I notice that there's already a ChordBank in the App Store with nearly 6K ratings:

    https://apps.apple.com/app/chordbank-guitar-chords-tuner/id397602509

If you suspect that this name similarity may eventually become a drag on your app's adoption, I suggest changing your app's name. The sooner the better.

Yes, i found that app after the release at the app store. Dont know why the system was approve that.

    Possible dumb question.

How do I get this working with Beatmaker 3 and say, Poison synth ?

Add Poison to a track in BM3 and then add ChordBank as a MIDI fx for that track. When you are in the pads view there is a little icon for adding MIDI FX in the left corner. It’s the same as using any other MIDI FX processor in BM3.

  • Thanks for the continued updates! It’s a great app.

  • @unbrokendub Thanks for this wonderfull free app! Can i suggest one more addition? I would love an inversion knob. It would work like this:
Noon would be no inversion, for example C Major.
Dial turned left is inversion -1 ( CM/G) and -2 (CM/E) going down the scale.
Dial turned right is inversion +1 (CM/E) and +2 (CM/G) going up the scale.
Is this something you would consider?

Will think about. But another new knob will break the layout(now it perfect match the app icon =) )

  • @unbrokendub Maybe 2 ‘extra’ buttons instead of a dial so you can still match the app icon beneath the centre dial? Anyway, I assure you i won’t mind if it has one button more then the icon ;)
The big advantage if inversions would be that together with a midi controller or an app like surface or loopy pro with it’s buttons or dials chordbank would become very useable for on the fly composition instead of having to go back into the pianoroll to edit things in.
Thanks for responding and thinking about my suggestion and for this lovely free tool!

Thank you so much for this great update. Great new features!

Although I'm unable to see the MacOS AUv3 plugin on any of my DAWs (Live, Reaper). I can successfully launch ChordBank in standalone, supposedly initializing the plugin. But still not showing on AUv3 available plugins on the DAWs.

I have a Macbook Air M1 with MacOS Ventura 13.6. Are there some minimum requirements that my system doesn't met?

EDIT: I've tested it on another M1 Mac with the same OS version and ChordBank is seen on Logic Pro as a MIDIFx plugin. So I think it's a specific problem with Ableton Live and Reaper. Does anyone have more information about Ableton Live support for MacOS AUv3 compatibility? (I have Ableton Live 11.3.2)

    Cheers!

    ChordBank updated to version 1.1
Added a lot more chord banks + ported all banks from Schwarzonator(you will find them in the end of the list, and they worked exactly like they work in schwarzonator).

Added Random knob and Velocity knob.

Also now you can run ChordBank on macOS with Apple Silicon.

*About velocity knob: if input velocity 127 and knob set to 127 - output will be also 127. But if, in example, knob is set to 50 - each note in the chord will have random velocity from 50 to 127.

    Have fun :)

Yes, not every DAW support auv3 midi fx. Ableton still doesn’t and this is sad. But great to know it is working in logic!

  • I love this app. I’ve been finding it very useful. Thank you for making it. I noticed that it currently isn’t showing up in the App Store. Has it, or will it be rereleased under a different name? @unbrokendub

I do have one question as to how it works. While choosing the different chords/scales to work from, how does it, or is there a way to keep it in a certain key or tonic, or is everything based around whatever note is being fed to it on a note by note basis?

As @mojozart mention, that the already existed ChordBank app ask me to delete my app under this name. So i'm still thinking how to name for republishing)

About chords/scales : inside of the app just a table of chords, that are fired by input note. So basically speaking output chord not correlated to input note.

Dude, call it Chord Roulette. Seems accurate based on your description of how chords are generated.

O, I like it! That really fits the idea. Will publish app under this name soon.
    Thanks!

You’re wecolme. Love this app and the surprises it brings. 😁

  • So the app available again under new name: https://apps.apple.com/app/chord-roulette/id6470079737

Thanks again to CracklePot for name idea.

  • Hello everyone.

Just bump this thread for searching developers who can make vst midi devices. I opened the code behind this app: https://github.com/unbrokendub/ChordBank_App

And would like to use this on PC or Mac also, but dont have any experience in developing vst.

Maybe you know someone who can help with this? Or maybe you know good tutorials for that?

    Cheers
    Denis

  • Very cool…is there a way to choose the key?

Thanks... I guess I'll just pull up a keyboard and piano app to figure it out.

Got it.. this is cool.. love it..

  • Pretty nice. It's an interesting way to just generate random chords belonging to a scale, just to get a sense of the harmonic space in the scale. And you can't beat the price - free.

  • Very nice plug-in! Thank you for your generous gift to the iOS music community.

  • Hey everyone. Just wanted to say that I’m not plan to renew my Apple Developer subscription(little bit expensive), that ends in the middle of October. And from my understanding the app will not be available on App Store. So there is last month to download it.

And thanks to everyone who supported Chord Roulette!

    Cheers

Here's hoping you are able to come back in the future. Thanks for the app and the heads up.

This app has been very useful for all kinds of improvisations and experiments. I keep finding ideas for it. So it's sad you must give it up. I hope it keeps working into the future.

  • Thank you and good luck on your future endeavours
