Shame the off topic forum has been closed but I understand why. Thanks for the update.

Understood here as well. While I greatly value the feedback and views of this unique community for all things regarding music gear, I understand you need to scope this and make choices on boundaries.

Anyway, welcome to Doug and Jo!

My two cents: please keep Hardware topics. A lot of us connect iOS to other stuff, like synths and grooveboxes. And wander back and forth from iOS to hardware and back.

Just a thought: there’s a bunch of stuff under Off Topic that is directly music related, and I’m wondering if there’s mileage in maybe having a couple of extra categories? Someone’s already mentioned Music Theory, and I’m wondering about something like an Inspirations category for posting links to videos/sites/books/articles people have found inspirational.

    NB thoughts here, not demands!

This. I absolutely understand and agree with the desire to remove the nonsense and petty squabbling that is so exhausting, but OT was largely music related, just things not directly iOS related. It's honestly my primary source for music news and for whatever it's worth I'd miss that stream.
Admittedly, I was just drinking from the aggregate Recent Posts stream, and since I see there's already Hardware and Desktop categories it looks like there's place for a lot of things.

Maybe a General Music or somesuch category that's still topical but more open for music and less barroom than an overly inviting Off-Topic?

  • Hi Doug and Jo. @thesoundtestroom Good to see you both here. Welcome to the wild west. 🤠 Lol.

While I'm here, I think a "musical miscellaneous" section would be great for discussion of music-related topics such as theory and discussions revolving around our favourite musicians (such as a new release from Boards of Canada, or the passing of any legends) as well as for posting Youtube videos based on music. (It's like off topic, but only for things related to music.)

And of course clear rules laid out in a pinned thread to "keep it respectful" and "keep it related to music". This way we can edify one another, mourn the loss of great musicians, and listen in awe at new recordings that are not our own creations. Oh and also for alerts to app sales (unless the general app discussion section suffices for that).

The Hardware and Desktop sections should remain as well since our humble forum has evolved beyond iOS discussions.

  • Have you banned anyone yet :D

  • DUG E. ME BOI!

SYNTH WIDOW with the golden voice!

I for one welcome Doug and Jo..

    Get the ban hammers out!

  • ❤️❤️❤️ for the way all of this is panning out. Good forum. Good people.

    👍

  • Congratulations, Doug and Jo @thesoundtestroom 😀🎶😎 (and Watson!)

    @richardyot Thanks man.
The forum is so big now that it’s practically impossible for @CapnWillie and @MichaelTyson to deal with on their own, Michael in particular has so much work to do with Loopy PRO that time taken with other things distracts from his main work, so basically it’s all down to @CapnWillie
So hopefully things will be dealt with quicker and any questions you may have can be answered faster too.

Great to have you on board as a mod, Doug.

I have not been on the Off Topic threads for months, so I had no idea what was trending or being argued. But here's the thing, what one person sees as nonsense or petty squabbling is another person's important subject matter. And I guarantee that every single music-centric thread eventually sidetracks into the same squabbling because that's what always happens, no matter what is the subject of the thread... :)

  • Well this is sweet! Welcome @soundtestroom and the enhanced ontopicality!

That's fatalistic and really the only answer then is to just close the doors.

Haha. Not at all. Rational argumentation leads to great things. Sniping, personal attacks and rage posting ends up being far less beneficial.

    👍

  • Having met the guy, I can confirm that Doug is a wizard of the first order and should not be allowed near gymkhanas, open flames or small newts…

  • Welcome new mods!
Hopefully you can keep this place on an even keel…

  • Welcome Doug and Jo! You have a huge job ahead! I agree though that there needs to be a place for shoehorning those things that are related to music/synths/etc that don't fit the other categories.

  • I'm not gonna say congrats as it's actual work involved but I do want to say welcome! :D

  • Doug I promise to be good….
