Does anyone know where the heck I can report an iProphet bug?

The support link from iTunes leads to a broken page on the Arturia website. The iProphet section on Arturia's site has no support link or info. Retronyms doesn't even have the app listed on their page.

It really shouldn't be so difficult for a paying customer to report an issue.

you might wanna try in the impc thread (chuckles), on a serious note just put a message in a bottle and throw it in the Sf bay, retro will get it.

@R_2 thanks for the link to the email.

There is a bug when switching presets; certain presets are screwing up any presets loaded afterwards. It seems that some settings are being carried over, which means that you can never trust your patch settings. This is reproducible after a reinstall, using an iPad Air 2 on 8.1.2.

I came across this obvious issue about 10 minutes after purchasing...

How pervasive is this problem? I'm in the process of building up a library of my own presets so this news is very distressing. Since I've just been loading up init patches and programming away, not using the patches yet, I haven't noticed the bug/issue.

    DAMMIT.

  • I have found several presets that are OBVIOUSLY triggering this issue, but the question is how many more are altering things more subtly...

  • @busker do you have an example preset? I want to check this myself.

I was having strange problems with mono/poly settings but as I wrote above these were fixed in the update with the addition of a Unison switch on the fx page.

However, there is an issue with some presets loading with max modulation. For instance: 'Factory > 11-Vocal'. Select this coming from preset 10 and it's modulation is max (full vibrato). Select it coming from preset 12 and it's fine (no max modulation).
Perhaps that's what you're talking about?

Another small bug still in v1.1: load preset 'Demo > 80sVocal'. Notice how Hold is switched on but not actually active.

I've made 23 of my own sounds since release and luckily haven't seen these issues with those.

    Which ones?

This may be what @R_2 is speaking about, I didn't have the time to narrow down specifically which parameter(s) were being affected. This is what I wrote in an email to Jay:

I have found multiple patches that exhibit this issue, but to start with:

    1) select factory patch 54-FRIPPINO
    2) use the 'next preset' button to select patch 55
Result: from now on, selecting successive patches (e.g 56, 57, 58, 59 etc.) will cause those patches to exhibit an obviously incorrect sound (verified by playing a note on the on-screen keyboard)

    To rectify the issue:
    1) Switch to factory patch 65-KALIMBA
    2) Use the 'previous preset' button to go backwards
Result: the patches that were previously affected now sound normal.

^ confirmed, that's the same thing as in my post.

Someone already wrote about this on Synthtopia on October 4th:
    http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2014/09/30/arturia-iprophet-brings-sequential-circuits-prophet-vs-sound-to-ipad/comment-page-1/#comment-673083

Switching off (and on again) the Mod Wheel in the Mod Matrix solves it (temporarily).
Definitely something that has to be looked at.

Losing custom presets through the iOS 'cleaning' process is a real concern.
    As already mentioned: http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/89185#Comment_89185

It also happened to me. All my presets were wiped after using an app which forces the cleaning process on iOS. How is it possible that iProphet's custom presets are 'junk files' that can be deleted by the iOS cleaning process...??

  • How does this IOS cleaning process work? I'd it an automatic process? Can it be disabled?

  • R_2R_2
    edited January 2015

    ^ can't be disabled afaik.

But the real question should be: how do we get developers to make sure files like these cannot be deleted by the 'cleaning' process.

After all, these are not just some cache files FFS!

My Animoog's IAP timbres were also missing after the process. But these can easily be restored and luckily my custom presets were still there.

  • ^ does this also happen with OS cleaning functions, or just with third-party apps?

From reading @Synco 's post (link above) the cleaning proces initiated by iOS deletes them too.

Scary part is, we don't know exactly when and what triggers it (assumingly limited space on the device is a reason for the process to run?)

Backup to iTunes often...(I wish all synth apps included the option to easily export/import user bank by email).

  • I gave up spending a bunch of time saving my own presets in iprophet until i can get a bigger, better ipad. I love it, but it makes my ipad 2 catch a fire. However, i got really good at programing it from a few saved presets. Also, has anyone noticed when you sweep down the filter quickly it is kind of slow to react? And how do set the tempo?

  • Can someone with iFunbox please check in which directory iProphet saves user presets? I'd do it myself, but my ancient computer can't run iFunbox (or iTunes for that matter).

    Is it:

    • [Application_Home]/Documents

    or

    • [Application_Home]/Library/Caches directory

    Or perhaps even another directory.

    Thanks in advance!

  • edited January 2015

I agree big time! Let's hope the synth developers create some kind of standard where this is possible.

Has any one had any luck editing the preset files as text files? I have managed to download and upload the MyPresets.provbank file again, but once uploaded, the presets are gone - the file is not read - and the next time I save a preset, it starts with a fresh one. I'm using BBedit on a Mac with Unix line breaks.

@mana if you have a chance to comment on this, I would be very grateful.

What I'd like to do is save all the factory presets with delay turned off and then re-upload as user presets. I think I've managed to figure out how to change the delay setting. It's not totally clear how to combine the factory files into one user bank, but I think I can figure it out. It was way simpler with iMini - one file per preset, bulk search and replace.

PS I know it's the wrong thread, but if anyone knows how to bulk edit the iSEM .obsp patch files, I'd love to know about it. It seems they are some kind of binary data, not text.

@Captainjc Could you tell me in which directory iProphet's user presets are saved? (See my question above)

And how does that compare to iMini and iSem's location of them?

  • iProphet: /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/[sandbox ID]/Documents/MyPresets.provbank
This is where iTunes file sharing points as well. I had been using iFile (jailbroken) to upload via Webdav before, but I also tried with iTunes file sharing just now. It also didn't work. It just shows no user presets in iProphet anytime you upload anything over the MyPresets.provbank file (even if you quit the app and clear the cache). Clearing the cache for me otherwise didn't delete the presets.

iMini stores a .minibank file of all user presets in the same places as iProphet, but also stores them individually. Those were the ones I was able to modify. They are in:
    /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/[sandbox ID]/Library/Application Support/Machines/MiniVController/Presets/My Presets/[Type Folder]/*.miniv

iSEM also has a My Exported Presets.obsx file in the same place as the above two, but keeps individual files in
    /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/[sandbox ID]/Library/Arturia/Preset Library/User/My Presets/*.obsp
I was able to upload all the factory presets to that location, I just wasn't able to edit them with a text editor.

After the first two, I thought it was a bit strange that there weren't individual files for iProphet, but I looked everywhere. Weirdly, I did find, in the bundle folder for iProphet, what appears to be factory presets for all the other Retronyms apps, DrumDeranger, MPC, MPC Pro, etc.

Seemed sort of weird to me that all 3 apps used a different format for presets and preset organization. Seems a bit like rebuilding the wheel every time.

  • @Captainjc Thanks!

Good to know iProphet's user presets are not in some cache directory. But still confused why they are deleted during a 'cleaning' process. Reluctant to create new sounds after losing 30 presets...

  • @R_2 yeah, i don't get too crazy with programming my own presets. the biggest bummer for me about these arturia apps is how resource intensive they are. i first tried them out on my wife's ipad 2, and there was some crackle and general breaking up when the polyphony got up to 4-5 notes, then i got a new ipad mini for myself, figuring it would be more than enough to handle it, but still happens quite a bit (yes, i have most other apps closed).

the other day i was trying to sequence iSEM with littlemidi and run it through the iVCS spring reverb via audiobus and it was randomly just turning to static. hard to tell what was causing it, but i could see the vu meters in iVCS jumping so it would seem it was an issue with the signal before that.

that and not supporting program change is fairly annoying too. unbelievable to me that so many apps don't. i hope that changes over time.

Sounds more like a resources issue, my iPad would emit a shrill farting sound if I tried running those apps all at once.

  • Same thing here when I run brisket and beans together without a Limiter.

  • what version of the ipad mini are we talking about here? I have the original with only 512 mb ram and it runs most of iprophet fine. The double ram should be more than enough with one of the newer ipad minis no?

  • @Tritonman2 Mini 2. I thought the same, but sadly, I didn't notice much of an improvement from the iPad 2.

@monzo Yeah I think I said "resource intensive" no?

  • @Captainjc, have you tried that chain but swapping out iVCS for one of the AUFX apps they have a CPU load indicator may be worth a check if you've got one of them.

    @JohnnyGoodyear said:

You don't happen to be playing that in A Flat-ulence Major!

  • @knewspeak Believe me, I am far more likely NCO-material...

You wanna dial up a bit of compression for that boss, otherwise you'll be leaking out of the cans.

    @Captainjc said:

    Many thanks

  • @knewspeak I'll give that a shot.

  • i had it since release but just recently i really discovered it.This thing sounds HUGE but it's a shame they never reverted the stupid design to replace velocity with acceleration. That makes the iProphet even more vintage than the original. That one HAS velocity

still a chance this will ever come?
