Ohh…just got this too:
I actually sold it. I really loved it, but it was massive and after my move I had no space and it was essentially going unused and would have been for 1+ years. So I sold it to someone that will get more use out of it. Going forward I’ll probably get the Minifreak. 1-2 hardware synths is all I need considering everything the iPad can do. If I ever repurchase anything I’ve sold it’ll be the Prologue I think. It’s the best sounding modern synth, imo.
(Needed something with a bit more isolation than the MDR-7506)
@ecou Nice!
I don’t mean to brag but…
essentials
And one more thing…on the way…hehehe stay tuned 😆
I could use one if those. But I have spent enough for this month 😂
An Anker 10’ USB-C cable
I'm having a blast. The sequencer is very powerful and fun to use and with the filter, lfo and fx, you get a lot of mileage out of your one shot samples.
I've been using it to sequence my apps and harware synths too.
The lofi-12 is an old school sampler with a 4 track "elektron style" sequencer. It doen't try to replace your daw like the Smpltrek.
The Smpltreks's workflow looks painful imo
Does it send audio over usb or just midi? I know it has audio in but it would make a great iPad companion if it had both. Sampletrek does look more finicky I’ll give you that.
Tbh, I have my sampling needs covered on the iPad. And a Volca Sample2 + pocket operator. Lofi just looks and sounds so cool.
There's no usb port, just Sync in/out for Pocket operatos/Volcas, 5-pin Midi in/out and audio in.
I love to use it as a hardware sequencer with AUM or Loopy Pro, as a 4 track drum machine or a battery powered groovebox.
What I like about it is that it has a particular sound and doest´t try to do everything.
My wife will attest that that are quite good at isolation… from the number of time she’s jump-scared me while I’m wearing them!
Haha, good one!
The isolation is pretty good and makes it a lot easier to record quiet sounds since the sounds get blocked by the headphones making it easier to hear what the microphone actually picks up. which was one of the main reason I got them...
...and also no need to play at insanely loud levels to block the background ambience.
Why, oh why, did I buy this thing?
Historical reasons. Back in the early 80s, this was the first MIDI device I ever owned. It came in a package along with my DX11.
The interface seems mind-bogglingly primitive from today's perspective. It has only two tracks, and if you want more you can bounce. Yes, bouncing MIDI tracks! Still, coming from tape, I was like: "What you mean I can bounce without any degradation? Miraculous!" Also, you can't set it to specific bpm. You use the big dial to set the tempo by ear. Still, once again it was like "What, you mean I can varispeed without changing pitch!" Even worse, your only way to back up was to data cassette!
But I saw it on auction for $12.99 with no bids for days and days, so I impulsively jumped on it. (Of course, in end it went for nearly twice that price. But, lucky me, I bid and "won" the auction.) It is suppose to arrive this week. I have no idea where I will even put it. But, hey it's got that cool retro-Yamaha look, right?
Ha! When you're start buying gear just as memorabilia, maybe it's time to check yourself into GAS rehab!
I mean if you had a closet or room full of "memorabilia" you might have a problem or are on your way to becoming the next Hainbach of nearer retro equipment.
For $12 it sound like some casual fun.
Speaking of old Yamaha stuff picked up super cheap… I picked up this Yamaha MM30 mixer from the thrift store. It has a 7-band EQ, and what I assume are tilt-style eqs/filters on each channel, along with a bizarre echo effect on each which has the advantage of being uniquely weird. I’m running my Kawai K4 and Model:Samples into the 1/4 inputs, and since you can switch between line and tape inputs, I also have the RCA outs from my Yamaha MT120 4-track going into the RCA ins, giving me some EQ control when I’m exporting individual tracks. (The EQ on the 4-track only affects the stereo out). Overall a handy addition to the mix.
That’s exactly what I like about the Volca Sample (and the Lofi). Sometimes you just want something that does one thing very well.
I’ve got these and they are very good. Especially for the price.
😋
Got myself this little babe and it will get company with a boss fs-6 in a few days
