  • You know I totally forgot about this. I’m planning on getting a 404 soon and am looking at a synth to pair with it, and having this app (and the 404s ability to act as an interface) would make for a killer triple thread. Thanks for bringing this back to my attention.

How do you like the new Circuit? Seems like the synth engine sounds excellent. I’m a huge fan of Novation.

You are welcome  It is perfectly possible to use a controller other than a Midimix or an LCXL. The Midi mappings are mostly the same as for the circuit itself. I have listed all mappings for the Midimix and the LCXL here. You can use either version and just set up the mapping in your controler accordingly.

I also like Novation products a lot, they are very well designed and very intuitive. The tracks was a big step ahead in my opinion. (I bought a used original again after selling it a few years ago and was amazed at how vintage and limited it feels after getting used to the tracks). It's my absolute favorite device and I always end up with something creative and useful.

The sound doesn't have a particularly "analog" feel to my ears, but the good effects make up for it.
What I really appreciate is the large number of modulators. At first I thought it was just a marketing gimmick, but it's incredible how versatile and crazy the sounds are that you can create with it.

Thanks :) I’ve always been interested in getting a Circuit. The Mono Station seemed really great too. I’d love to have it eventually as well.

One question, does the Circuit send audio over usb? Or is it midi only?

does not have audio over USB, and Novation told it's not possible to add via future firmware updates.

anyway, it's my to-go machine to pair with iPad.
fits any backpack, and i could play a gig with just iPad & Circuit Tracks.

Thanks :) I could always run the audio through the 404 but usb audio helps.

  • Short update: I designed an overlay for the LaunchControl XL that can be used with NC Editor.
It's super productive to have the LCXL ready for basic parameter editing while you have the screen for other parameters!

You can purchase a professional overlay from a production partner or just get a DIY template.
(Please visit the deepsounds store for more instructions)

Please note that the templates are not well tested yet as I do not own a cutting plotter. If anyone has a cutting plotter available and would like to help improve the template, Please get in touch!

  • Uhh would love to see that setup in action.
Amy thoughts about posting a live performance with subtitles of the proccess or something similar soon?

Guess it's time to pull out the old circuit again.

Right? I sold mine because I couldn't find my flow with it. I had every editor. I seem to remember some kid on YouTube produced an outstanding guide for the Novation editor and I still couldn't get into it, despite being so helpful. More here if anyone is interested.

    Time to buy another one.

Yeah, I should really do a video about the editor. I'm thinking about how I could generate more reach and a video would be the obvious thing. (Even more so for the brand new soundpack I just released ;) ;), really, who buys a soundpack without listening to it.)

But I've been shying away from it for weeks. Videos are pretty new to me, I don't have any decent equipment and no idea about video editing... so it's going to be a steep learning curve. And then suddenly there are tons of things that are much more important... :-)

But hey, maybe your message gives me the push I need

A video on the editor would be great! (It doesn’t have to be a state of the art video, either :) )

  • Bought it straigt away :) BUT is TouchOSC MKI compatible?

No, unfortunately not. It wouldn't be possible to implement all the features in MK1. I wrote a short blog post on that topic back in November, but I now also added a note to the product description to clarify it.

I can really recommend the new version, though. It is much more powerful and versatile. There is also a super active and friendly community on fb and discord sharing their knowledge.

Anyway, if that is not for you just contact me via the store and I'll refund your money.

Thanks for the clarification. No need for refund I will update my TouchOsc as I reckon the Circuit Og and Tracks community really needed such a script. Thanks

This is outstanding, and sorely needed. I downloaded the TouchOSC demo on Windows and the demo script but I can't get it to change anything. I have connected the ports to MIDI in TouchOSC and tested it on Components - it works there. I'm sure it's a dumb setting I'm missing though, can you suggest what it might be?

Edit: oh. Found the reason - the midi channels are hardcoded to 1 & 2...

  • edited November 16

As @BoxOfSnoo correctly pointed out, the synths' midi channels were hardcoded. I really messed that up: At first I totally missed that the channels are adjustable and when I discovered the flaw, I decided that no one would notice (mainly because I wasn't to keen on a code replacement orgy :# ). But well... you did

    So here's a

    Feature update!

On the patch page there is now a midi channel display for the current synth:

Clicking/Tapping the display will open a channel dialog, were you can set the synths' midi channels:

(I would have liked to implement this automatically, but I could not find out the corresponding request :/ ).

    Parameter reset

A rather subtle feature, but I was really missing that one in my workflow:
Each parameter can now be reset to the value of the original patch by holding down the corresponding label for half a second. You can now play around with parameters without having to reload the whole patch (thus overwriting other changes you may actually like) if you messed it up.

For all matrix-like parameter sets (modulator and macro destinations) you'll have to simultaneously hold down the header labels. Here is an example:

    • Pressing and holding the "1 Oscillator" label for 500ms will reset Macro 1.
    • To reset End of destination B, press "B" and "END" at the same time.

Both features are now included in both the main version and the demo

I also updated the manual. Enjoy!

  • AMAZING! Thank you! This thing is kind of a masterpiece...

I've been trying the desktop demo and it's very well done indeed. Can the overall Circuit filter knob be adjusted for resonance anywhere?

Not in the Editor (I don't think it fits in the scope) . But: I'm in the middle of developing a 2nd app that will cover more of the performance aspects of the Circuit and it will definitely be in there. So have a little patience

Well, well, just half a year later and here we go :)
I have just released another TouchOSC app called NC Companion which allows you to control almost all parameters of the Novation Circuits - including the global filter resonance! Yay!
There are many more features in the app, I started a new discussion about it here:
    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/61007/nc-companion-new-app-for-novation-circuit-tracks-and-og#latest

The app and a demo are available in the deepsounds store:

Bought the new app, and it seems to work really well with my original Circuit. It’s very easy to change between your editor and your new app in Touchosc, too. Thanks very much indeed.

Would you like to create analogish sounds on the Novation Circuit? Or just explore a new quick and easy way to create patches?

Then check out Vanilla, an alternative patch editor for both the Circuit OG and Tracks:

    • simplified interface, all controls on one page
    • Vintage analog synth style workflow
    • One-knob functions for DRIFT (analog osc instability simulation) and FAT (supersaw effect)
    • Midi learn for external hardware controller
    • Comes with 64 ready to use presets

You can listen to the presets here:

Get Vanilla as a free addon to either the deepsounds soundpack https://payhip.com/b/NQHvB

or the NC Companion app https://payhip.com/b/AULM0

  • Tempting…
Shouldn‘t the right label OSC1 below the waveshape selectors read OSC2?

Oh wow, du hast recht! :o

I checked the repository, it's in there since the very first version - never saw it

    Thanks!

  • Oh wow, Vanilla is amazing. feels like what the Circuit editor should’ve always been! So easy to make great sounds in no time.

And the NC editor feels like it’s unlocked the Circuit it a huge way too. Thanks for making these great tools 😄

A bit of a feature request - something that’s always felt like it’s missing in the Circuit for me is pitch bend with an external controller (just for some easy expression when playing live). I wonder if there would be a way to map this automatically to osc pitch within these apps?

Thanks! I feel the same way, I am supposed to say that of course ), but it really became my go to editor. It perfectly matches the circuit in ease and fun.

"Pitch" (as used in a pitchbend) is only available as a macro setting. So the only way to use your pitch wheel on the circuit is to first set a macro to "pitch".

If you have a programmable pitch wheel, you can then set that up to the according midi cc (80 - 87 on the synth's channel).

If not, you can use NC Companion to map native midi pitchbend to that macro. Did you get Vanilla with NC Companion? I can give you detailed instructions on how to set it up in case you want to go that way.

  • Whoa, I just wanted to check to see if there was any new updates or comments, and found the NC Companion and Vanilla. WHOA. Vanilla was just what I needed - I sometimes find my Tracks synth engine very challenging to program, sometimes I just want a basic synth to goof around with, and this sure fits the bill. It's almost like getting a bonus synth in my setup.

Then after goofing with Vanilla, I said "Oh I wish I could..." and then switch to NC Companion and yup, there it is.

I was kinda confused which part was NC-Companion and which part was Vanilla, maybe you should add another screenshot with the Vanilla interface clearly labeled?

  • @BoxOfSnoo sorry, I don't understand the last 2 sentences... could you please explain a little bit more what you wanted to do and what confused you?

  • So I haven’t been able to read all this and do much research…

But i have the OG CIRCUIT.

I’m curious if this is a simple process to set up and use to control the circuit synth and sequencer parameters.

Also does it require being plugged in via usb or is their Bluetooth? My iPad USB c port is needed for my tx6 mixer and everything… so I’m not really sure if giving that up is beneficial

Right now the circuit is collecting dust because after a while if non use i forgot how to use it 😂

Is this a one time purchase app, to get everything on my circuit going or are their more iaps?

Thanks for any help or info

    I think…
Please note that you need touchOSC to run the app!
