Updating the Audiobus forum

Hello!

I've spent much of the day fiddling around figuring out how to update the Audiobus forum's software to the latest version of Vanilla – no small undertaking these days, as the company who make the software don't exactly make it easy any more!

I think I'm mostly there, but I'd like to get some more eyeballs on it before I pull the trigger, as once we're upgraded, there's no going back.

I've set up a staging site: https://staging.forum.audiob.us - it's a copy of the forum as of about an hour or so ago.

Would you mind trying it out for me? Seeing if anything seems obviously amiss. Feel free to post and everything, use it as you would normally – but note that what you post won't be kept, though, as this is a copy. It's just a sandbox, so go nuts.

If there are no major problems, I might cross my fingers and pull the trigger on it all tomorrow.

  • Dark mode looks like this for me on the staging site.

  • This is how it looks to me normally

  • The formatting of the header/banner is wonky as you can see in the top picture.

  • Light mode's formatting is ok on the staging site.

  • Same for me as above.

  • I can confirm (latest Chrome on macOS) - light mode is ok but dark is screwed.

  • Here is what it looks like in dark mode inside a thread

  • The sidebar shows up in dark mode at the bottom of the screen

  • This looks odd to me.

  • Light mode good, dark mode weird as demonstrated by espiegel123.

  • Yep, dark mode buggered.

Michael, one thing I'd love to see, I don't know if it is possible.

Could the category be shown somewhere after (or before) a thread title. Currently I have my settings set to allow viewing of all post categories. But when I'm actually scanning through the posts, I often see titles that may be related to, for example, a desktop / hardware release or whatever, and often, if I could see that category in the thread title, I wouldn't waste my time clicking on it.

Could the forum show this info?

  • I've looked around a fair bit and tried posting comments and so on. It all seems to work ok - I can't find anything that's not right (except dark mode and the formatting above).

    It does show.

[edit] I see now you mean on iPhone. It shows on iPad already.

Mozilla Firefox on Mac, dark mode is skewed. When you switch back, light mode also gets destroyed.

I don't use iPhone, I use android, so that means it doesn't show on either android or iPhone, cheers, would be great if this was fixable

I think it’s a portrait vs landscape thing as it doesn’t show up in portrait on the iPad either. Things like that are usually easy to change in the style sheet. Probably the element is hidden below certain screen widths.

The dark mode is available in Firefox Mac (at the bottom of the page) but it's screwed up like in Safari, Edge, Chrome and certainly every browsers.
When going back to light mode, you have to reload the page to fix it ;-)

Every else seems to work ok, except the pictos right on the line like @qryss noticed.

Sorry, because I’m dramatic person, 🫣 I worded it wrongly. I know it's there, just without CSS (which I consider as a dark mode). You are right about reloading, it fixes the page.

Ah, it's not though - at least not on android. See attached screenshot, with my phone in landscape, no categories showing on or below thread titles.

Edit: for some reason today the AB Forum on chrome, android, is not letting me upload photos, so you'll have to trust me on that screenshot thing!

    Haha!

Hmm. Yeah, it’s starting to look like too much trouble. Think I might just stick with what we have. The password reset is busted, but at least nothing else is..

  • Well, maybe Android image loading is busted? Anybody else using android having problems today?

Something weird happens to the theme once we like a post. The bottom of the post gets cut off.
