Give me a sale on the naada new complete collection and I’ll buy U_U
I'm finding the update crashes on launch on my geriatric 2016 iPad Pro 9.7" on iOS 13.5; reported.
I’ve knocked up a quick video showing the basics of setting up strumming in the new version of GeoShred. First time I’ve used captions etc so apologies if it’s rubbish 😊

Yeah but that shouldn't mess up existing AU state saves and their respective presets, that's not an optimal implementation. Haven't had this happen in any other AUs before
Agree it’s a pain @Icoustik , this thread from last year explains why just the preset number is stored https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/1119454/#Comment_1119454
Sigh, yeah that's a PITA. At least they could refrain from adding new presets for instruments that I won't necessarily even be buying in the middle of the preset list, and keep ordering as it is to avoid this bothersome problem
Thanks for putting that together, GT. I guess I won't be using this feature, seems it's more trouble than it's worth for me. No palm mutes, no vibrato, no slide guitar, no whammy bar action... it's quite limited. I'll be sticking with Steel Guitar for more complex guitar simulation, and keep using GeoShred Pro for other things it's really good at. Perhaps the excellent developer will keep refining this and make it more guitar-like in the future.
Hi @Neum, my understanding is that palm mute, vibrato and whammy can all be made to apply to the strumming area. Some of the default strumming presets e.g. ‘Basic Strumming Palm Mute’ show exactly these effects. Slide guitar is as far is I know not possible although you can more or less do this with the standard fretboard interface. Hope I’ve understood you correctly !
Thanks, GT. Yeah, it'll take some more refining by the developer before I think I'd use this function. GeoShred still does soloing better than just about anything out there.
Thanks you at geotony
Pat, amazing as ever, has tracked this down to an Apple CoreMIDI bug in iOS 13–14.3; if you're still running an iOS version in that range, be cautious about updating to GeoShred 6.
Thanks @GeoTony. Gonna give this a watch and try it out later tonight.
We are aware that some users are experiencing this issue. Note that for this release we fixed a long time issue where state saving for the plugin was not always correctly saving the "setlist:preset" numbers. Note that we did NOT REORDER the setlists or the presets, being aware that would be a problem. It is possible that if the state was already incorrect before the update that the fix is locking down the incorrect preset.
Just a technical note. Apple allows plugins to expose "Parameters". These parameters are essentially integers and NOT strings. So what we have done is assign an integer to each setlist and each preset in the setlist. If you are using "Acoustics:Classical Acoustic" for your preset, what will be stored in GarageBand Clearly since these are integers and not strings, setlists and presets can never be reordered.
Had Apple had to foresight to allow parameters to be strings, then we could simply expose "Acoustics" and "Classical Acoustic", and what is stored in the state would always and forever be "Acoustics:Classical Acoustic" I can tell you that we have suggested this in person to the Apple Core Audio/MIDI team over the past 8 years.
We would love to work with anyone who has this issue to make sure that it's fully addressed. Please reach out to us directly at [email protected] and we will assist you.
Thanks,

Everyone who owns GeoShred has access to strumming in GeoShred 6. It is not an IAP.
See our note at the end of this thread. We would like to work with you on solving this problem. We think we know what is going on. Please reach out to us at [email protected].

This is actually an issue with old CoreMIDI. We have a fix for this problem coming out in a few days.
We did not change the numbering. Please see my longer note about this. We want to work with folks who are seeing this problem to understand what is causing it. Please reach out to us directly at [email protected]

We have a fix coming out for this in a few days. There is a bug in old CoreMIDI that is causing this. We re-engineered the broken CoreMIDI code with our own code to engineer out the problem. It will take a few days to clear this through Apple.
Much appreciated, Pat!
Many thanks for the video Pat @moForte 😊
Apologies for suggesting the preset numbering had changed 🤨
Awesome update! Thanks for the new strumming video too..
Nice @GeoTony I was waiting for you to do the lead part (the vocal lines) with your left hand, while doing the chords with your right.
Thanks for the video, and your captions were perfect 👍
Thanks also to @moForte for this amazing update!
And still no Left-Hand mode ... 🤨
We have an app note on how to achieve what you are calling left handed mode with the current GeoShred. I think that left handed mode is a misnomer. Note that I'm left handed, and I would describe it as reversed keyboard mode.
Architecturally, having pitch increase left to right is rooted in the lowest levels of the code all the way down to the iOS touch hardware SDK.
We are working on a new codebase that will include support for Windows and Android based on JUCE and not Apple's UIKit. That codebase is abstracted from left-right/right-left for pitch direction and will support a reversed keyboard. That code base is still several years away from reaching maturity. Note we are two person shop and we do everything, planning, information architecture, design, code architecture, code, test, preset voicing, release, marketing, video content creation, customer support, technical presentations, bookkeeping and tax preparation, between just the two of us.
A two person shop that I was under the impression was much larger. I applaud your work and have nothing but appreciation for small businesses.
I very much appreciate those guys. Both times I’ve emailed them I’ve gotten replies within/under a couple hours and once was very early in the morning. Definitely dedicated to their app which makes me feel way better about having spent the money on the full unlock. Plus it’s just an amazing app.
I saw that video and called it crazy ....
... but this sentence explains your thinking and why you made it.
Your definition of Left-Hand mode seems to be that the note/pitch order should be reversed, like on a left handed guitar.
But that is neither required nor wanted.
Left handed mode in Geoshred would only require the top controls reorded. Nothing more.
So starting on the right side with Octave Control, then Expression and so on.
Because as a lefty I have to cross my hands to reach the most used secondary elements. Oh, and the new strumming element should be on the other side too.
Lets say there would exist a left-hand keyboard. It would only mean that the controls, the mod wheel and the pitchbend wheel should be on the right side. Not that the notes/keys are reversed. They would obviously stay the same.
You said in your video comment that you made a survey, and left handed support was low in requests. But surveys can be a fallacy. The people that fill a survey are mostly people that are actively using the app. What if most lefties stopped using the app and never saw the survey, just like me.
About two years ago I discovered an amazing app called Geoshred. I was blown away so I wanted to learn this instrument to get good at it. And like every instrument, it requires time and dedication to master. But pretty soon I discovered the problem with the top controls. I either have to cross my hand or use an awkward arm position or use my "weak" hand to play. I hated it and gave up when i saw how long the app already existed. I did not understand that reordered controls are still not implemented.
Half a year ago I tried again but nothing had changed.
Yes time is money and development is time but I not only wanted to master Geoshred, I also wanted to buy all instrument packs. So you lost money on me because of this. Maybe there are a lot more lefties that left the app, maybe not.
I don't think it should be that complex to reverse the element order of the top controls, but who am i to judge.
These are very interesting comments. Thanks for the illuminating points.
