I bought it last night, seems there is a new update today... Hope the 'Lock Parameters' show up in the next update... Locking 'Key and Progression' is a must when we don't have Midi Chord input..
    Thanks..

Yeah I’m hoping that comes soon in an update as well. It’s a really great app otherwise, though it would be cool to see the drums and percussion be taken a step further. Sometimes it’s nice to load Riffler in and let it do its thing with the drums in tandem.

Surprised that lock was left out..

  • It’s a nice general purpose MIDI generator. I started 3 copies with the “Ambient Chorus” PRESET:
    1. 8th notes
    2. 16th notes
    3. triplets

Then I changed “FEEL” controls to introduce more space in the sequences and imported all the MIDI output over to Staffpad for rendering. It sounds just as interesting in AUM using percussive instruments like mallet percussion, piano, plucked strings, etc.

Super track bro. You may have sold me both the flow app and staffpad too. Wow.

I keep trying to find ways to show that StaffPad could be useful even for those that are MIDI only in their DAW creativity. Still… you have to own an Apple Pencil for many critical gestures like adding or editing notes. But I’ve been importing MIDI from a dozen generators and saving hours of laborious and complex music handwriting.

@Paulieworld mentioned that he wanted to hear “Riffler Flow” driving Piano, Bass and Strings so I opened AUM and set up 4 Riffler Flwo instances with “Rock Ballad” PRESETS and various FEEL settings suitable for the target instrument like slow for bass, arpeggios for piano, strings, kalmiba:

    1. Piano High MIDI Channel 1 PianoTeq 8
    2. Piano Bass. MIDI Channel 2 “. “
    3. Bass MIDI Channel 3 iFretless Bass
    4. Xinematix Strings + Kalimba + Celesta
    5. Soft Drummer “Funky”
    6. GeoShred GeoFlute

  • No apology necessary. If I occasionally seem irked by some comment made here, it is likely to be a result of my irritable nature and my theatrical tendencies. Nevertheless, I appreciate the gesture.

Does it take more than five minutes to request to get a refund?
Is there a non-trivial (over 5 percent) chance I'll get denied?
If I'm declined, is a reason for that given?

I've spent a lot of time with Apple service reps on phones -- including a cumulative 17 years just on hold as my calls were being escalated to yet another Genius Bar alumnus.

I have learned that those fuckers will say anything anything they can come up with to deny relief for a legit claim. It's good to have an authoritative guide to the rules of the game before it's played. Not surprisingly, I don't think Apple publishes guidelines for iOS app returns, but I would happy out were I corrected.

Sorry for my pedantic comment. I have been fortunate so far with the Apple refund process, but I appreciate you letting us know of your experience and once again I apologize for appearing to be dismissive.

I got this last night. It has all the earmarks of a great composition tool, along the lines of Piano Motifs. I'm sure @GeoTony already knows about this, but I thought I'd ping him anyway, just to be sure. I know he will put this one to good use!

I was on my way to bed when I got an urge to check the forum. I'm glad I did. Thanks to @Mcd for the heads up on this. I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with this puppy!

  • Great tracks @McD , excellent examples of what can be done with these generative apps. Thanks @Paulieworld , this is one I’ll be keeping an 👁️ on!

I really like that. A lot.
Like a collaboration between Carl Orff and Aaron Copland.
    It sounds great.

Yes but the SWAM product available inside GeoShred’s store called GeoFlute.

It sounds excellent. I’m planning on slowly acquiring the SWAM stuff inside Geoshred.

  • I just started using this and I found something that could be a problem. It’s probably something stupid on my end, but I thought I’d ask. I start a pattern in Flow, then I toggle over to Piano Motifs, and the Flow audio drops out. I looked for some sort of background audio setting and couldn’t find anything to explain it. I would like to hear Flow playing while I try other parts in other apps. Any ideas?

@McD Have you run across this? You appear to have this running like a Swiss watch.

I run them both in AUM… are you using them as standalone apps? I can test that.
TESTED: I looks like Riffler Flow doesn’t support background audio. I thought I recalled Piano Motifs
have an internal piano sound… IO can’t find it to see if it output while closed.

Have you tried them both in Cubasis yet?

Have not tried in Cubasis yet. No problem. I think I have a workaround. I’ll let you know.

    Both.

Not really a "workaround", just a little extra work to get around the 'problem'. Which may not actually be a problem, but an opportunity in disguise. It will cause me to make a change in my 'usual'. I think I will just find something I like, and save it as audio. Then just bring it into Cubasis and start adding stuff around it. I usually like to have these things mostly worked out before I bring them into the DAW. It's a bit like working blind. It might result in things I wouldn't have found any other way. In any case, I like the built-in sounds and hear plenty of fun things to do with them. The MIDI will be fun, too.

    Problem #2

I found that many patterns don't loop seamlessly. There is an occasional 'stutter' at the end. That may not be a problem, depending on what else is going on at the end of the measure. Most would never notice it. However, I'll know it's there and it will probably bug me. It seemed like everything in original Riffler looped perfectly. I know I can change the length of a pattern, so I might just double it and then cut it in half with an extra little 'tail' that I can overlap. Problem solved!

There are no perfect apps. However, Piano Motifs by @azul3D_Apps is as close to perfection as I've ever seen!

  • I’m getting great results from this app… I started making Riffler Flow instances with the chords offset by a 5th:
    C - Am - F - G (pretty basic chord progression)
but I added another instance a 5th up with extension chords
    GM7 - Em9th - CM7 - DM7

This serves to build some extended chords in the Lydian Mode. I double each instance and dialed the parts up[ or down
to make a fuller sounding MIX and pointed everything at “PianoTeq 8” instances with the tone modified to be more like a
    Felt Pianos.

Yeah it’s great right? I haven’t tried pointing it other synths yet (though I did/do a lot with the original app) but I’m getting a lot of great results just modifying the internal engine.

Same here. I love the industrial, black, death, sludge, and doom presets of the first one. Not so much the generic rock. But overall I think I prefer this app. Much more my tempo.

  • Pretty cool update today!

  • This is a wonderful app. Ambient presets, coupled with heavy reverb (using Springs or Alteza) and Speakers, make for great post-rock drones that seem to go on forever. Wonderful.

Excellent tip… I didn’t want the attacks so I added Velvet Machine “Swarm” and it’s just wonderful. I have 3 instances running with “Create Riff” added on instances 2 and 3.

NOTE: with BPM below 40 the notes do NOT sound in the app.

Also pairing it with Jazz Drummer gets you into some mid west Emo-American Football type sounds. It’s a great app.

  • A short silent video showing Riffler flow and Riffler jamming together in endless mode.
I scrolled through all the settings in both Riffler apps to show how it was done.
Added Neosoul studio 2 (midi driven by Piano Motifs), iBassist, Hammerhead drums.
Helium is sequencing the mutes (or unmutes) of AUM, just for fun.

You can’t get a refund until the purchase goes through Apple’s billing system. That could take up to a week, in my experience. So if you can’t afford to spend the money, you should not make the purchase in the first place.

Good one, tnx. Does "endless" mode mean it mutates, or just that it loops?
