  • BTW, my own wish list

    1. Patch changes on a single track. Without this if I want the same Gadget to play a variation on a patch later in the song I need to program all the parameter changes by hand (unless I'm missing something, when I tried it the patch changes globally across the whole track)

    2. Wave shapes to draw controller curves, straight line, curve, sine, triangle and variable pulse. This would speed up workflow and allow sidechain effects to be replicated. You also get smoother transitions and it would be easier to make swells etc lock nicely to tempo

    3. Inserts, sends and some effects Gadgets to go with them. Multiple instances would be a must. While we're at it, group tracks would be nice too. A good start would be a compressor/gate/expander, reverb, delay, para EQ, chorus/flanger/phaser, filter, distortion, amp sim. 8 units, a couple of bucks each or 10 bucks for the lot. All of them with sidechain inputs.

    4. At least let me have access to the master reverb parameters.

    5. An arpeggiator.

  • I have visions of a thousand men dressed in burlap at the gates of Castle Korg shouting beseechingly (but with an underlying tone of violent desperation) access to the master reverb parameters!!

  • @JohnnyGoodyear

I just spat coffee on the dog laughing. She is now frowning at me. At least I turned my head and missed the ipad.

  • Thanks @zen.

(My only confusion now is that, say I'm at 120BMP - surely I can get 2 bars as a 4 second loop or even 4 bars at 8 seconds and still stay under the 10 second limit of Abu. Or is that what you're saying...? Bring in 4 bars to Abu if BPM allows, but just set the markers so you trigger a bar at a time... Then move onto the next Abu instance. If so... Thanks, I get it and will try it - although maybe using Bilboa for 16 x 2 bars within one instance would be more efficient on memory?)

I love your point 2 BTW - wave shapes for parameters. That would great for a lot if things.

  • @zen. Thanks again. I reread your original step by step solution. Makes perfect sense.

    Much appreciated.

My post above is confusing and wrong, sorry. When I said with a 10 second limit you need to work with single bars I meant 4 bar loops and then you get 16 beats not 16 16ths.

What you say above is right. The same principle applies to Bilboa and you could be onto something with the memory bit. You could get an 80 second loop chopped across the 16 pads in there, which should be more than enough to start bringing in vocals and recorded instruments. Four copies of Bilboa would give over five minutes.

It's all been getting a bit messy in gadget tonight. I've now got 8 instances of Abu going with the loop I came up with yesterday. 4 of them are clean and are sequencing the loop in order. The other 4 I'm varying and adding different fx to mix in around the original loop.

Sadly though, there where the fun stops for me this weekend. The reality of the day-job hits me in 6 hours.

  • @xen .... Sounds interesting!

I got 16 bars at 90bpm in on one Bilbao tonight. (Chopped in BM2, exported to Dropbox, imported from Dropbox to Gadget). Pretty painless.

I now have an incessant, continuous, horrible, tuneless, distorted, droning noise from phawuo inside my Gadget track. Perfect :).

  • How reminiscent this all sampling time is to the old school samplers with their floppies and zips. I'm sure korg did that on purpose ;)

  • I was thinking in the car this morning;

16 copies of Bilbao could be used to 4-track 5 odd minutes of music. Then I realised. Shed loads of work to capture four tracks using painstaking workarounds... I've just gone back 20 years to my old tascam !!

    Haha classic :D

  • How do people imagine audio tracks working in Gadget's 16-bar-max scene based environment?

  • Dunno. How does Ableton's scene view handle long bits of audio? ( I haven't yet had a chance to play with my free copy of Lite).

  • Ah right. I dunno; I don't use Live either. Not since v1.5 or something anyway. :)

  • Where i have to sign up for Ableton Lite? In newsletter or where?
    Thx

  • It's from the Export menu.

    Thanx!!

  • Why is this video now private and unable to be viewed?

  • It's just too awesome. The world wasn't ready.

  • edited November 2014

I only found two vids and one is now gone. jeez!! Everyone said it was a good video too. Has anyone tried getting permission to view it or is it gone altogether?

Sorry guys I will reenable it, I had a troll just posting abusive comments on all my videos so I disabled all my videos because the constant notifications in my email was driving me to distraction.
Some dude who really didn't like iPads for music...

  • Is set back to public now ;)

  • Can't the comments be turned off? I have seen videos that you can not comment on but I am not sure how it was done.

worked out how to block him but forgot to reenable videos after that, was quite a while ago now.

He was writing heaps of trash talk and deleting his comments, but I would still get an email notification with the deleted comments in it..

  • So @Buska what are your thoughts on Abu now, with some more time/experience gone by?

I haven't used it as much as I thought I would, I'm pretty oldskool and often find myself using Bilbao instead :)
I easily use Bilbao 5-7 times for every one time I use Abu. Even loading up the same melodic sample to each of bilbao's pads and manually tuning them and playing them that way.
I come from a background of using old Mpc's so I'm pretty ingrained in that way of using samples.
You might get more mileage out of Abu vs Bilbao. I need to use it more

  • @Buska Thanks for the feedback Mister B.
