That’s disappointing, freq is so mainstream 😂

    The 3 modes:

    • same start/stop for all keys (keyboard icon)
    • start/stop for same key - so set a portion of sample for C and all C keys will play back this portion, basically allowing you to set 12 different regions (cylinder icon)
    • start/stop for same octave - allowing you set different regions on different octaves (rectangle icon)

Thanks! But what is the actual process once you press the icons for same note / octave?

Hit key (note the marker index changing at start point), set the start/stop points, hit next key (if in same note mode) or next octave (if in same octave mode), index will change, set another region, etc.

Thank you, I'll try this. As @BerlinFx says, part of the fun is figuring these things out. At least I try to tell myself this as I struggle with the minutae of these apps 😂

Problem is with this, is that:

    1. it’s not fun.

I’ve been enjoying this, until I tried to use the sequencer. It’s not covered by the help section, and after being advised by the pop-up to visit his website for more help - about as easy to navigate as his apps - there isn’t any (unless I couldn’t find it).

So after stumbling around on the app, trying to work out how the sequencer worked…

    1. my earlier enjoyment faded, and I’m now frustrated.

And of course as well as people like me with very little spare time getting cheesed-off because there’s no tutorials or help files giving me a leg-up…

    1. potential purchasers don’t know about some of its unique features, and so it’s being under-sold.

And I still don’t know how to use the sequencer!

I really hope that the dev adds some sort of feature to differentiate between playing notes and selecting sequences. Even just a different colour depending on the mode would do wonders.

Open the sequencer and note the large number on the left — that’s the sequence you’re currently editing. Tap the greyed-out Rec circle to select sequences using the keyboard; tap the Rec button to enter notes using the keyboard; and tap the large Play button to start or stop sequences using the keyboard.

  • I love all of Erik’s apps! I just wish we could change some of the contrast, or maybe some darker tones.

Yep, my one gripe with the v2 release is that it has done away with dark mode. I used that a lot during night sessions.

Is it worth a buy, now it’s been updated? Relatively cheap, but with half a ton of sample apps already, not to mention those built into apps such as Drambo, does it offer anything new or unique?

Though obviously pretty, the video above doesn’t give much away, and aside from one posted 9 years ago, my YouTube search simply delivers a pile of clips from Frozen…

Definitely. I finally bought it after all this time a few weeks ago and have been having a blast. This new update is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻 I’ve had most of his other apps for years but held off on the humble bundle for some reason. Highly recommended.

Thanks. I actually really got into Tardigrain last night. Although confusing at first, the UI makes it a very playable instrument, so more interested in Elsa now.

For sure. Tardigrain is an iOS classic as far as I’m concerned.

Do you think there's much value in having Elsa as well, if I already have Tardigrain?

As already mentioned, 2 very different apps. Both equally great, imo. And each have their own strengths.

What a cool app. Just got it. More fun than Samplr. And IT IS AUv3!

Oof idk if I can go that far 😂 Samplr would be a top 10 if not too 5 app for me. But I have been really really enjoying ELSA.

Agreed. Samplr strikes just the right balance, for live sample manipulation it’s an easy number 1 for me. It’s a pity it is slowly vanishing from my set up.

When I use Samplr I’m using staying within the app so not being AU isn’t a huge thing for me, I just hope it comes some point when apple finally does away with IAA completely.

Gee,I know some people openly despise IAA to a degree I normally reserve for things like dental surgery or chicken tenders, but unless you are a developer (apologies if you are), why would you look forward to the day when none of those apps even launch anymore? I'd miss Shoom and more than a few others others a lot, and I'm wondering how you will benefit from its death.

Wait what? I don’t despise IAA at all. 2 of my all time favorite apps are Borderlands and Samplr.

  • Is there any ‘Init’ preset with all parameters zeroed, this as I prefer to start with a clean slate.

I find the ‘Time Divider’ and ‘Pitch Compensation’ quite annoying for one-shots and other instrument samples and the lack of support for pre-looped samples is also something that could be fixed but would require a separate loop-point as currently the whole selection is looped.

Snapping the handles to transients would be a nice bonus when slicing to keys.

But regardless it’s a nice update and I decided to keep it on my iPad for now :sunglasses:

I think @gravytop was referring to your comment “I just hope it comes some point when apple finally does away with IAA completely”. If iOS were to stop supporting IAA then a good few apps would be no longer be integrate-able with host apps (unless they had Audiobus or AUV3 support). Not sure I’d call that death lol, though it could mean they can no longer be included in coordinated multi-app workflows.

Cheers boss, I’m slowly getting the hang of it, though still confused by the pop-up keyboard controls, which also don’t seem to close after exiting the sequencer.

Not a problem though, I’ll be using external MIDI apps anyway.

What I mean by that is I hope AU comes to Samplr before apple officially kills IAA since it’s already being phased out. Would hate to see the app go to waste.

Gotcha. I was pretty sure you weren’t just wanting IAA support dead out of sheer spite, but ya never know.

If this forum’s threads are unearthed in a few centuries and become the canonical texts of a future religion, IAA will fill the role of Satan, and Drambo will be God. Haha

Haha true 😂 I do know some people really really do not like IAA and flat out refuse to use it. Which I never got really.

Is there any ‘Init’ preset with all parameters zeroed, this as I prefer to start with a clean slate.

Here’s a try for a clean start, it’s not very easy to determine what should be zeroed out but, see if it’s useful or not. I got a crash when deleting the sample I used and saw now it’s replaced with a very short audio file.

No worries, I've created my own 'Init' preset with almost everything zeroed and a simple saw-wave.

The issue I had with AUv3 state restoring e-l-s-a has been fixed in the latest update.

I do have some issues restoring AUM sessions with e-l-s-a though but still trying to track down what causes it.
The sample doesn't play correctly after session restore, doesn't matter if it's long or short sample.

Selecting one of the existing factory presets and then loading a preset with user sample fixes it until next session restore...
...don't know if there's some 'left over parameters' that play tricks on me that seem to be 'active' but not 'enabled' in the UI.

Oh well, my life doesn't depend on e-l-s-a working and I have no energy to trouble-shoot at the moment...

    Cheers!

PS. Seems to be the 'wobble amount' parameter that is not properly restored, it says 0% but is definitely not 0%!

Oh, alright. I've only played around in Stand Alone so far. Maybe give Erik an update on the issue. I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

I am surprised it gives sound when the ADSR is zeroed out but maybe that is as it should. I left (on my INIT) the BPM: 120 which is probably a bit high when just messing around. It's pretty fun trying various bpm (20-240).

    Skål!😊

I'll just tag @humbletune and hope he'll pop up and check-in at some point...
This is such and obvious glitch I feel quite sure the more die-hard e-l-s-a fans have already reported it :sunglasses:

    Skål!

  • I'm loving it. I treat it as an experimental playground and I had plenty of blissful moments.

Not sure, but I noticed your reticence to follow through and thought I'd bite the bullet and take the 2 mins it took to copy your message into an email 😂

  • Is there an easy way to set loop points? I'm setting them where I want but the loop plays past the last marker to the end of the recording.

  • This needs very lil gray-color labels tastefully placed at top or bottom of cells.

  • How do I import my own samples? Can't figure it out at all... :#
