Having a couple of graphic issues in both dark and light modes. iPhone 6s
This is a terrible, terrible idea! 😵💫
This will completely change the character of the forum. (imho)
In what way?
Because of the human factor. I’m not saying it will be for better or worse, depending on the community. But it will change the character of the forum for sure.
Rating posts would be a downer as it turns posting into a competition (at least in some people’s minds).
But if there's a chance it could be better, and perhaps exactly because of the human factor, that would be good right? Either way, everything changes
I've heard this argument before, but I don't necessarily follow. If a few people get kicks from racking up likes, I'm not seeing that as a huge negative overall. And on the occasions where people are seen to be abusing the system, why wouldn't it be dealt with in the same way as any forum abuse would be dealt with?
We already have a system of showing positive or negative emotions as reactions, so I'm not sure the huge distinction. For now, wanting to laugh (preferably) with somebody necessitates adding an entire post to do so. Seems like unnecessary bloat.
Being able to laugh and like seem is what I'm suggesting. No need for anything on the dislike end of the scale.
Even if you make it non anonymous, it will slightly help. We are already doing this with ‘+1’ but only for great ideas and helpful posts. With thumbs up for everything, thumbing will lose purpose.
Also anonymous haters will use thumbing up to mess things up just because they can.
This is my proposition (only if its must, my vote is for no thumbing up):
Likes (even without dislikes) is a horrible opinion in my view, here. I don’t see how it serves any useful purpose - the purpose of likes / dislikes on YT etc is to let the algorithm know what to feed you. Here it becomes just a dick-measuring / popularity contest. Absolutely terrible idea imo
Dark mode is not the same as the original as already mentioned by @espiegel123
Agree with @tja Please keep the fonts the same as the OG for posts.. easier to read
NO likes/dislikes please.. we are a beautiful group of people without all that noise..
If it’s not broke.. 🤷♂️
It also is open to abuse - if anyone wants to bear petty grudges or engage in passive aggressive behavior, they can add likes and dislikes accordingly. If it’s anonymous I’m sure it could encourage people to do click regardless of the content of a post.
I’m getting some weird pictures of my icon when I post something…
Absolutely. Anyway, it seems from what someone said earlier that Michael is not planning to add this, so no worries. I couldn't fathom he'd add something like this at a time such as now where the forum has pretty much a zero tolerance policy to members getting nasty. Zero chance of a like / dislike function being added, I'm sure.
Dark mode is a mess...
Yeah, no, I’m not doing that.
You could have won a NEOVA ring with that response. 😎
Awesome @Michael you know I’ve been interested in this, lol. I know you’ve been super busy so I figured the time would come when you were ready.
Had an issue sending a direct message today, kept saying no results found and wouldn’t let me just enter the name, it acted like it had to be recognized to even add a recipient to send it to. Just wanted to mention that.
No hyperlink for posts when using iPhone, at least couldn’t find it.
On staging.forum you mean? Or the actual one?
Yea let’s not get too crazy… I think some basic updates and fixes would be sufficient.
Oh, on this one, the actual. Just sending a direct message to a developer, trying to get their name, in the recipient slot would not work, and didn’t show up in the auto complete drop down to then select it. It kept disappearing when trying to just type it in the go to the message text. They might be a new member if that effects anything…
@Michael Missed the 2nd half of your original post. My bad. Let me try that sandbox out.
It's all or nothing - I update to the new version, or leave it as it is now. I'm not a PHP developer (and have no wish to be!), so those're the options.
I see btw that my android phone is once again able to upload photos, here on the real forum, whereas all day yesterday it couldn't. Anyway, glad that is fixed, whether by luck or by design
Haha, was nothing to do with me!
To clarify, I didn't suggest including dislikes. And bearing grudges, engaging in passive-aggressive behaviour is already against the ethos/guidleines set out here:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/54919/welcome-to-the-audiobus-forum-some-quick-ground-rules#latest
That makes everything clear enough that the expectation is for members to act in a friendly and conducive manner, so not sure why any extra precautions are necessary. Arguments against, so far, seem to be coming from members who certainly wouldn't abuse the system themselves and seem to cash out at "Some of you might play badly, so now none of you get to play".
Anyway, I'll leave it there.
