Listen to a Brice Beasley patch played by Matt

  • The more "pro", the better.

    Thanks for your enthusiasm, Nino.

While I can’t leak too many details. To clarify, that patch (and the playing) you posted is by the master himself, Brice Beasley.

While I don’t usually listen to anyone’s advice, with this app I sought the council of Brice and Dean (Electonisounds). They deserve much credit for shaping this thing into one of my fav synths of its kind. (I find myself using this more than the analog hardware that inspired it).

I’m under NDA, but the main sound designer partner with this app is a platinum producer that no one on iOS has worked with before (our license agreement is only for iOS/iPadOS).

So in that sense, it's pro. It is a simple app, though. Only $4 release price!

    omg day made lol

  • Seeing as this is the same type design as king of fm. Will the tempo on the keyboard for the sequencer be shown in logic as it’s missing in king of fm plug-in? Maybe an update is coming down the pipeline for king of fm to show that so you can sync your sequence?

king of fm automatically syncs to host clock and recently had a bug-fix update that fixed some sync issues it had.

Daaaang, BURN! Glad to see a dev not afraid to "return the compliment". 🤣

  • When the older flagship apps (D1, FM2) will start working well as AUv3 ?
To be honest i would gladly give most od the new Audiokit romplers only for this. Cheers nad thanks for your work team Audiokit!

Well, I guess it depends on how you define “Pro”. If you mean “pro” sound, there’s at least one producer with literally a billion plays on the pre-beta that says he’s using it daily on every session. And another Grammy-winning producer who told me “all he needed is this and a copy of logic to make a hit record”.

I’m under NDA, but the main sound designer partner with this app is a platinum producer that no one on iOS has worked with before (our license agreement is only for iOS/iPadOS). Heck, I could even see this as a reason some producers reach for their iPad over their desktop apps.

So, yeah if they’re not blowing smoke at me - The sound and tone is about as “Pro” as it gets. 😅 However, it’s not gonna have as many features and controls as something like Butter Synth — To make this as usable as possible, I ended up cutting an entire panel of controls — making it super efficient for working producers to sculpt their own sounds and kicks (oh, it’s also a kick maker) as fast and easily as possible.

Ok you hve my attention 🤣

well, if somebody can't do efficient pro-level sound design in synts like Butter and needs for that super simplified synth with really minimal set of knobs then i would not call him pro :-)) Fact that he has grammy or whatever doesn't change that, in case he makes hiphop or similiar genre which has really super low requirements for synth sound design - you literally need few fancy knobs like "punch" "bass" "the kick" andso on ... well, what to say..

Like, let’s name things correctly and do not pretend they are something else. Audiokit synths are not suitable for pro level sound design at all. They are literally preset banks with simple structure and few knobs for inexperienced users and people who just need quicky get “some” sound with just few random tweaks without more deeply understanding, what knob they are twisting, is doing. And honestly quality of sound (not speaking about sampled instruments which quality is basically given by sampled HW synth) is mediocre..

Again. That has nothing to do with fact if given person is “grammy awarded” or conpletely random AB user. This speaks nothing about synth quality and usability.

For real deep sound design and especially for really pro-level experienced sound designers, synths like Butter (or Massive, Serum, Vital on desktop) actually are super efficient and fast to sculpt own sounds ..

Sorry but needed to say this…

i have more profound question, when audiokit synths starts to have proper lfo/env -> filter modulation like it works on all normal synths and not inverted amount/cutoff functionality which completely makes no sense 😂 or even not working cutoff at all when lfo mod is enabled (like “king” of fm)

Lots of pros work quick and will sometimes opt for the simplest tool that gets the job done. It doesn't mean they can't work with a more complicated deeper synth. Sometimes that's not what the job calls for.

Literally all pro producents i know in genres i am interested in - which are genres heavily depend of pro-level sound design - use Massive, Serum, Vital and other really PRO level synths and they are super efficient with them .. or HW synths of same level.

Again, as i said. I can see how for hiphop (or some aimiliar genre, just marginally dependent on proper synth sound design) or for somebody who is doing music for new Rihanna song for example - is ok solution something with 4 knobs like “fancyness” “phatness” :-)) But i guess when we are talking about synths which deserve “pro” mark this is not reference area where we should measure synth quality …

But ok, wil not argue here anymore, i am biting my tongue literally for years when it comes to AK stuff marketing and promotion versus quality of result, just this time i was not able to hold myself back anymore and needed to rant a bit

Now will be quiet again for next 10 years about this topic 🤣

sometimes it’s good to say things straight as they are even through they are not nice.. if correctly processed, it may be much more
beneficial for getting realistic view than just tapping on shoulders with “woow dude you are cool”.

Snob ?? I think you misinterpreted me.. i like also simple synths (like Hilda or recently released Subscription synth) - they are not pretending they are something else, they do for what they were designed in EXCELLENT way and their devs doesn’t need to hide behind “grammy awarded producers” and tell stories about how they are more efficient for pro sound design than other vastly more powerful synths..

@dandy just defended certain tools, because from @AnalogMatthew post you can get the conclusion that whatever platinum producer touches instantly becomes Pro. And if the tool is sophisticated then it’s not appropriate for Pro’s.

That ‘cork-sniffing’ has reminded me of:

    A BIG +1 on that!

One thing that has become quite obvious over the years is that when the word 'Pro' is used it's really down to what kind of Pro.

A 'Pro Producer' doesn't automatically mean 'Pro Sound Designer, using 'Professional Tools' doesn't make the user 'Pro' it just gives an illusion that they have a shot at becoming a 'Pro'.

In the good old days a 'Professional' was a person who made an actual living doing what they considered themselves to be good at...

I've become quite good at finding flaws in just about everything I touch but I'm no 'Professional Falwfinder' as I don't make a living from it :sunglasses:
