While we’re at it let’s just cut to the chase and legislate that iPhone has to run Android OS. Big bad apple needs to be open I Say!

I will never comeback to Android or Windows I prefer to go to Unix and write again some COBOL coding , I still have a 10 years unix destop coded to be a Firewall, like a tank if behind you use Mac OS or Ios. Door closed.

Lol that reminds me. EU should absolutely legislate that COBOL should be an equal citizen in developing iOS. Swift is proprietary!! Unfair!

Also Xenix, Ubuntu, RedHat, BeOS we demand that they be downloadable, Installable on iPhone with 1 Click! We need to protect consumer choice! It’s an emergency!

Many people laught when I talk about COBOL but they don’t know that most of the highly critical software , like the ones for Airplanes control tower are in COBOL , nobody have better solution. The best highly paid dev are the one in COBOL and they are not afraid about their Jobs , AI or not. C++ is a joke compared to COBOL when security is the most important matter.

I understand :) the folks who are going to get disrupted by AI are the ones who get paid 250k a year to spend 3 months building a responsive drop-down box in React

But to say EU doesn't care about hardware is bullshit

I don't think the "dinosaur" said that.

If you re-read what he said it wasn't about the EU not caring about hardware.

It was about the EU not taking into account that people might have problems after they install apps from non-Apple stores and then Apple says "you have 3rd party apps installed so it is not covered by our guarantees or warranties".

    Exactly

  • Of course there are a lot of lobbying so EU enforces this upon. It’s a big dollar industry and iOS has a considerable market. For the million of average iPhone and iPad users, they are perfectly fine with the system in place. It has worked out for everyone and has helped create communities like this one here, Audiobus. It’s not because of the apple market place that Ableton hasn’t released their flagship into iOS like I read here, it’s nonsense. If Bitwig decides to port it to iOS they will do it just like Cubase did.
Apple is not perfect and keeps evolving and better them selves and iOS has from birth a different philosophy than MacOS.
An alternative store will just leave customers confused, open cans of worms, it’s ugly and tacky, but again that’s how I see it. I believe Apple will keep creating great products, iPad Pro with M chips will keep evolving, some desktop features will be made available soon like sound card drivers, having Elektron Overbridge or other makers would open up further this system. Sometimes more is not better.

Interesting point of view , why Ableton hasn’t released their flagship into iOS ?

Or even go to the PianoTeq8 policy you got the desktop daw on Mac OS we offer you for free the iOS version, same for Cubase can do and at the same time keep the Cubasis updated.

It should push Apple to do the same with Logic PRO Users and upgrade far more GB to implement a more pro small Daw for free. GB will be free but powerful do and Logic Pro will be Logic Pro ios for people working yet on Logic Pro.

This is a possible scenario that make sense ?

Other dev in music state that technically it is possible. If Ableton do it , it will be more électrochoc than cubase as Ableton is the main competitor of Logic Pro.

Now it is officially done LogicPro is on IPad

  • There you go ! Apple keeps moving forward and bringing highly advanced, sophisticated pieces of software for those who wish to be creative and bring to the world beautiful memories.

  • Today an historic day for iOS IPad music world. Unexpected today

Silly question from me : when you buy an IAP inside an App what is the % for Apple or all is for the dev ?

Same revenue split as for app sales. This is why it has historically been such a pain in the ass to purchase Kindle Books on iOS as an example. Amazon has to resort to a very inconvenient flow to avoid the IAP charges.
