Who has escaped Black Friday without buying anything so far?
I have. But it’s only because I own too much.

Unfortunately not me. 30% off further pianoteq instruments I've been waiting to get / literally needed adding, meant that for a change the marketing gimmick of "save money, buy our shit" was actually going to be true, so that trigger got pulled. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
I have , only because my ipad broke. But my sister gifted me a new ipad which arrives today, so im ready to buy now!
I bought: Pro-R2, GeoShred and Naada I-II bundle, ERS-250, Megalit, WoodTroller, and GS-201.
It’s not over yet!
Not me. Reason 12 update, and Yonac Magellan 2.
I passed excessive and gratuitous a long time ago. Can't stop now!
I've been buying apple gift cards that have deals in preparation for buying a new iPad when the next set of new models come out.
Me 🙋🏽♂️. Although I may finally grab Infiltrator 2 before the deal is done. Nothing for iPad/ios. Cuz Logic.
Initially ordered TE KO2 but cancelled when I saw videos revealing how many simple features it’s missing on top of flimsy build that was obvious once I saw folks using it. Then, I got to spend an hour with a friend of mines unit. Hard pass.
I not only didn’t buy anything this year, I didn’t even look to see if there were any interesting sales. Mostly because I’m saving for some stupid expensive new speakers for the studio though. 😉
I'm such a responsible adult, I only bought like 5 or 6 (so far), which is nothing compared to last year.
Nothing on Black Friday. A crap ton on Sleepover Saturday.
Me
I didn’t get anything, thus confirming my forum time really was coming to a close
At the end of the day (and after about 10 months of experimenting) I took a lot of what I learned from ios/iPadOS and just moved it to desktop dRambo +Logic + hardware + desktop studio. I went in a little loop but I learned a lot , mostly from gravitas,(and also echoopera, and wim) so shout out to you outstanding gents for your time.
And with that said, thanks to Michael for ABF and for all the helpful discussions.
(But don’t worry this time, I don’t want to make the same mistake of deleting my account just in case I want to pop back in and out without people confusing my identity again lol)
This is the least I’ve spent in any Black Friday since starting iOS music. However im still getting a couple things. I really want the new Riffler but there’s no sale on that.
Ditto.
Well I bought the Leviathan Anthology from Black Octopus Sounds for less than $100 (from $300). But nothing specifically iOS related.
Haven't bought anything yet but I'm thinking about MagicDelay...
How much of that is because you've basically picked up everything you could possibly want or need previously. Certainly I feel that way. Still spent about $50 on just iOS this year and I won't have time for another month to really play with any of it.
After several hundred dollars spent (beyond my budget) the day before Black Friday I can finally say I haven't spent anything else.
Oooooh - what’s in the running?
I only picked up a couple of GSi apps on iOS. Timeverb-X and the Electrorchestra string machine thing. They are both excellent. Highly recommended.
But I don’t normally wait until Black Friday so I have already picked up most of what looked interesting to me…
Didn’t buy a thing. Don’t need a thing 😀
Seriously though, going through a period of musical malaise right now, so giving myself a bit of a break from apps for a bit. Can’t buy your way out of burnout (I’ve tried!)
Barefoot MicroMain45's.
Totally agree. Been there many times. But, you can try some things. Here are 4 off the top of my head:
Place some type of constraint on yourself: 1. Limited number of apps. Maybe just one app for all the sounds! 2. Make a time deadline: what can you make with a 30 minute timer running? The extra pressure can help sometimes. And if it doesn’t, then at least you made an attempt. 3. Or limit yourself to a specific style. Maybe even one you’ve never tried before but always kinda wanted to make.
Use a sample/loop. What? Gross! But really, just find one you think has potential. Then build at least 4 bars around it. Once you’ve got something you appreciate, you work to replace the sample/loop with some original yet similar work. Can use this idea with drums, melody, chord progression…or even a vocal sample…
Find a competition/challenge/contest online. There are a lot of producer groups on Discord and they often do low stakes weekly competitions. It depends on your style of music to find one that suits you.
Find a collaborator to make music with you. Making it social can be fun. It can be low stakes. And you both benefit from gained experience. Plus you might teach each other some new things.
Those are just a few ideas. There are definitely many more ways to end the block you’ve run into. Hope that gets you thinking. And best of luck.
I’m pretty sure that we’ve all been there. For me, putting too much pressure on myself has affected me many times. I’m not claiming to be an expert, but it hurts me to hear about someone who feels stuck like I have been so often in the past.
Thanks! I’ve used some of those tricks in the past, but it’s nice to be reminded. Cheers!
There was a time when I thought that Garage Band was enough to make a great song! The truth is, someone needs two strings in pitch, a skilled voice, and a poem to be able to split the mountain and bust the clouds. 🫣
My advice.
Don’t do drugs
Don’t do alcohol
Don’t eat too much
Money will be saved
Buy yourself joy for that money, buy awesome music apps of all kind.
@ErrkaPetti That is very sound advice. Focus on health, live in moderation, and appreciate art. Sounds good!
I haven’t really bought much lol especially compared to last year. I don’t remember what I spent but I know it was a lot.
So far this year I’ve gotten Shaper, Jazz Drummer, Knock, and NoLimits2. Shaper was the only one that didn’t necessarily offer anything “new” and was the least needed but I don’t regret it, it’s a very nice synth and the modulation implementation makes it stand out.
I pretty much have everything I want/need besides a couple IAPs here and there, so unless something new comes out that I feel like I must have, I’m not really gonna be buying anything.
Hardware wise I did buy an SSD that was on sale last night and I’m ordering a new midi controller as well since mine broke and I’ve been without one for probably 3-4 months now.
