It does say it in the small print but it’s referring to GarageBand imports.
So rather than being some sort of negative about Logic Pro, this actually refers to getting an extra feature if you have both Garageband and Logic Pro. Garageband projects can be seamlessly migrated to Logic Pro.
That requirement for GarageBand to be installed (if that is true) is surely just for loading GB projects in the first instance? Like you can delete it when you’ve migrated your projects, surely?!
Edit: addressed above by actual research 🤣
This is a big one. Having recently gone back to using Reason for the first time in a while, I was blown away by how quickly and smoothly you can do stuff like resampling just by rendering in place and dragging to a new sampler. Doing that in most iOS DAWs is a real pain. Kills the enthusiasm for the idea in the first place!
I just want to try out Logic for Alchemy. It can do far more than what even AddStation can do.
does anyone have seen whether the iPad Logic will have the Flex Pitch etc.. feature?
I like the question of this thread. I will read more than I will write.
My question (not sure if relevant to the thread or offtopic) is does the drum step sequencer in Logic Pro on Mac have the ability to nudge notes off the grid for producing J Dilla styled beats?
This is what I came to the thread to find out - apart from certain AU plugins on desktop Flextime (and a few other audio processing features) is the only reason I still use Logic (I’m an NS2 user these days!)
Alchemy for Logic is different than Alchemy for GB?
Do we know if LP for iPad will have the exact same features as LP for Mac?
Do we know if the full version of LP for iPad will take 72GB of space?
I have so many great iOS apps that I'm not interrested in the LP add-on.
And how about the ressource? If you can run 8 tracks in Cubasis with 25% of CPU but 8 tracks in LP will take 75% of CPU it's not a win.
Anyways, if I understand correctly, Apple will give to everyone a free month to try LP so I guess we will soon answer theses questions.
Yeah, you can nudge each step in positive or negative direction (+/- 50% of the steps duration).
These are the 'per step' options...
That's neat! Thank you for letting me know mate! May 23rd can't come soon enough for me to start my free trial! 😃
It's what musicians crave.
If you have GarageBand you can try out Alchemy right now.
Same here! I'll be doing a deep-dive and digging thru every byte of that app to see what it offers
I'll mainly focus on audio & midi editing, automation, bouncing/rendering and the new instruments (one is apparently based on the classic Marcos's SMPLR) and the over all experience.
Tons of us have waited for something like this and it’s nice to focus on good things now. iPad platform finally receive more recognition after all those years? Cool!!!
I mostly use iPhone and iPad for live use with custom AUM macro templates using audio and midi loopers with complex midi routings. iOS modular believer here!!
For DAW needs when I want something more linear I use Cubasis, BM3 and a custom AUM macro template with 4Pockets apps.
What I need and mostly miss without modular workarounds for those more complex songs is tempo/time signature modulation with audio support (stretched or not), abletonesque loops workflow, proper audio recording comping.
I hope Logic Pro for iPad will do that. With also AUV3 touch editable automation, good editing tools audio and midi, good tactile instruments, good sounds, new and complete tools (sampling, pitching, drumming), rock stability and frequent updates, iPad ressources optimisations (multicore) and nice freezing capabilities.
If it ticks all boxes I will be an happy man.
At this price in 20 years it’s less than 1000 €. Think about Ableton Live price, I think it’s ok.
…and us, too
Create + not finish even more songs! 🤣
I wager it is because Alchemy for GB ios was such a trimmed down Alchemy. Hope it has a huge library of patches like Alchemy did back in the day. If you can import older Alchemy desktop patches that would be amazing.
👍
Don’t have a compatible iPad, so curious what others will report.
If the UI/workflow is fast and smooth I might get a new Pro for this.
Yes the one in Logic it is far more powerful the one on GB is a very limited ones without all the possibilities. You got many knobs to control parameters. It an high end pro synth the one in GB is more a nice toy 🧸.
Alchemy is really a great synth on LP.
He big error is to compare GB to Logic Pro it not at all working as Logic Pro this is why user of GB need time to be able to use Logic Pro. Even Apple built a fonction on LP call transition from GB to Logic Pro.
Guys that never use Logic Pro need to know that there are a so great gap between Logic Pro and GB that is like coming from GB to Ableton. It change your workflow, you have a real learning curve that can be deep.
This why when you ask guy using LP on Desktop is it like in GB it is difficult 😞 as it is an other world 🌍 so many possibilities it’s like going to a good tape recorder to a big recording studio or post production studio.
Some word to think about it : it is professional, not fun but serious, not easy but need to learn.
I can perfectly understand that some guys here will prefer a fun groovebox . But for many it can open new possibilities with no limitations.

Many thanks to all (hopefully I didn’t miss anyone?) for posting your responses, really interesting to read. Cheers.
Find yet anither reason. to procrastinate and search AB yet even more times during the day.
It will allow me to put Logic Pro and iPad in the same description of a YouTube video and garner more clicks.
You're welcome @Robin2 - this thread has been an interesting read.
I hope it’s not disappointing and delivers the same features as desktop. The things I miss on iOS daws:
Nothing. Even if I was going to go for Logic Pro, which I'm not, I'm convinced I'd drop it after a month or two. I can't sustain much creativity working in a DAW. All spontaneity gets lost for me.
Likewise, I just don't like arranging on iOS when there's a nice, powerful, easy to see, and far less cramped experience sitting right next to that little iPad on the desk.
Logic Pro on iOS changes nothing for me.
I always swore up and down GB would be perfect (for me) if it had a proper mix bus, better (editable) automation and… well really just those two things. And now we’re getting that plus more, for a very reasonable price. I’m down to clown. Hell it might even be family shareable, that’d be cool.
Zenbeats comes pretty close to the workflow of Logic but has been a bit uneven in terms of stability/bugs, the built-in sounds are very "Roland", and the built-in instruments and effects are very basic. Outside of 3rd party AUv3's, it's not really a sound designer's paradise. GarageBand also has that workflow I like, but using it feels like riding a bicycle with training wheels while wearing oven mitts, and lacks some pretty basic features (like MIDI plugins, sidechain, sends and busses). But I like that workflow of recording MIDI and audio loops in the clip launcher and then arranging on a timeline.
I'm hoping Logic basically provides the best of GB and Zenbeats with more polish, better built-in instruments and effects, and easy transition to my desktop. From the literature it seems like it will deliver, with the caveat that I haven't seen any evidence of MIDI plugins in any of the screenshots or descriptive copy that's been posted. But surely they wouldn't leave that out right?
I'm not expecting 100% feature parity with Logic for desktop, but I do expect it to be the most full-featured DAW on iOS. If it isn't, I'll be disappointed.
Aside from that, I very much hope it generates interest in the platform sufficient that some of the desktop plug-in makers, especially Arturia, decide to invest in iOS versions of their software. But I wouldn't expect those developments to come along for another couple years.
If you have an iPad Pro capable of running it, I guarantee you’re taking the 1 month free challenge.
