  • Maybe try for the 9th Generation iPad. Here’s one from the Canadian website

    10.2-inch iPad Wi‑Fi 256GB - Silver

  • Ha you just now found that out? I thought that was old news by this point.

    Sadly true however.

  • To be honest I still don't understand why they can't put a head jack in. I'm used to a head phone dongle now but really, It continues to be a really stupid move.

  • Ha ha! I read the thread title and pictured you waking up to find that the headphone jack on your iPad existing iPad had been stolen in the night. Sounds like one of those nightmares you get when staying up way too late making music. 😂

  • I just recently bought a new iPad Pro M2 to replace my 2017 pro with headphone port.

It really isn’t as bad as I tought it would be. You buy a USB-C to audio dongle for every pair of headphones you own and problem solved. Maybe buy one that can charge at the same time.

    Yes, sadly.
I always watched if there is something I would prefer over my Lightning line-up of iPad 2, iPad Pro 9.7, iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen. and iPad Air 3.

I wanted some update, but at best without loosing Touch-ID and headphone jack, while also preferring a Home-Button and wishing for real stereo speakers in landscape mode.

The next generation will apparently loose Touch-Id and I really don't want to use Face-Id, so I was motivated to buy something before this happens.

I did not expect the headphone jack to also vanish from all models.

I did compare the iPad 9 to my Air 3 and don't feel that I need this - it features a A13 Bionic over my A12 Bionic, but otherwise the Air 3 seems as good or better.

And, the 9th does not even offer landscape stereo speakers for watching movies - just like the Air 3.

In this regard, the Air 4 would be better - still loosing headphone jack and Lightning (just for convenience of using the same cable for all devices), but adding A14 Bionic and true stereo speakers....

iPad 9 to keep the headphone jack or Air 4 to get some update to my Air 3 and get better speakers....

My hope is that the next Pro iPad will have an extra usb port and a headphone jack. But I’m not gonna hold my breath lol

I actually prefer Face ID though. The Touch ID doesn’t work on some iPad cases (including mine because the bevel is too high) so it would be a welcome addition for me.

    Thanks for the link!
But the Pro M2 does not have Touch-Id anymore and I simply cannot use Face-Id (see explanation above).

I don't use either. I just type in my 6 characters code.

    Hmmmmm.

I'm not sure that I could do this.
But then, I only constantly open the iPhone, while the iPad most of the time stays open for longer periods.
I should probably test this ... thanks for the idea!

Exactly it’s not like a phone that you unlock a hundred times a day.

  • Steve Jobs remember him? Rolling in his grave,no fuckung headphone Jack!

That scene always freaked me out. Not many movie special FX do, but that one did. 😬

Splendid to hear from you. <3 If you're willing to share what happened, definitely let us know in the "Other" section. I always dig hearing about and watching videos of your various adventures, endeavors, etc. If it's private however, there's no need to share anything. Cheers mate.

  • It can get frustrating but I do tend to end up using my audio interface most the time anyway for the better sound quality so I’ve noticed less and less lately. Even with that, it’s still really annoying at times when I just want to be lazy af and make some music in bed or on the couch and my battery is almost dead but my inspiration isn’t

I just don't like to give my face to Apple.
I already don't really like to give my fingerprints, but sure not my face.

Also, I want to have my devices in a position I like them to be - not angled in a way that they can see my face or need to be moved to get this.

And finally, there are different sorts of people: Some like it, when all lights in their houses are working automatically over movement detectors and close again after some time without any movements and so.

    I just HATE this.

I want to use a button to control the lights - I cannot stand anything automated in this regard, esp. as I may well just WANT to walk the floor without any light!

Or I get angry when sitting on the toilet and the computer thinks that it is time now to shut the light off again.
All of this is just a horror to me - to explain my background 😅

As someone already mentioned, and I believe Apple has confirmed multiple times, they never get your face scan. It’s encrypted per device. And you’d be surprised at how easy Face ID picks things up and the angles it works in. Also it works in almost pitch blackness.

And just as a heads up, you can use your iPad without any of that and just swipe to open it. If it never leaves you or your house, there’s no reason not to do that. Or you can use a pin and chose how often you have to use it. I have a 6 digit pin and my iPad locks after an hour of being closed. So with. That hour all I have to do is swipe up and it’s done. After an hour I enter a quick passcode and it’s ready to go. Lots of options to avoid Face ID.
