  • I don't believe in predition.

  • @Telstar5 : this is scary brilliant :)

  • I currently have a very pessimistic view of the Titanic impact that A.I will have on our lives and I’m not normally a pessimist.

Have you read Yuval Harari 21 Lessons for the 21st Century? Written a few years ago, so 'BChatGPT' lol. But has some very interesting sections on how he thinks the whole thing will play out. After reading that, my prediction is that in developed countries AI's devastating impact on the job market will force the introduction of a universal basic income. However, poor countries - and that includes a hella big chunk of the world - will basically get left behind and have no way to claw themselves out of that hole. Think there are problems with immigration now? Wait til the twin bombs of climate change and AI hit. It'll be like in that movie, Children of Men. Very scary.

Shamefully never even considered the poor countries. The affect on them will be devastating.

Think there are problems with immigration now?

Yeah. I can see a lot of countries just closing boarders.

  • exactly 👍

Will we be able to one day type in "make me a drum app like Drum Machine" and the Ai generates an app for us to download?

"Make me an app like Blocs Wave but as an AUv3".

"Make me an app like AUM with more faders on the screen at one time".

"Make me a version of NanoStudio with audio tracks".

  • The more this crap becomes ubiquitous, and embraced by both companies and lazy “creators”, the more I loathe it.

  • Please ChatGpt create for me PianoTeq8 …. and 5 minutes I got for 5 usd the apps on my personal Apple AppStore for 10 usd . 😂

I understand now why so famous dev sign to regulate AI they will loose their jobs in 5 years. One of the top AI creator who leave Google 1 years ago (the father of AI ) state that I was waiting that will happen in 20 to 30 years and now he discovered that will happens in 3 to 5 years and it say he should not have create the AI language architecture at Google lab and apologised for that to all people 😂

Well on a side note, and a lower level, I asked ChatGPT to generate Mozaic code, like, "write a Mozaic code to generate a random blues lick", and it gives in return some code building blocks and advice how to use it.

But I am not a programmer so I have no clue yet if these AI code works in Mozaic. I have no time yet to put some work in it.

  • And we thought that piracy was the only thing to shake up the music industry!

AI, or whatever it is will lead to the situation where not only grooves (blurred lines/let’s get it on) but also timbres/voices. The record company will analyse their artists voice and send AI sentries out to search for copies. Very Matrix. The problem will arise when there’s people with uniquely the same voices although I expect each voice will have its own fingerprint just like errr, a fingerprint.

I’m way too old to even care but I hope iPads will be able to run algorithms that will let me sound like my favourite artists. Even better, I hope I can create my own voice avatar.

    Super exciting!

Let's say I wanted to get an AI Thom Yorke to sing a song I've written. How would I go about 'training' an AI to do this? I keep seeing the result but not the actual process.

I actually thought about the UBI as it’s been on governments radar since industrial automation. Clearly they cannot just lay off millions of people at a time and expect an economic growth. We cannot spend money we don’t have.

Yes, the point about mass migration is a valid one. It would also be interesting to see what reactions in countries like China, India or Russia may be.

  • I think Rick Beato is right about all of it. People are going to start to like the fake versions of their favorite artists BETTER than the real ones.

  • The music world is already in chaos, due to loss of earnings courtesy of poor streaming revenue and illegal downloads. I can’t see millions of shite sounding Poundshop Oasis albums on bandcamp making much of a difference.

As they do now, bands will make most of their income playing live, and selling merch. You can’t AI that (unless you’re ABBA).

Until the Fortnite or Roblox stage is the norm. Already 1/2 way there.
The Gorillaz dont really need to be at the show at all.
Even in the early 90's I went to a FSOL show that was piped in over the internet, so removal of the artist from performance has been with us for a while.

  • Beato is such a nobber. good musician though.

But, much as I like FSOL, for me, those pretend gigs are crap, and 99.99% of gigs aren’t like that anyway.

The whole point in going to see a live band/artist, is that you get to see them doing their thing, even if they’re just twiddling knobs on a synth. Otherwise it’s just a pimped-up Powerpoint presentation.

If that’s the future of live music, then it’s I’m glad I’m old and will miss it.

This is such a crap, pale imitation of late-period Beatles. Which is another way of saying this is not an AI creation but is a solo Paul McCartney track from 2013.

tiktok/internet famous is the new fame.

they already have 'singing game shows'. the artist isnt even onstage:
    https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/alter-ego-fox-gives-first-look-at-worlds-1st-avatar-singing-competition

(it was an afwul show, but the avatar is weighted in judging the same if not more than the actual singing)

In the 80’s I was dragged along by my then-girlfriend and family to a ‘gig’ by one-hit-wonders, Shakatak, at a local leisure centre. They mimed the whole thing, everything. The flute ‘playing’ was particularly funny.

Back at her folks place she put on a record by Gong, a proper live gig. Her brother-in-law quickly took it off, calling it ‘rubbish’, and that the performance we’d seen was ‘real music’.

Avatars, holograms, AI generated donkeys, mimed flautists serenading grown men dressed as lions, piped internet bleeps and samples….all well and good, but it’ll never replace the thrill of watching a proper live band.

  • Seems like a problem for people trying to make money from music. The rest of us have nothing to worry about.
