  • Wow looks excellent. I’m a big fan of AudioModern, will definitely be getting this.

    Is there a price mentioned?

  • @robosardine Thanks for posting this👍😊
As far as i know it's out tomorrow, 1st November.

  • I'm a simple guy. I see Audiomodern, I buy.

In some cases you don’t even need to buy lol half their apps on iOS are free

Do you know the price or if there will be an intro price?

  • Anything that stutters, glitches, etc, count me in.

I can’t remember any of their apps being more than a tenner. We’ll find out very soon.

He mentioned $10 in the video.

  • Love the basic idea, and some of Doug's use cases are quite appealing and something I might use quite a bit.

With a few tweaks it would be a no-brainer for me e.g. if some of the global controls (e.g. filter, playhead direction) were per-step, as with other AudioModern plugins which have separate grids for volume, pan, etc.

Thanks! Wasn’t able to catch the whole thing. Sounds like a good price for what it does. Seems pretty fully featured.

  • Another app suffering from tiny-fonts & microscopic touch-zones syndrome.
Doesn't matter how good the DSP is if I can't see what the F is going on.

iPadOS has settings to increase the font-sizes but those setting is mostly ignored by music app developers.
They would get it 'for free' if they used UIKit or SwiftUI elements for the UI but no...

Yeah most AudioModern apps suffer from that unfortunately. It’s not bad enough that I can’t use them personally but would love if them and Baby Audio both prioritized the font situation.

  • @Samu and @HotStrange
Yep due to text size I am out, I have mailed them before about this
But I guess my eye sight is my problem
Sadly it is what it is

Agree. I bought almost all Audiomodern apps but, despite the really good generative “engines”, I hardly ever use them. The horrible downscaling of the UI, and the low contrast make them sadly unusable for me (I’m short sighted). For me a typical case of artistic design at the expense of usability.

Damn I feel for you guys. They make some of my most used apps so I’d be really bummed if I couldn’t have them. I can imagine it’s rough though. I have decent eyesight WITH my glasses but I could never use it without them lol

  • Awesome! Coincidentally I recently used a waaaaay more primitive stutter fx like this in Gadget (Bilbao) on some imported IA voice samples and that worked really well, and was thinking if something like this would be there as an auv3.

Yeah, most of their products are built for the desktop, and iOS is just an afterthought for them.

  • Does this do things that other apps we have don't? I don't use stutter effects that much, so am unsure. Maybe the panning? Though that would be easily enough done by using busses and 2 instances of any glitch app, then panning. UI is OK for me full size but definitely brutally small when the window is significantly sized down, even for people with good eyes, I'd imagine

Yeah the tiny UI is its biggest downfall. I think the app is fun. You can probably approximate it with other glitch effects apps but it’s got its own thing going at the same time. Turn the gate and smoothness all the way down and cranking the speed up can lead to some wild sounds. Has a built in multi mode filter as well.

It’s not gonna be a top 5 of the year or anything but I’m enjoying it.

Kind of reminds me of Looperator.

But Audio Modern's ubiquitous "auto randomise every x passes" button is a nice and unique feature. I'm not sure if you can do that with Looperator or other apps.

That's true! Can't remember if Looperator can do that, I don't think it does

That was my other thought tbh. I scoured the GUI hoping it did more than ratcheting, but it seems it doesn’t.

I am a big fan of Audiomodern apps and really want to love this, but SB Looperator does similar ratcheting effects on live audio, but adds a whole ecosystem of effect possibilities along with it, and I can create something very similar to Freezr using it.

Playbeat 3 is my goto drum app at the moment, but Playbeat 1 was very basic, so hoping Freezr undergoes a similar metamorphosis as it develops.

A couple of screengrabs from Looperator showing some of the ratcheting and randomisation features:

It won’t randomise every x passes but it does have quite sophisticated randomising features which will self randomise with each pass.

  • Not crazy about their other preset systems, but this one seems too cool to pass up.

You can insert random steps in Looperator, so some per-pass randomisation is possible, and it's also possible to create custom effect blocks, which contain further live randomisation, and it's a layer of depth I haven't really explored in Looperator.

So as usual, apps offer their own spin on things, but this is making me want to see how far I can push Looperator's capabilities in the glitching/ratcheting area, and see how close we might get.

Also, hopfully this might prompt Audiomodern to supercharge Freezr for v2!

Couldn’t agree more. Love their apps. Hate their preset system. I always feel like I’m just not getting it.

  • Putting a random lfo onto the quantisation is something else man 😙

  • I love what their apps do but the UI really gets in the way of usability a lot. It’s kind of annoying even on desktop unless I’m using my giant monitor
