Yep it is unusual but I am sure the Dev is aware of it and maybe they don’t intend it to be a live looper which would be massive missed opportunity! A lot of people seem to like it just as a glitch machine.

There isn’t a way I could find to get playback where you’d expect it to.

With a little more testing I think I've confirmed that my description in previous post is accurate. You can get it to start playback where you want if you follow those rules. Problem is, it requires pretty precise timing for your button presses.

I've got a script working in Mozaic that lets you press a pad anytime in your final measure and then delays start of loop playback until the new measure starts, always gives perfect timing. That may be one of the things the dev is working on already, but I'll try to polish it up and post the code. You'd be able to attach foot pedal or anything else instead of using button or pad to set playback to start with next measure.

    Nice work!

Thank you for doing that and I look forward to trying it.

Any chance of adding pitch shift to the wet signal, in a future update? That would make it very attractive for me, as using an existing pitch shifter fx after Molli would affect both wet and dry signals. An onboard option could create a lot of harmonic potential, with mixing of the wet/dry signal.

  • Hm, don't know about a pitch shifter.
Also a delay would make sense for example and would be a great addition.

But for now, we rather want to improve what we have.
Maybe "store" selected loops, jump to selected loop positions, Midify loop start & loop end etc.

No worries, just would have been nice to transpose the wet against the dry signal.

All of those sound useful to me. :) Maybe 'loop start point' and 'loop length' instead of (or in addition to) start and end?

    Yay

But, because we want it all in sync and without clicking it's not as trivial as it sounds like. So we need a little patience

The fact is this looper should loop back from the start when doing 8, 16 or 32 length measures. It’s fucking stupid not to.

Hi, first post on this forum. Molli Matt here. Thanks for calling my work "fucking stupid" ;)

Anyway, that's changed to work the way you suggested now. Didn't make it into this update, but will be in the next one.

Hey I wasn’t calling your work that.

In fact I have praised your work but you can focus on what you like.

Thank you for changing things and for making Mollilooper. I am enjoying it a lot!

Welcome! Fun app, and I’m glad you guys are listening to feedback, Matt, cheers!

Thanks for enjoying it. The idea behind Molli is to make some solid instruments that don't require a manual and "just work". We want the interface to be absolutely as simple as possible, so as you see there are so many little things that the app just has to do in the background that the user never even notices. If the loop is less than a bar, then just stutter the beat. If the loop is over a bar, then jump back to the start of the bar. But then there need to be two conditions for if the loop selector button is pressed slightly before the bar, or slightly after...

This sort of thing, and some of the issues that @Gavinski helped us find with smoothing the loop crossover points all take a fair bit of effort.

Really grateful to everyone that has supported the Looper so far.

We just released a Molli Looper update (1.0.2):

    • Improved layout for small resolutions
    • Jump back to start when retriggering multi bar loops

    More soon to come.

If you want to help the app please give it a nice rating or review in the store

    Thank you!

It works perfectly now as it should. App of the year for me, I really appreciate you making this. 👍

  • LOVE this app! thank you!

  • Properly good this app, great for live rhythm jamming.

  • @elasticdrums , hi Oliver, super looper, love it .
One request, in AUM state of the ‘momentary’ switch isn’t saved.
If I have ‘momentary’ engaged on every MolliLooper in a project, and save the project, I have to re-engage it on every MolliLooper when the project is reloaded.
    Can this be changed? Thanks

  • We are currently Beta testing a new Molli Looper feature: With "Freeze" Mode, you can switch between already recorded sound (snippets) and the dry input signal. This means, you can switch between 2 (totally) different sounds now, can be lots of fun!

  • Great to see you working on continued improvements. Are you still thinking about stopping the effect on finger removal instead of having to switch it off @elasticdrums ?

If I understand correctly why you mean, then it's already there: Called "Momentary"

  • I haven’t found a DAW which is able to record touch automation from the step looping buttons. Works fine for the highpasslowpass xy pad.. Would be nice to be able to do this (as is possible with BLEASS slow machine for instance). Tested in Cubasis 3 and AEM.

😀 Spot on - I hadn’t even seen the bottom portion. Can I just mention whilst I’m here - I really like playing with the filter and the slicer at the same time but I’m finding it a bit tricky to do it with one hand (I know to probably not meant to be used like that at the moment) - but I just think the layout could be looked at in some way so that you can get from any one of the slice sizes to any other at roughly the same speed - maybe in a circular arrangement (like the drums in Patterning) or even a square shape (like the Filter on MolliLooper itself or a Korg Kaoss Pad)). I think this could maybe improve the playability - with one or two hands. Just an idea. I wonder what other users think?

    Looks good.

I am noticing that Mollilooper is slowly drifting out of sync in AUM. It’s not happening with other hosts.

Maybe last AUM update broke something?

    Yep.

It’s subtle but it does drift out slowly over time and turns out it’s all hosts not just aum.

Please contact the devs... They likely don't check here that often, would be good to have that fixed.

I didn’t experience it but I may not have tried it for long enough. Is this with the beta?

  • maybe someone can help me with this...are the loop buttons able to be mapped to midi?

i’m having trouble in drambo, i seem to be able to select the Loop Start target to map it (blue tick) but the mapped item counter still shows zero and no knob appears in drambo to map it to....am i overlooking something?

    cheers!

    @elasticdrums

I have the same problem. I can see there’s a MIDI in but I can’t seem to play the loop buttons with it. Also trying to write button press automation in for instance Cubasis 3 doesn’t seem to work. Would be a great addition if you could record your playing with the loop buttons..

Cane here to see if it was just me. Definitely drifts over time, like the loop boundaries are perhaps not drawn perfectly according to tempo. Did you report this? Great little looper otherwise!
