What do you plan on using with Logic Pro?
I'm new to iPads. I've honestly only played around in Gawageband. On desktop I use all of plugin alliance, some waves, fabfilter, soundtoys and then others...
I was only going to use Logic when it released but curious what 3rd party plugins there are that are actually good, should I be looking at AUv3 only?
Like, If you could only keep 5, what would you keep? (I don't want to plugin overload like I did desktop) I honestly think using stock logic is probably better lol
Comments
I think it’s gonna be insanely hard for any of us to whittle it down to only 5. Most people here probably have 200+ AUs on their iPhone/iPad. I have over double that and plan on using them all.
But yes AUV3 only as that’s probably all Logic Pro will support.
Only apps that I can use on Mac desktop
The same or only stock plugins if you want to Import your projects to LP desktop
I just fired up Logic on my Mac, loaded a Bleass synth and the Logic step sequencer, and then opened Logic Remote on my iPad.
The UI of the step sequencer is just amazing on the iPad. It's a clicky mess on the Mac, with far too many clicks and drags. On the iPad it's a pleasure to use.
I think the step sequencer plus the quick sampler, and a few favorite AUs, might be all I need.
I'm already wondering if it might even be able to replace the Digitakt.
Do you mean effect plugins or also instrument plugins (AUv3)?
Five combined for me must be:
Fabfilter Timeless 3
Synthmaster 2
Buttersynth
SWAM trumpet
Pianoteq 8
If you're starting from scratch, just use the stock Logic plugins to start with.
Over time you'll probably acquire more on the way, but there's no rush.
The good news is that plugins are much cheaper on iOS, so you can get great plugins from the likes of FabFiler and Audio Damage for a lot less. IK Mixbox, DDMF, ToneBooster etc all make great plugins that are comparatively cheap compared to desktop.
DDMF ? Sorry to ask what is it
https://ddmf.eu/
They make two of my favourite plugins. My favourite (by far) reverb for vocals:
https://ddmf.eu/magicverb/
https://apps.apple.com/app/magicverb/id1600495615
And my favourite bus compressor:
https://ddmf.eu/magicdeatheyestereo/
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/magicdeatheyestereo-compressor/id1511697460
Thanks I use magicdeatheyestereo very good one
Good looking UI on every plugin, except Magic Verb plugin - toyish look on that plugin…
Overall, good sounding plugin bundle…
I got more and newer Fabfilter plug-ins on my iPad than I have on my Mac. So I’ll have to be careful with using them or burn a hole in my wallet and buy them on desktop.
But I actually decided to separate iPad and Mac production as much as possible. To work on hobby/passion music on iPad and business music on Mac. That way I’ll stay excited about iPad music making
I really hope Valhalla stuff will come to iPad!
I will treat Mac Logic and iPad Logic as separate 'stations'.
Got way, way more plug-ins for my iPad which is also a LOT faster than My i5 MacMini
Visuals by Monty Python, sound by Capitol Records studios
My eyes perked up. Not that I have a Digitakt. I get excited to see how iOS apps or workflow can either replace/emulate hardware gear, thus saving me $$$ while still having an enjoyable experience.
Would love to hear your thoughts once you get your hands on Logic Pro on the iPad.
Same here, hopefully the core install won't be too bloated with stuff I don't need.
Funnily enough a Digitakt was on my list, but looks like an iPad upgrade might get the cash instead...
I bought Baby Audio's Crystalline reverb the other day on @richardyot's recommendation. It's beautiful, I will be using it a lot.
Along with Pro-R it’s the nicest algorithmic reverb IMO, and so easy to tweak.
Oh great, now I have to buy Pro-R too. My wallet hates you all.
If nothing else, this is going to be an excellent partner for hardware. An iPad with Logic, hooked up to a Digitakt or Digitone via a single USB cable for midi and audio, should be quite good.
Wait Fabfilter do at least 3 sales per year at good price and you can have also sales bundles. You don’t need it in a hurry every guys here bought it on sal s for sure
I would wait. Logic has some very nice reverbs.
The Toneboosters reverb is very similar in character and features to Pro-R, so you can always get that as a cheaper alternative.
Pro-R (or Toneboosters reverb) is a bread-and-butter plugin, for when you need a discreet reverb with lots of control over the tonality so you can shape it to your liking. I think that Logic also comes with a similar stock reverb though.
Crystalline is more glossy, with some nice additional controls to add some high-end sheen, it's great to use on instrumental parts, like a synth lead or a clean guitar.
And then MagicVerb has IRs of some of the classic Capitol echo chambers, so it gives a lovely vintage sound to vocals.
Then there are the special effects reverbs like Blackhole, Rymdigare, and FAC Alteza. Alteza is my favourite, it makes everything sound amazing. Rymdygare has some interesting options to create some lo-fi, and Blackhole has a very good reverse control (Gravity setting to the left of the dial).
Those are the best reverbs on iOS IMO, but I would love to see Valhalla ported over.
Exactly. And the more stock FX you use, the more compatible projects will be between iOS and the Mac. I use almost no third-party plugins in Ableton, save for Overbridge. The built in stuff is amazing. Same for Logic
Idk what's in Logic Pro for Desktop or what will still be included in Logic Pro for iPad. However, I'd use the following for my mastering chain...
-RX950
-MagicDeathEyeStereo
-Baby Audio Pitch Drift
-TB Barricade
-Youlean's Loudness Meter
Not sure if I'd use anything else with Logic Pro, but we shall see.
Is there ever a Tonebooster bundle similar to the fab filter?
If fabfilter is really as good as the videos show, and if it visually correspond to the audio most accurately, is the bundle a good idea to invest in ?
And does Apple or Logic Pro have anything like those TB or FF tools? (Visual EQ and the like?)
Not as comprehesive as FF but yes. The stock EQ is 'visual'. It's not dynamic though. "Just" an EQ. There's also a separate Linear Phase version.
Logic also has 'non visual' vintage EQs based on Neve, API, Pultec etc which are pretty nice too and can add some optional colour.
The compressor has multiple models based on 1176, LA2A, Digital Comp etc. and on Mac at least have a graph showing what's happening and you can switch between the models whilst retaining your settings (as you can with other stock plugs like the guitar amp -- It makes dialling in a sound so much easier with a consistent UI for all the amp models).
Using Amplitube afterwards feels fiddly and annoying.
The stock plug-ins are good.
Is it me or is Apple advertising a 16 inch ipad?
Hmm.. could be. Or they photoshopped that hand in too small. Or the kid of one of the devs having a go at the EQ
Not sure if a kid.
I got Trumpish hands.
Tablet is about a 10 inch.
Hand covers screen.
But calculating a 16 inch.
Hand is similar to pic.
Either a photoshop or a 16 inch.
Or a photoshop for a 16 inch.
I don't know what logic offers, but I'll probably use KNOCK, Barricade, wider... and some synths I like, maybe lol
