I bought an M1 iPad Pro instead and thus the Summer of Ambient 2022 was born.

Then @Hainbach made that video back in November showing how he made Ambient in the OP-1 Field with the chance of winning the giveaway, which I sadly didn't win. However then I saw a video by...I think it was Venus Theory, and it demystified the OP-1 workflow greatly. For me personally, it looked like more of a pain to work with than anything enjoyable. End of GAS. 😂

    I still enjoy OP-1 and OP-1F videos.

Right, I still wonder what the OP-1F is like in practice since it does seem like a fun little device to play with, but I recently got a Mini 6 and am enjoying it thoroughly. And for the experimental stuff and happy accidents and when I'm fresh out of traditional musical ideas, I'm into miRack. I've discovered the point of modular isn't anything "intent driven" but rather "go with the flow".

My point to all this rambling is to put a stop to any political discourse in this thread by being distracting. 😂🤣 Okay, now back to taking the piss out of TE for charging a ridiculous amount of money for an IKEA table. 😂😂😂
