Thanks for this! Gauss has a proud place in my iPhone's home screen for impromptu sessions and this change greatly improves the experience
This is great. Thank you Mr. Bram. Appreciate you and all of your hard work to make the most useful music apps ever.
Ace, thankyou
@brambos you got my vote for best iOS developer 🙏🏻
I just tried Gauss again after this thread and came up with a really cool bizarre loop. I believe the key to Gauss is not to try to use it as an actual looper, which I did at first. It excels when you record something to end up with something totally different and unexpected. Droning is the obvious use but the sequencer together with short decays and some inertia can create some really cool riffs.
Video on this would be…… nice.
There are lots of videos of Gauss on YouTube. Just search Bram Bos Gauss. Functionally it's all the same except that you can now import audio whereas before you couldn't.
"Import audio" may seem like such a simple feature update, but honestly it has renewed my interest in Gauss, and it's going super well!
Will it automatically trim the sample down to 45 seconds if you load in something longer?
Thanks for the great update btw. Top 5 app of all time material since it came out.
Yes, it will trim it down and do a subtle loop-transition to make the cutoff point less rough.
Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for the reply! About to give it a go now. I’ve got a handful of new loops that need mangling
@brambos Here is my video tutorial for the new GAUSS update, it covers pretty much everything in the App
I hope you enjoy the video👍😊
Oh nice, gonna watch it right away! Thanks!
Really enjoying the sample import update makes a great app even better. Thanks @brambos
I thought the filter mod is only active when the sequencer is turned on?
No you can use the filter independently of the sequencer 🙂
Thanks, I just looked at the manual. I had mistakenly thought the filter mod control was an offset for the sequencer into the filter, but instead it controls a hidden LFO to give a looping wah-wah effect (if I understand it correctly now).
Sweet update @brambos thanks and congrats.
I know this is slightly off topic but with Fluss, have you ever considered or had any requests to be able to move the corners of the 2 X/Ys so you can set a range for modulation, just like you can set a range on all the sliders as they move. I would love that. Sometimes I want movement in the filter X/Y but not across the entire range. So if I could drag the corners and set a range for the X/Y to stay in, it would be so freaking cool, thanks. Any thoughts ?
I think I remember a fair few people have asked for that or similar. I'd personally love that
This would be excellent.
Right on, yea I didn’t know if anyone had mentioned it before but I love setting the ranges on the the sliders so they only move within certain amounts. Every time I use it I want to drag those corners of the x/y so I can do the same with the filter and octave/pitch. Most of the time I don’t want it to bounce across the whole range, just a certain area. So adding this feature would allow you to tame some of that movement. I Have no idea how hard this would be to code, but I would love to have that feature in fluss. If it is possible, it would make Fluss even better. I know this is about the amazing Gauss, but any thoughts on this feature for Fluss @brambos ?
Awesome. Thanks for the update Bram 😊
@brambos hi there, i can’t see gauss in aum since the update… ipad pro 11, last ios
Oups : just shut down the ipad and reopened, all is good now
Anyone wanting to emulate a 4/8 track tape recorder to use as an instrument, this update makes that reality even better with the inclusion of importing sound files.
AUM - create a bunch of gauss instances with whatever effects you love, if you have a hardware midi device with faders - even better.
Thanks @brambos
Hey @brambos
Will there ever be an update to allow you to trim your recorded sample? Sometimes I miss the start of my recording and end up with a small gap?
Thanks!
Is there no limit to the length though? There is certainly a limit to the length of recordings which means you couldn't use Gauss to make full tracks with just 4 instances of gauss acting as a 4 track unless either your track was extremely short, or you were pitching everything down a lot
Sorry @Gavinski I should of clarified a little more.
I just meant if you wanted to emulate something like this and use gauss as an instrument you can easily do it but yes with a limit of 45 seconds with pitching things down to extend the time even further.
I also use paulxstretch to get my desired sounds too with this technique.
This is a track I created using this technique -
Here’s another example showing my setup in AUM for anyone interested.
I'm having issues with Gauss; I use it in AUM, save project then the next day open the project and there's just no sound coming out...like the recording has just been deleted. All the params are saved within Gauss, but the audio is wiped. Any clues? @Hainbach @brambos
