It's not exactly compatible with Prophet V patches, since this is the VS. Only patches that don't use the V part of the VST will work.

Thanks for the clarification. I was just parroting something I read in the description (and above). I don't have the VST version anyway (or any of its patches).

iMini has some weaknesses/issues, but wealth of preset content is not one of them. Excited to hear the "new, old" sounds of iProphet.

QUESTION: As I read closer, is this "Core MIDI" (hardware) only? Or is it also "Virtual MIDI" (software/other apps)? I only really use Virtual MIDI. I seemed to recall that iMini does "work" with Virtual MIDI, though there are some issues with stuck notes, etc.

  • I was hoping for this! Unlike iMini, iProphet is polyphonic inside Tabletop!

    Thanks @DanWalton.

  • Strange, version is 1.0.1 and not 1.0
    Anyone bought it already?

  • Does not work inside BM2, via IAA, and BM2 isn't working with AB2... So if BM2 is your main DAW u can save the 10$ on this one pending fixes...

  • @littlewoodg can you please confirm if it supports midi channels, or if it is like imini, where you can't assign it to a midi channel
    Tks!

  • Here is the video that was restricted the other day.

This is great. I've been waiting for a Prophet VS emulation for the iPad for a long time. I have been browsing and playing with the many patches and one of the patches called 'Filmusic'' was used at the beginning of Prince's U Got The Look. :)

    Yes, channels are selectable.

Sorry I meant the Prophet VS. All this excitement made the misprint. LOL

Channels are selectable, and you can record tracks inside BM2 using synths keys, but the synth is not midi sequenceable or playable from inside BM2-
    Kinda like iMini, unlike iSEM

  • App store text says audiobus compatible. Anyone tested this?

  • Just saw that it has midi channels! Fantastic!

Like iMini, iProphet only plays in monophonic in Tabletop.

Edit... It's working in polyphonic now.

  • Tks @littlewoodg I guess I was watching the video while you posted

No worries, I'd thought maybe you were hoping this was a Prophet 5 emulation, which it is not.

Someone on the facebook group tested...
    Working fine, apparently...

With midi, it listens but doesn't seem to work with setting virtual midi to its own midi. Example midiSequencer set to send out its midi works but setting it to send out to iProphet does not. Similar results with Arpeggionome Pro. To get around this you can use MidiBridge so that apps like SoundPrism and Orphion work. You also need to launch the app sending midi first so it can see it inside or outside of AB. The little red light to the right of the midi will light up when it receives midi. Running iOS 7.1.2 on an iPad mini retina.

  • From http://www.synthtopia.com/content/tag/prophet-vs/:

About the Prophet VS, Sound On Sound wrote:

The Prophet VS really sounds like no other synthesizer of its time — and, I would venture, none since. Capable of emulating a Prophet 5, an Oberheim, a PPG or a Jupiter 8, the VS can also create sounds that are unmistakably DX7-like, and still others that are completely unique to it. Some sounds caused such a sensation when the Prophet VS was first heard that they have become a part of synthesis folklore. Patch 69, ‘Filmusic’, is one such sound, a haunting combination of strings and pads that swirl from left to right and back, as the oscillators seem to vie for attention.

In the VS, Sequential practically single-handedly pioneered the use of stereo and multi-dimensional sound positioning for keyboard players, giving them a totally new way of expressing themselves. One indication of the popularity of the VS method and sounds is the sheer number of film soundtracks that were composed almost entirely using the Prophet VS. These often haunting, flowing textures are unmistakable, and they’re still used to this day. Nine out of ten movie sound designers will own a Prophet VS — and treasure it.

Glad to see Retronyms implement the same precision dials they came up with in iMPC Pro. Good stuff, really liking this one. Definitely some different sound spice to all the VAs and whatnot on the AppStore. :)

Presets menu is blank within Tabletop. Presets seem to be there but not the names. If you touch in categories they appear "bass" etc (only one category shows at a time, once touched) and you can touch in each slot and a preset appears but only one by one... Would be nice to see all the categories and preset names at once...
    iOS 8- iPad 4

It must be a iOS 8 bug because the presets show on Tabletop on iOS 7.1.2

  • Does the sound quality compete with Isem?

  • I would say it does. Not the character, at all, but the quality is there.

  • If I launch the IProphet in Audiobus, it crashes Ultraphaser. How weird is that? Remove it, and insert another synth like ISem, and the Ultraphaser comes back to life.
Hmmm. Still at IOS 7.1.2, newest Audiobus version.

  • Don't know about the long and short of it, but I do know that half an hour spent just spinning through the presets is like biting uncertainly into a biscuit and finding yourself with a mouthful of very fine cake. Nice things here.

  • iProphet is not showing up in the App store for me in the US. Has anyone else seen this or heard about iProphet being pulled? I'm on iPad Air iOS 7.1.2, but had a coworker who is on iOS 8.0.2 verify that he also can't view/purchase the iProphet. Maybe it's just our office !! :(

  • It's right here in the US App Store, just checked again and I'm seeing it.
