Very cool Elsa update
Apologies if someone has already started a similar thread, but there is a VERY cool Elsa update just been released. Built in sequencer, among other things… lots of fun

Thanks for the news.
Its a great app. Just like all the humble software. And this is a nice addition.
Is it worth a buy, now it’s been updated? Relatively cheap, but with half a ton of sample apps already, not to mention those built into apps such as Drambo, does it offer anything new or unique?
Though obviously pretty, the video above doesn’t give much away, and aside from one posted 9 years ago, my YouTube search simply delivers a pile of clips from Frozen…
What a cool app. Just got it. More fun than Samplr. And IT IS AUv3!
It's capable of some unique and sometimes even lovely sounds but the UI and lack of explanation of how to use it drives me crazy. I wondered while struggling with it if the developer is actively trying to thwart my understanding in a strangely diabolical, almost sadistic way. Doesn't he want me to enjoy using it? That video referenced up above also just seems meant to obfuscate.
Search for Elsa sampler. Or search for Rymdigare and click through to the dev page.
I would say go for it...
there are many instruments that cover pretty much the same ground and at one point you just have enough of them...
and there those that spice things up with character... it can be in sound, approach, interface etc... this dev definitely has a character... it may not be for everyone, but it’s definitely interesting for those into experiencing something new or different...
Even before the update it was an interesting take, now it opened up the possibilities even more.
Cheers! I’ve got Tardigrain from the same developer which I struggle with a bit, but will check out any new vids!
If it’s the interface, than it may not be for you
Ah yeah…didn’t realise at first they were from the same dev. Still, I’ll wait and see if any new demos tempt me (:
My tardigrain vid - even though silent - might open a few doors. I’m definitely planning on making a spoken vid on one of this dev’s apps soon, because I really want to promote devs making beautiful use of touch, and he is one, for sure. Once you understand one of his apps, the learning curve for the others is a bit easier. Anyone into experimental stuff will enjoy his apps. An extremely unique dev!
Look at the timestamps section of the pinned comment - it has a lot of written tips to help understand the app. Without reading these, you’ll be a bit lost probably!
Cheers Gav, I’ll check this out, see if I can find some love for Tardigrain!
Agree with you I love his character apps and non conventional approach but it is not for everyone you need to be adventurous and forget about all GUI and AUX of other apps it is quite unique. You love it or hate it. I love it. It is an experimental approach more than a learning process.
Ive used e-l-s-a for capturing field recordings along side fieldscaper. So I am elated to be able to import samples and have a sequencer at my disposal now. Thank you humbletune!
Many thanks @Gavinski for the videos and great idea to do videos on other apps this great dev
Thnx! These apps span a gap between a puzzle game and a musical instrument, initially at least. They break your balls but it feels good when you finally start to crack the puzzle!
No question there’s a learning curve, but invest the time in elsa and the rewards are there. It’s brilliant IMHO.
I’ve just been revisiting Tardigrain, and it seems to have finally clicked with me, by turning everything right down, then slowly bringing them in to see how they affect the sample playback. Actually like it more, and will have a go at integrating it into some tracks next week.
Not sure if it’s known, but you can enable in-app help while figuring out the interface at the beginning
That goes for all his apps
This is a statement and a half!! Would love to see how is the live onscreen sample manipulation.
Definitely. I finally bought it after all this time a few weeks ago and have been having a blast. This new update is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻 I’ve had most of his other apps for years but held off on the humble bundle for some reason. Highly recommended.
Oof idk if I can go that far 😂 Samplr would be a top 10 if not too 5 app for me. But I have been really really enjoying ELSA.
Thanks. I actually really got into Tardigrain last night. Although confusing at first, the UI makes it a very playable instrument, so more interested in Elsa now.
Agreed. Samplr strikes just the right balance, for live sample manipulation it’s an easy number 1 for me. It’s a pity it is slowly vanishing from my set up.
For sure. Tardigrain is an iOS classic as far as I’m concerned.
When I use Samplr I’m using staying within the app so not being AU isn’t a huge thing for me, I just hope it comes some point when apple finally does away with IAA completely.
Do you think there's much value in having Elsa as well, if I already have Tardigrain?
The two don’t really compare... T is a granular synth, E is a sampler... both will ‘force’ you to think a little outside the box... so imo, yes.
