well if Matt decides to add me, i am always ready to help ;) .. i also have some experience with other developer named Matt 🤣

  • This one looks like another hit! :) I'm definitely buying.

    What does NE stand for?

It stands for Super Ninja Entertainment Synth. There's no other possible thing it could stand for ;)

Legally, any other game system name would be purely coincidental o:)

This looks fun and offbeat, which I like. We've got Pro Tools, Logic Pro, all this pro stuff, which is great, but I'm up for some Fun Tools and Logic Fun and more stuff off the beaten path.

@analog_matt - Looking forward to this new app. I've really come to appreciate your work and the work of a lot of these folks that have been doing such as creating free presets including Dean Daughters at Electronisounds and just caught an interview this week with @MobyPixel (Nick Culbertson), another contributor. The love and sheer amount of effort that goes into these apps is incredible.

P.S. - Matt - Since you let the cat out of the bag that a D1 reboot is in the plans, it would be great if it supported microtonal scales like the original - it's one of the very few apps that will integrate with Wilsonic. In any case, its great to hear that it's getting an update.

Not soon enough! Kidding, I can't wait to buy it.

And, don't worry – Next up will be the Digital D1 reboot

Really looking forward to this, though it dawned on me that it might not include the original/current presets. Are you able to confirm whether that is or isn't the case?

And congrats on your imminent release :)

    That’s a very generous price!

  • Sounds good - I'd love the sounds from that C64 tracker app (that I can't remember the name of) to end up in something one day! It's exiled to InterApp Audio and will never get an AUv3 version, but it had some lovely patches in it.

    SidTracker64?

SidTracker64 still works quite OK as an IAA in AUM (launch first and connect later) and the export is also pretty for chopping up to samples.

Once one has dissected how the sounds constructed made (It's pretty simple synthesis with plenty of fast 'control tables' for pitch, waveform, pulse-width and filter) it's quite easy to make sound in the same ballpark with for example Drambo.

A CV/Gate sequencer clocked with a 50Hz UniPolar Square LFO works quite well as a SidTracker 'table substitute' with 16 steps.
The Graphical Modulator and Envelope with grid options work well too as modulation sources.

As a bonafide 'chip-tune junkie' there's no better tool available than Drambo at the moment.

    Cheers!

And, don't worry – Next up will be the Digital D1 reboot

Really looking forward to this, though it dawned on me that it might not include the original/current presets. Are you able to confirm whether that is or isn't the case?

Thanks! and YES, it will be a new app (KING OF DIGITAL) but it will also include all the original D1 presets. There's like over 600+ of them. So that should keep people busy 😂

And to manage expectations, there will be few new features as engineering all the original engine features in this beast and keeping CPU nice and low is my biggest challenge. Because the original D1 was made before AUv3, everything is being done from scratch. It will, however, add the main 4 things people request: 1) Stability 2) iPhone Support 3) On board record button 4) More AUv3 instances running simultaneously.

Plus, the new UI feels easier to use.

And, no one really requested it, but King of Digital will also have over 100+ new multi-sampled sound sources that will be pretty, pretty cool! You'll be able to mix and match those sound sources with the legacy presets

Will follow up here when it gets closer with more details, but should have a beta in as little as 2 months from now (!)

Not sure how to do the upgrade for people who already have D1. The Bundle situation w/ the App Store is a mess. One of the things I'm toying around with is simply keep the price $4.99 or less (maybe even $3.99 the first couple of weeks and sending notifications through the D1 app) the first 6 months so everyone who had D1 has a chance to get it before it goes to $10.

What do you folks think the most fair thing to do is? (There's so much work, I can't justify completely free - and it wouldn't be sustainable; But $3.99 seems like a fair upgrade price considering all the new sounds?)

  • What’s the problem with bundles?

Anything under 5 is an insta buy form me, but I’m from South America I expect people from developed countries to be able to pay more :D

    What’s the problem with bundles?

    Several challenges:

    • Sometimes a bundle isn't approved until days after an app is released (see a prominent release earlier this month where Youtubers had to delay their videos)
++ This causes confusion for customers and developers
++ Momentum is lost on sales
++ People are unhappy who accidentally bought before the bundle came out, etc, spiking returns

    • If the Bundle is $9.99 and the app is $9.99, new people might buy the bundle instead of the app. But, we don't want new people buying D1 and hope to retire it after people have had a chance to upgrade. There will hopefully be no need to keep D1 on your device once King of Digital is out, saving you some space!

(For those new to bundles, wondering why the price is the same on the bundle, you only pay the difference of what you paid before. So if you bought D1 for $4.99, you'd pay $4.99 for the bundle.)

Now that I type all that, I'm gonna try to rule out bundles. 😂

Another thing I was considering would be that the D1 sounds would be an IAP that would be free the first 6 months. But that is also challenging in that sound designers might mix the new sounds w/ the old D1 sounds.

A low entry price seems like it would cause the least headaches and give musicians the best deal 😊

I would never ask for something with that much work in it for free. I’ve had D1 for years and love it! I’m just excited at the update. $3.99-$4.99 for an upgrade price sounds more than fair to me.

  • I was gonna just wait 6 more hours and 6 minutes to find out for myself, but it’s too much. Will NESynth also be universal?

  • edited August 2023

It is universal for your iPhone/iPad. And it looks like it's done processing in the app store early (at least in the USA)

    Grab it here:

  • Just did! ❤️

  • Downloading right now. I’m stoked 🙌🏻

  • Surprised there’s not more attention. Unless it’s only our in select places right now. I’m a big fan so far. Some really beautiful sounds in here that go beyond usual chiptune sounds. Some great preset work @Gavinski @TheGarageBandGuide

  • Instahbuy as I must support Matthews awesome APPS. I have to collect the whole set! Best of luck in selling bucket loads of this Kwell new app. Cheers, Elektrik Diva

Thanks! Yeah isn't this a no brainer at the price, even just to get so many presets. I mean it's even cheaper than a cheap gumroad preset pack. Worth buying. Glad u like my presets!

Absolutely and the sequencers in all the new apps are super easy to dial in and get some useful stuff out of it. The new filters sound much better as well. I can definitely see this up there with King of FM and VHS as one of my favorite AudioKit apps. Top 3 contender for sure.

  • Probably cause most the western world is asleep. I’ve been busy playing it. Now I must sleep. I dig it so far. I have no shame with playing just the presets so far. Beautifully dark.
